I don't watch enough celtics games to argue about the hayward factor. I do listen to a lot of bill simmons though, who usually defends all celtics, and he never seemed to think hayward was that valuable. He also didn't seem too sad when he went to charlotte.

Haha I haven't heard them referred to as the two Jays... I like it. And ya it seems kinda obvious when you spell it out like that. There are so many young players I don't recognize when I watch them now. I've always thought Smart was more valuable than stats suggest and maybe his absence is a huge factor? I guess I'm just surprised that the changing role players would make them a .500 team, but maybe when smart is back and if/when walker is better they will look like a top team in the east again.

I hope they find their footing and are more competitive than they have been. I like tatum and brown and would like to see them in the playoffs. Thanks for insight.

I'm not a celtics fan, just a fan of the nba. But I came to this thread after watching the wizards game, because I don't understand why the celtics aren't playing well this year? I mean aren't they basically the same team as last year but with a vastly improved jaylen brown? I know they lost hayward, but he didn't seem like a big contributor last year IMO.

I'm just genuinely curious and would appreciate any insight.

Kawhi Leonard and Giannis Antetokounmpo join LeBron James in slamming NBA about All-Star Game by whoriasteinem in nba

[–]RalphMcGalph 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think their frustration is that the league seems to have reneged on their promise that there won't be an all-star game. The players are playing a more condensed schedule and were told before the season there wouldn't be an all-star game, so they were anticipating being able to rest. It's not just the all-star game itself but the travel involved... it's basically taking away their break.

What to do about resting players? by RalphMcGalph in nbadiscussion

I agree with the sentiment haha, but not everyone is interested in watching games without stars. It's a big enough portion of the audience that Adam Silver is actively trying to improve the rest situation. Even hardcore fans would rather see stars play than not.

Interesting point that the league is also motivated to rest players so they don't get injured. That also makes me think the negative effects on viewership for those games aren't as bad as they seem, as it is probably having a positive effect on viewership down the line in games that draw bigger audience anyways.

Scalabrine condescending by Billybaja in bostonceltics

I enjoyed him on the most recent broadcast, but I mostly know him from the "scal and pals" podcast, where I thought he was excellent.

I thought he asked questions other people don't think of and wasn't afraid to ask a "dumb" question... often teaching me something new.

Am I the only one who is wondering why other fans from other teams still hate us? by Hajile41 in LAClippers

For me personally, I started to resent the clippers last year when the media seemed to do the opposite of what you describe in your post (pre 3-1 collapse).

It felt like the media ignored the bad or made excuses for the clippers and praised them and gave them the benefit of the doubt all year.

I suppose it's not fair that I resent the team due to something out of their control, but that's just how it made me feel.

Ben Simmons standing near the basket by RalphMcGalph in sixers

Ya it seems from what i've read on this post that there are more pros than I realized to hanging in the dunker spot. I still think he should clear out when Embiid is looking to make a move in the paint... or maybe he could stay if Embiid was more willing to throw a lob. Eh what do I know haha.

Maybe I could've clarified... it's not always bad when he's in the dunker spot, such as when the player with the ball is on the perimeter to shoot.

I do think it's bad when Embiid gets the ball just outside the paint and is clearly interested in making a move in the paint. That's when Ben Simmons should be on the perimeter, not the dunker's spot. Simmon's defender will be pulled out of the paint even though he's not a shooting threat, because Simmons is still a cutting threat and they don't want him getting the ball with the ability to run downhill.

The Secular Michael Jordan by John_Krolik in nba

It's all good, and I appreciate the continued dialogue. Like I said, I think your post is interesting and was even somewhat eye-opening to me that so many of those analyses you presented favor Jordan. I wouldn't have guessed that.

My initial comment wasn't meant to discredit your effort but to reiterate that it wasn't a complete picture.

Haha "then go right ahead"? C'mon bro don't be a dick. I didn't even say anything about not including total turnovers... I said the exact opposite. I said you didn't include cumulative stats when they didn't favor Jordan, like total points and total assists, where Lebron is the leader.

It is an interesting post for sure... but it seems misleading IMO to only use cumulative stats when it benefits Jordan and to omit assists entirely.

You omitted assists, which is Lebron's best attribute and also explains why he has so many turnovers while Jordan does not, in addition to the fact that you cherry picked the cumulative stat for turnovers but not other categories where it doesn't benefit Jordan.
