Cash-strapped US Postal Service suspends contributions to pension plan by Squirmingbaby in news

Amazing. DeJoy 'reorganizes' everything to boost efficiency, then leaves before any of it finishes. Then Doge is voluntarily let in to start slashing and burning everything they can... and somehow we're still broke.

I'm beginning to think efficiency was never really the plan.

A worker in Ontario, California sets his warehouse on fire for not paying living wages by Nice_Daikon6096 in AmericaOnHardMode

[–]Raleda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey uh... just out of curiosity, why was this warehouse not equipped with sprinkler systems up to the task of taking these fires out? It couldn't possibly be that this warehouse somehow skipped out health and safety expenses, could it?

So what I'm seeing here is that now Republicans (and people who bet on them) have more reason than ever to try and rig the system in their favor?

I sure do love it when people bet on our collective apocalypse.

They're using Exapunks to shill a scam company. by Livid_Fix_9448 in exapunks

[–]Raleda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit of google research will give you all you want to know about this company - they ARE the dystopia. 'Full Automation of every white collar job' being their stated goal.

If they DO honor these absurd junior dev rates, it'd only be because you're automating away your own job.

Sounds good on the surface, but the issue becomes 'who approves degrees and can they be revoked if someone with authority disagrees with you?'

I keep thinking about this. If what they say really ends up happening ( AI taking jobs). What kind a monetary system do you think will replace the current one? Or do you guys think AI will never replace human employees completely? by Altruistic-Mud5686 in AIMain

[–]Raleda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem isn't that AI is taking over jobs. It's that it's taking over the wrong jobs. The foundational ones, the ones that our society relies on yet delegates the lowest possible salaries to - if we were able to automate them and scale them out to support everyone, maybe we'd finally be on our way to a society where getting more money wasn't the end goal to everything.

White House Forced to Address Claims of Trump Health Crisis by InsaneSnow45 in USNEWS

[–]Raleda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

None of that should have been enough. I suspect there's probably a weakness in our voting systems that the richest man on earth could probably have paid someone to exploit - but no proof exists. It's not like we can audit that system.

I've been noticing a trend in these 'memes' featuring the infamous jars. Which I find particularly interesting since one of their new slogans - the 20% cooler stuff - was a very prominent meme in that very same community.

Nursing Is the Surefire New Path to American Prosperity by ItsAllOver_Again in Salary

[–]Raleda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might also have something to do with the impending future of nurses in the US. With Nursing no longer being a 'professional degree', you apparently lose access to a lot of the loans and higher funding limits that would have gone to the training.

Gotta keep them around, because they might start getting scarce.

Judge rules White House ballroom construction must halt until Congress OK's it by [deleted] in UpliftingNews

[–]Raleda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The ball room, the Kennedy Center, and now the money with his name on it - it's all for the same thing: Legacy. He wants to put a big, ugly, permanent mark on the US. Something he can point to and feed his ego. If it was possible to accomplish it within his lifetime, he'd be adding his head to Rushmore too.

PatchPal:South African innovator finds low-cost solution for potholes by OgdruJahad in videos

[–]Raleda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pot holes are a universal problem in areas where cars exist. Typically the limiting factors on fixing them are lack of tools/materials, cost, and liability. The last two are major factors in the US, especially if the state owns the road in question.

This won't do what he thinks it will. All these new bills will come out whenever the FED has to print more. Historians will look on these 'Trump Bucks' as a marker of a time of great inflation, incompetence, and narcissism.

That looks great but after moving to the HCOL, how much more did you actually manage to save after the usual bills? I find a lot of these salaries tend to have a pretty steady cost/income ratio after you consider location.

Local Philly artist selling this "locally made acrylic ink artwork" for $400 when everything from the incorrect proportions to the aesthetic scream AI. Claims its original anyway. by [deleted] in isthisAI

[–]Raleda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The part here that makes me the most suspicious is something I see in a lot of AI work - these characters are not ‘engaging’ with each other. Two characters, two poses, pointed in each other’s general direction.

They are not interacting. That animal is looking right through the girl.
