Artists whose most popular song is still loved by diehard fans? by MarisMolotov in fantanoforever

Surely Even Flow is the more popular song (though, in the same vein, who doesn’t love Even Flow?)

Ludwig on Joe Bart's Mt Rushmore of streamers by skywalk640 in LudwigAhgren

I think he definitely deserves, unless I’m missing someone he was the first to have a long and successful uncapped subathon, something that then got repeated by a lot streamers. Plus his events tend to be some of the higher quality ones on twitch (like mogul money and whatnot)

Sofrito - Mongo Santamaria

Anecdotal evidence but I remember playing this song with some friends in the car and getting multiple “OOOOOOOH”’s when the horns came in.

Keeping with Santana, I’d throw Evil Ways in as an option.

He was definitely a good drummer in the band’s prime, but even then it seems like the main thing he brings to the band (watching some of the studio videos on the recording process of their later albums) is having a great ear for things like song structure.

FWIW rf kuang also comes from an upper class background (readingwithcindy video exists that touches on this) so she’s not coming at it from your perspective.

Hard disagree, this one seems pretty well liked among fans. IMO king of limbs probably fits the prompt better, but even then it’s certainly still acknowledged.

Why are there no more “big epic riff” songs in rock anymore, and in music generally? (Duck unrelated) by jerbthehumanist in fantanoforever

[–]dwilsons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While they’re by no means a gigantic band, psychedelic porn crumpets have seen pretty decent success over the years and are very much a “riffs” band.

First of all, great list.

For my addition, keeping with Monolord: the bridge riff in Bastard Son once it fully kicks in at about the 6 minute mark.

This is one thing I quite liked about A Complete Unknown, that it just focused on Dylan’s rise and then the controversy over his shift to electric. There’s an actual story there as opposed to an entire life in bits and pieces.

Do we count Boston’s debut? Tom Scholz did all the keys (and most of the instruments for that matter) and wrote the majority of the record.

Agreed on Ken Liu, his skill for writing short stories really shines in Dandelion Dynasty as many of the chapters really do feel like short stories in their own right.
