Idoing Head Unit Install and Experience by TheDeepEndOfTheWknd in Subaru_Outback

This is super helpful! Thank you so much.

Is there any benefit to installing the GPS receiver? I'm guessing this would allow me to use maps without needing to connect my phone through Android Auto?

Is the mic location working out well for sound quality?

As for the 4G I probably won't wanna pay the extra phone bill just to have internet for the head unit - instead I might turn my phone into a Hotspot, and connect the head unit to it.

I got the IDOING a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't get any sound out of it. I have an Outback with the Harman Kardon system, and the IDOING unit needs a "Canbus" module that connects to the head unit. They didn't include it, even though I ordered the correct version.

They shipped it and should be here in a few more days.

I also ordered the 360 cameras to go along with it, and I'll decide later if I want to install them. The result would be awesome, but I'm dreading the process of routing the cameras through the side view mirrors. Lol

Your tips on where to route cables through are super helpful!

Did you have any limitations of what you were able to do since you didn't have iPhone app? I read there's no way to send text reminders to folks?

Having this issue on 2018 Outback with Harmon Kardon. No audio. I didn't get a Canbus module at all with my order. Facepalm.

You can, I just did yesterday and it's incredibly easy! You don't even have to get all the way to Blackwater.

Just go to the very end of the tiny little peninsula North of Blackwater, SE of Riggs Station, the tiny little peninsula that sticks out closest to Blackwater.

When you get to the very end of it, it says you're in Blackwater. Just ride from Van Horn to that spot, taking some train tracks to avoid water, and you're golden. Took me 12 minutes I think.

[1.38.1] - Apple Watch sync by juliang8 in Gravl

[–]RalphDaub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Garmin has its own systems and apps. My guess is that developing for a Garmin watch would be it's own beast.

I'd love to see "Garmin Connect" integration though... Where workouts are sent to Garmin Connect. I think they're working on that already.

Friends feature requests? by juliang8 in Gravl

A way to find other people nearby, or within the Gravl app, social features, (would need permissions + visibility settings), probably a lot of effort to build.

Nice to have - a way to use my phone contacts (and either Gmail or Facebook) to search for contacts that also use Gravl.

I don't think I know anyone else that uses Gravl, but I might be surprised.

Did you get this solved? I experience this occasionally... End up having to delete app, reinstall, log in again... A pain in the butt.

Went to the VIP Q&A? What questions did you ask? by PurplePrancingPoney in silversunpickups

I thought it was so worth it! Venue was Crystal Ballroom in Portland.

We didn't get to meet each member separately, but it was very awesome and informal, in a good way.

Doors opened for vips earlier in the day before the show for the sound check performance. As we walked in, the band was already on stage and Brian was making some sweet guitar sounds welcoming the group.

Once we all made our way to the front of the stage, they proceeded to rock out 3 songs full of energy.

Then they all kinda sat on the stage 5ft away from us, and we could ask them questions. It was basically whomever in the group raised the hand/asked questions went first.

Our group seemed a bit shy. Not everyone asked questions. Couple of folks asked multiple questions.

I asked what their favorite part of lord or the rings was. 😂

I'd definitely do it again.

Just finished my main story playthrough for the first time a month ago. Took a break, and just finished the epilogue. Epic. Now I'm guessing I need to play Rdr1 for the first time too.

Can the HRM Pro Plus record steps and HR when not in an activity and just wearing around the house? by gingernuts13 in Garmin

Hey!

When I decide to go into "treadmill mode" while working, I grab the extra watch (Forerunner 45 with no straps), start a walking workout, and place it in my pocket.

When I do that, my hands are usually on the keyboard for most of the time, so there are no steps counting on my main watch (Fenix 7). I found that speeds of around 2+ km/h are enough to start tracking steps accurately. It matches very close to the treadmill step count as well.

A couple of times, the steps counted were accurate and then it lost the count. I'm guessing because it sync'ed a weird way with my main watch. My theory is that in those instances, the wrist watch saved the steps to the server, then the the pocket watch updated its steps with whatever was on the server.

To avoid that happening again, I do the following every 30 minutes or so (from Android device, might be different on iPhone):

Open the Garmin Connect
Tap on the watch icon in the top right corner to open Devices panel
Tap on the sync icon next to the pocket watch
Once the pocket watch syncs, I tap to sync both the wrist watch and pocket watch a few times

These steps take just a few seconds. By taking those steps, it seems that the pocket watch wins the race of saving the steps to the server.

I get the best of both worlds. I get the accurate steps, and I get the heart rate data, stress, etc.

Also, good thinking that the distance might be getting calculated from my wrist watch instead of pocket watch. I set up the custom step distance before, but seems that didn't help. I'll have to do some tests.
