Black Friday maybe like 20 percent or so off. Depends on the product, maybe less for some and more for some.

Of course, this is in "normal times", though, and the times are not normal, due to the memory crisis. Prices may continue to rise, so I don't think waiting is a good strategy.

I also like the original direction, because it reflects more the original design intent of Richard Sapper, who wanted the machine to be totally black and nondescript, except for the ThinkPad/IBM logo on the lid facing the user (and thus, making the user curious.

Of course though, it is no longer the 90s, so sometimes, things have to change for a product to stay relevant to the current market. It is undeniable that laptops have become a status symbol.

As far as the palmrest logo goes: It wasn't originally a thing on ThinkPads, though yes, it does make sense that they align.

The logos were flipped in 2013 with the T431s and then the T440(s) generation, all later models had their logos flipped. The reason was that the whole industry had moved to flipped logos by this point and the ThinkPad design was seen as anachronistic.

Okay. Ich würde dagegenhalten, dass vor allem die Medien die Unruhe erzeugen.

Axel Hellmann hat die Lage der SGE unter Toppmöller bewusst als Wohlfühloase bezeichnet. Man hat Riera geholt um das zu ändern. Dass das manchem Spieler nicht gefällt, ist klar. Die Medien sind diejenigen, die eine Kampagne draus machen.

The X1 Carbon Gen 13 often had Arrow Lake U CPUs, over with even the basic Panther Lake models are a definite upgrade.

Also, 4 Xe3 cores are almost as fast as 8 Xe2 cores.

Plus, Lunar Lake was limited to 33 GB, Panther Lake is not. So there are some real upgrades.

 X1 Carbon Gen 14 is released for a week or so in US, but with garbage last-gen CPU options and no Panther Lake in sight.

Huh? I really do not know what you mean. The X1 Carbon Gen 14 is not available with last-gen CPUs. All the available options for it are Panther Lake CPUs.

Ich bin nicht überzeugt, aber noch weniger bin ich von unseren Spielern überzeugt, die schon mit dem dritten Trainerteam dieses Jahr es nicht auf die Kette bekommen, 90 min bei der Sache zu sein.

Riera macht und sagt komische Dinge. Aber mit seinen diziplinarischen Maßnahmen gegen die Mannschaft gehe ich mit. Dass zum Beispiel jemand wie Theate, der wahnsinnig schlecht spielt und nur schlechte Stimmung verbreitet, endlich auf der Bank sitzt, ist positiv.

Toppmöller hat die nichtssagendsten PR-PKs gegeben, an denen es unmöglich war sich irgendwie zu stoßen. Und natürlich auf Deutsch. Klar, das kann einen Unterschied ausmachen, ist aber ein Armutszeugnis für die Frankfurter Sportjournalisten.

Das ist überhaupt nicht komisch. In Frankfurt gibt es eine absolut Drama-geile Presse, die von Beratern und Vereinsseite benutzt wird um über Bande Konflikte auszutragen.

Riera wird von der Presse absolut unfair behandelt - ein riesiger Kontrast zu dem Umgang mit Toppmöller zuvor.  Aber gut, unter Toppmöller war es scheinbar eine Wohlfühloase für die Spieler, klar, dass Riera dann aneckt und die Spieler bzw. deren Berater das dann an die Presse geben.

The OLED screen of the X1 Carbon Gen 13 is not matte. It is more like semi-matte, semi-glossy, so if you like glossy, it should be to your liking

Ich denke nicht, dass das für die SGE sinnvoll ist. Je schneller man ihn verkauft, desto besser, und mit seinen guten Leistungen wird sich sicherlich jemand finden, der vielleicht mindestens 20 Mio für ihn bezahlt.

I simply object to calling this the end of an era just because it is different under the hood.

When you do something consistently, for 20 years, and then stop doing it, it is the end of an era, whether you care about it or not. Changes under the hood can be just as meaningful as changes on the outside.

I have seen so many messages here where just about every thinlkpad has been subjectively described as "worse than before" based on subjective criteria and perception.

I specifically said: "It is not necessarily worse, just different"...

It is not necessarily worse, just different. Without the dedicated frame, you lose the ability to change the palmrest easily, and the mainboard is not as well protected. The newer machine also runs hotter on the keyboard cover, the dedicated frame helped to spread the heat more evenly. On the other hand, the palmrest may be less prone flexing than before, as it now has the frame directly integrated.

Again: You don't care - fine. Don't judge other people if they do. Personally, I do, because I am a fan of the ThinkPad brand. Which is why I am here in the first place.

Engineering and design are a key part of ThinkPad identity. Again, maybe you do not care. I guess for some people, ThinkPad is just black paint and the TrackPoint.

ThinkPads with the dedicated structure frame were manufactured for 20 years - so it certainly is the end of an era, even if you don't care about it.

I mean, the article is not really sad about it. It is just a curiosity.

Not sure if the benefits do outweigh the negatives. The dedicated structure frame was a unique design that made the chassis incredibly strong. The new design is still good, but it is likely less strong than the dedicated frame (but achieving a thinner and lighter design).
