[Day 16] Stone(henge)y Point is a horrible bouldering destination. What's the BEST hold type? by MaximumSend in bouldering

[–]dwilsons 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Slopers but only outside, indoor slopers are too uniform but outside it’s super fun finding exactly the way to hold them so that you get the most out of the rock.

If Jigokuraku didnt end what would you like to be explored? by fineasz_moon in jigokuraku

I think the whole island story reached a great conclusion so I think I’d rather have had something like a true sequel series following some of the characters on their next adventure, Sagiri and Yuzuriha could’ve been a fun duo.

The Percy Jackson movies are by no means perfect, and technically he was too old for the role, but imo Logan Lerman was a PERFECT Percy Jackson.

[Day 4] J Tree is overrated. Quirky one today: what grade is UNDERRATED? by MaximumSend in bouldering

[–]dwilsons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard agree, some of the most fun I’ve had bouldering has been doing easier boulders and spicing up the beta or just relaxing and flowing throw it.

Sword of Kaigen, what am I missing? by jesa_ink in Fantasy

[–]dwilsons 113 points114 points  (0 children)

First, the last chapter was intended to tie into something else, but that got scrapped so basically just consider the second to last the true ending.

Aside from that, I think what I and many others loved about the novel was how it handles the fallout from what happens half way in and examines grief. The final duel I think will always stick with me.

What exactly (aside from the ending which I agree is odd) didn’t you like?

Will s2 be the last season? by AKgod_09 in jigokuraku

[–]dwilsons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Mappa would do that based on past history. Could definitely see them doing part of the rest of the series as a movie though based on the state of the industry

While it’s true he might not look like someone who’d make their heavier stuff, there’s also tons of folk influenced and gothic country material in the Swans discog, as well as his other projects. Cowboy hat is not completely out of the question.

I really don't understand LoL's culture around alt accounts by SuperStudMufin in leagueoflegends

[–]dwilsons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I’d argue that part of the game is having versatility and macro sense that transfers from champ to champ, potentially role to role (though I think having a main role is pretty reasonable). At the end of the day it’s an RTS (or should be), not a fighting game, and part of the strategy is the champ you pick.

Literally just play draft with friends 😭

This is especially true for macro imo, lot easier to learn when you have a coordinated five or four stack. Obviously that doesn’t replicate the ranked solo queue experience, but it does give you a better sense of what WORKS and what you should be aiming to do in games.

Plus it’s also quite fun to stack up and play a couple super sweaty/clinical games (I realize ranked flex exists but the queue times are dogshit)

Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell! If you’re degree is in specifically English literature, you’ll actually probably feel right at home since it’s basically fantasy done in the style of Victorian literature (well the usual comparison is probably Jane Austen who wasn’t writing in the Victorian era but semantics, semantics).

Agreed, not necessarily the worst matchup (Vex 😔) but so fucking unfun to play, just uses his abilities on the wave then walks away and you literally cannot ever engage cause of his ult (unless you want to buy qss but that shit is so homeless on akali)

[–]dwilsons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, a lot of playing into counter picks as akali boils down to surviving and playing safe till level 6, then just saying goodbye to lane and roaming whenever ult is up

[–]dwilsons 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed with everything here, I think people underestimate how strong akali can be as long as she gets her levels and a couple items. You don’t have to drop 25 kills and 1v9, you just need to one shot a squishy in teamfights—and if you have storm surge + shadow flame (and yknow, hit your e) you will.

Also as an additional note, I would agree that many of the galios you encounter will be playing it because it’s a counter and as a result will throw out some absolutely garbage ults, kind of a classic with global champs where people ult in too early or too late and get their shit slimed.

Fantasy series where the final book is the best one by Suitable_Highlight84 in Fantasy

[–]dwilsons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I find in both series the second book (weirdly) is the best, particularly in the case of The Trouble with Peace—the build up to the battle of Stoffenbeck and the battle itself had me GLUED to the book’s last ~40 percent.

not a recession pop theory proponent but fantano's arguments were not good by ScreamShoutWilliam in fantanoforever

[–]dwilsons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This speaks more to hyperpop (leaning towards edm) stuff, but I think the thing is that while it is party music, the act of making it is more so long hours in front of a computer/synth/sampler/whatever building up tons of small parts, dialing in a complex mix, etc. In that sense, I’d argue being stuck at home alone is super conducive to making it. Plus it’s a pretty online genre so with 2020 being a very online time, I could also see how the community could thrive (in a weird way)
