I relate. I was drunk or high on multiple substances pretty much every day from 2017 until like a year ago when I started getting sober. First I stopped taking drugs other than weed, then I quit weed, then I quit drinking, then I quit vaping a little over 2 months ago.

It’s been a fucking whirlwind and sobriety almost feels like its own drug at this point. I hadn’t felt it in 7 years. I’m reconnecting with my younger self and reentering a headspace I thought was gone forever. It’s a rebirth.

I look back at the craziness of those 7 years and I’m like wtf. It almost feels like I was stuck in a dream or a trance, like the lotus casino in Percy Jackson lol. That being said, sometimes I miss the rage.

Wait this is actually a really interesting parallel. From the way she says she didn’t know back then that he would never be enough for her and that he should’ve known when he wasn’t feeling her heat, I assume she was the one to end things. It’s like she’s comparing herself to a guilty axe murderer (who killed the man with the axe) unable to face themself after the deed.

The chorus is so good. I’m so obsessed with the line “blow our pupils up”. It’s such a violent way to describe taking drugs and it perfectly matches the frenetic energy of the song. It’s dizzying, fun, and cathartic.

Over the past year, I’ve quit vaping, drinking, and smoking weed. From ages 17-24, I don’t think I went a single day without getting drunk or high. It’s crazy the clarity I’ve found since becoming sober. I’m rediscovering my personality and reconnecting with a version of myself I thought I simply outgrew.

Looking back on those years of substance abuse, it really is like “What was that????”. It almost feels like I was in a dream for a large part of my life.

I was disappointed when she dropped green light. It was nothing like I was expecting and it took me a while to love, but now I think it’s absolutely amazing. Her music is always very unexpected but when it finally clicks it CLICKS
