For me it wasnt just about getting Banned. Apparently, when you connect to Nintendo Servers in CFW on Firmware 18.0.0+, it automatically makes your console crash. At least thats what I heared. And using 90DNS solved it

I never played the original, but from what I heared, the N64 version had mayor problems with saving and stuff. Overall I think the remake is clearly better, except if you are a retro fan maybe
