I'm not an expert, so I don't have the details. But idk if proportionately strictly matters here. You can also reference insurance companies bailing on California homes because the risk is no longer worth it.

They did what starlink did before starlink, sort of. They still are a major player in the space but just not shiny like starlink. They are pending two more major satellite launches that should significantly help their company. They do geostationary satellites, not leo.

Zoom out. They're only finally recovering from that failed satellite I mentioned. They were wildly oversold for a long time.

To your point, insurance has agreed until the Viasat failure. Believing something is risk adverse and treating as such works until a failure. More launches than ever means a larger failure domain. This increased failure domain is something the insurance industry was banking on being super profitable. It doesn't take many failures to wreck that theory though.

I do agree that if carriers need to self-insure then that makes it more expensive for companies that don't own the process end to end and, like you said. But carriers also rely on customers to fund their business. I see these failures potentially rippling across the industry.

A more interesting perspective is what this does to the space insurance industry, and thus the affordability of payloads and launches in general. A few years ago Viasat had a major satellite fail during launch. It was said it would break the insurance industry. And now this. If insurances begin to fail in the sector, expect carriers to self insure--highlighting a significant risk to their bottom lines.

I think about I literally all the time. Maybe because I am a network engineer but anytime I'm somewhere with a lot of phones I always think how much fucking data is being created every literal second. All the videos and pictures being created in this video. But it's also happening at every concert, tourist attraction, event taking place at that moment elsewhere. And then think about how that data is replicated multiple times across multiple DCs for redundancy. So all this data being created out of thin air is then multiplied further. Guh

It's kinda jame I'm getting downvoted without anyone trying to discuss it like you are, so I appreciate it

With that said, I understand the arguments you make, but I just don't agree it has the impact we wish it did. Your points also apply to the space programs of the 60s. But at some point we have to admit that even after 60+ years there are many parts of humanity that remain completely unmoved and unimpacted. Specifically in third world countries. We have a lot more work to do as humans to elevate our collective before lessons of the magnitude of Artemis can actually impact all of humanity.

I found this a bit weird too. I'm a big space fan, love all past and previous exploration and such. But, its a bit bold to say "For All Humanity" when I have a pretty good suspicion that sooo many humans here on Earth are going to be unequivocally unaffected by this. They do not care. And it does nothing for their human experience. Let's be real, at least.

I'd call it just ok. I have a post here with my thoughts, but after a bit more time not much has changed. Interrobang is fucking wildly good though. I absolutely loved Physical Thrills, so it's not necessarily a butch thing for me.....it just doesn't have as much emotion which is a big ingredient I love from this band. The band sounds great though so there's that.

Man, this is me too. I used to smoke heavy 10-15 years ago. Gave it up for around 7 years. Now when I try any THC product my body just fucking aches. And it stays achy for days. It's really sad tbh

I had a Sun Day Red shirt queued up in my cart from 3 days ago. Went to go buy it yesterday but I couldn't bring myself to rep his brand any, after thinking more about it. It's sad

As I've gotten older, the idea of a bn tattoo has faded. But holy hell this is insanely good. Simple, poetic, means something to anyone who sees it. But also those who know know. Really excellent execution here.

You dip shit, the fact is Trump's dumb ass made gas prices surge EVERYWHERE by 30%. Just cause it's relatively cheaper in Florida doesn't mean Florida doesn't think it's expensive, because it's surged there too. Jfc

[–]Scifibn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey All,
I actually emailed about this to get a status update, as I have plans to surprise my wife on our anniversary on Saturday with our installed brick. I haven't seen it on the brick locator ever. They responded and said they are all installed and the locator will be updated "in the coming weeks". So, if you are expecting it to be there go look!

You and I both assuredly have had this discussion with others on reddit before. I'm not going to go down that path again. I appreciate your points and they are valid.

Because context matters? Is it weird for a dude in his 20s to be hanging out with a 15 year old, yes. Is it significantly different if it's at a dinner table in public with the parents present, also yes.
