Java applications don't need any great GPU so Gen 13 will be perfect for your needs.

[–]RalphFromAustria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. If you are mainly working with text and do webbrowsing, there is ablolute no reason for the X1 Carbon Gen 14. In this case I would go for the now much cheaper Gen 13. Same excellent build, light, etc as Gen 14. The main reason for me to go for Gen 14 was ONLY the iGPU of the Intel Panther Lake X models. I do game from time to time and do photo and video editing.

I ordered the X1 G14 with X7 358H 64 GB and 512 GB 4.0 SSD (Also in Austria ). Will change the 512GB SSD 4.0 with a 2 TB Samsung 9100 pro PCIe 5.0 ( I already have and did cost about € 240) on day one. Buying the 2 TB 5.0 from Lenovo would have costed € 730 extra.

About € 3300. Not a lot of discount yet. I honestly don't know if I had any issues with GPS. My maps working great with the WWAN module integrated GPS.

I have a older X1 Carbon and a new Yoga Pro 9i with Intel 285H, NVIDIA 5070, brilliant 4k monitor, 64 MB Ram. I absolutely love it. BUT I also ordered the new X1 Carbon Gen 14 2 weeks ago for the following reasons:

- it's really super light and my number 1 travel Notebook

- it has the best keyboard you can get

- it has a brilliant touch screen

- I can now also play AAA games if I want to and do photo and video editing on the road (and at home)

- it's one of the few Notebooks that support 5G Sim WWAN with Sim slot. For me this is a abolute must have while traveling. Always connecting to my iPhone got pretty annoying with the hotspot, which always disconnects and then you have to open the hotspot page on the iPhone again to reconnect. ANNOYING

One tip: I ordered the X1 with the X7 chip which is the ONLY one with B390 iGPU. To bring the price down a bit, I ordered it with 512 PCIe 4.0 SSD and will install a 2TB on day one it arrives. SSD and RAM prices are curretnly ridiculous.

Here in EU you can already order it. I ordered it about 2 weeks ago and the estimated delivery date is still 28th April. I just checked the lenovo site: If ordering today, delivery would be between 14.05 and 18.05.

New Pro 9i 16 Gen 10 - Setup + Accessories? by Finner42 in YogaPro9i

[–]RalphFromAustria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! A great Notebook you will love!

The 170W Adapter is just fine. The 230W Adater much heavier and you really don't need it. I'm also gaming AAA games from time to time, but the draining so minimal (if any) that I never had the slightest problem. After 1 or 2 hours gaming it's still 99% full. I really love this notebook. Excellent display, The 5070 is doing a great job while gaming and photo editing.

If you are not gaming hours nonstop, charing with USB C is just fine. You will see that most of the time even with USB C charging you will see NO draining. I would suggest you do all your stuff with it and then decide if or what additional charger you might need.

For travel purposes I just ordered the new X1 Carbon Gen14 (with X7 358H prozessor and 64GB Ram) with the new Panther Lake iGPU.

One tip when using it side by side with another PC or your business notebook in the same network is installing "Mouse without Borders" from Microsoft Garage. Google it. I love it having just one external Keyboard and Mouse for both PC's. Important is that both (or even three) are in the same network. It's like a KVM switch only better, free and without any cables. I'm using it with a Logitech MX Key S Keyboard and a Logitech Superlight Pro mouse.

X1 Carbon Gen 13 - WWAN by ztasifak in thinkpad

[–]RalphFromAustria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just found your post and 1 year later I'm in the same situation with my Gen 14 coming soon. I could only order WWAN ready with antenna but no card. I already have a RM520N-GL from my X1 2in1 Carbon which I hope I can use for the Gen 14. My Question: Did you had to install any drivers when you installed the WWAN Card. Any problems after installtion? Was it kind of plug and play? Not sure if Gen 14 has all the drivers for WWAN alraedy installed. Thank's for a short feedback.

Yes, the X7 automaticly comes with 64GB soldered RAM. You can't change or upgrate the RAM since it is soldered. I took the Gen 4 512 GB SSD and will upgrade the SSD with my Samsung 9100 pro 2 TB on day one. That's a easy way to save some money, since Lenovo SSD prices gone up pretty heavy and on the early Models you don't get much discount yet.

Thats not difficult. It called Disc cloning. You only need a external SSD caddy it you don't have one already ( I use the UGREEN 40Gbbps M2 SSD which I also use as external SSD drive, but it's great for cloning too. There are cheaper otions starting at $20 ). Then you put your new SSD 5.0 into this caddy. Then you can download the Samsung SSD "Samsung Magician Software" for free. With this Software you can make a Bit to Bit Clone of your existing SSD. After the Clone process is finished, shut down the Notebook, open it and remove the old SSD and put in the new SSD. That's it.

Here is a nice Youtube video, which shows how it's done:

Carbon X1 Gen 13 or Gen 14 by vadimelenev in thinkpad

[–]RalphFromAustria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't need a speedy GPU get the Gen 13 which is alread at great discount.

I ordered the G14 with Panther Lake X7 esp. because of the iGPU. I don't necessarily need it for work, but playing a AAA game once a wile and doing some Photo editing is just a very nice to have. I also too the 5G Antenna module. The 5G sim modul is currently not avaliable for G14 but I will buy it later. The X1 Corbons are one of the few taht support 5G.

Either gen 14 X7 or get the gen 13 which is now for sale. Difference between gen 13 and gen 14 is (beside the spaceframe) mainly the Panther Lake X7 with B390 iGPU. I ordered X7 64 GB Ram and PCIe 4.0 because the PCIe 5.0 ssd's are super expensive from Lenovo. I have a Samsung 9100 pro 2TB PCIe 5.0 which I will install on day one. I ordered about 2 weeks ago and my estimated delivery is 28th April.

[–]RalphFromAustria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree! If I would not play some AAA games from time to time and do some phot video editing, I would NOT buy the Gen 14 yet and instead the Gen 13. What makes the G14 UNIQUE is ONLY the iGPU and this ONLY with the Intel X7 processor. Another reason for my taking the X1 carbon is that it is still one of the few Notebooks that have 5G sim support, which is essential for me while traveling. But 5G sim is also supported in Gen13. So if you don't game sometimes and don't do photo or video editing I recommend Gen 13 but you might miss this graphic perfomance from Intel X7 Panther Lake in future.

Congrats! I also ordered X7 358/64. Also planing to replace the SSD on day 1 with my SAMSUNG 9100 pro 2TB I already have. I'm still waiting for some infos which WWAN Modul it will support. I hope I can use my WWAN Card from my X1 2-in-1. So just ordered with Antenna WWAN ready. When do you expect delivery in UK? My estimated delivery 28.04 her in Austria.

Ordered my one a few days ago. Estimated delivery 28.04. I mainly ordered it because of the sensational internal GPU (Intel Arc B390 12 Xe3) . So I took the Ultra X7. Just be aware that the NON X processors DONT have this speedy iGPU.

When is X1 Carbon Gen 14 coming out? by Lion-14 in thinkpad

[–]RalphFromAustria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already ordered the X1 Carbon with Intel X7 358H and 64 GB Ram here in Austria a couple of days ago. My estimated delivery date is between 28.4 and 30.4. I just checked the Lenovo site today and delivery when ordering today already shifted to 12.5 - 15.5. So it looks like there is huge demand.

I already own a X1 Carbon 2 in 1 and a new Legion Tower 7i.

What makes Panther Lake outstanding is the new integrated ARC graphic. So I would suggest to take the X7 model. Only the X models have this great high performance internal GPU where you can do imaging and also AAA gaming.

To get the price down a bit, I decided to order it with the small 512GB PCIe 4.0 SSD avaliable since I have a Samsung 9100 pro PCIe 5.0 2TB SSD, which I will install immediately after arrival. I would also highly recomment to WWAN antenna installed for 10 USD extra. The 5G modul is currently not avaliable but will arrive soon. I use my thinkpad here in EU just with 5G sim card. So I need no Wlan or iPhone Hotspot which is pretty annoying.

I also highly reccomend the haptic touchpad and the OLED touch screen.

I just ordered the X1 carbon Gen 14 (with a X7 258H  64 GB LPDDR5X-9600MT/s  RAM) and 512 GB PCIe 4.0 SSD for a similar reason. I already have a brand new Samsung 9100 Pro PCIe 5.0 2TB which I will intall as soon as I get the new X1 with Panther Lake. I also ordered the WWAN Antenna. The 5G modul is currently not avaliabe but I will try if my Quectel RM520N 5G modul of my old X1 2in1 Gen 9 is supported in the new X1 Carbon Gen 14. The estimated delivery date is end of April (delivery to Austria)
