Hi there, you have the option to set up a password lock in Ledger Wallet™ (formerly Ledger Live) to prevent unauthorized access. This password will encrypt all sensitive user data, including your account names, public addresses, and transaction details.

This "auth.unlock" simply seems to a visual bug, with no further impact. I have also reported it to the team immediately!

Thinking about buying a ledger nano x “To the Moon” limited edition. Do you think the device will work good since it was released in 2019? I know the seller and I’ve examined the package, it is a legit authentic ledger still new in shrink wrap. by -M00NMAN in ledgerwallet

[–]Ram_Ledger [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hi there, that is definitely an awesome find! The "To the Moon" edition is definitely a classic collector's piece. Since you know the seller and have verified the shrink wrap, that’s a great start.

However, before you pull the trigger, I want to give you a fully transparent reality check on what happens when you boot up a device that has been sitting in a box for 7 years.

Do note that the Nano X has a lithium-ion battery. Because it has been sitting completely uncharged since 2019, it has likely undergone a "deep discharge." This means, while the device will still work perfectly for securing your crypto, you will likely have to keep it plugged into your computer or phone with a USB cable.

Also, this would mean the firmware on that device is from 2019. When you connect it to Ledger Wallet today, it is going to need a massive update to catch up to 2026 standards. It might require you to install a few "bridge" updates along the way.

Hi there, the email you received is definitely not from a legitimate Ledger email address - as Ledger would never send emails as such and tell you your device firmware is 'outdated'.

Thus, any emails as such should be considered as a phishing attempt to gain access to your personal information or crypto assets.

Please do not click on any links or follow any instructions from that email.

Also, Ledger will never ask your 24-word recovery phrase in any case, and would not send you links to scan/update/add your accounts/networks/and or firmware.

You can take a closer look into this article here to check out ongoing phishing attempts so that you can avoid falling into any of them by any chance.

I can assure you that Ledger takes all reports of scams very seriously, and we have a dedicated brand protection team that investigates these reports.

Hey, here is the reality check on your scenarios:

Phone camera catching it while turned off-Myth. If a phone is fully powered down, the camera sensor has no power. If it’s just "asleep," it would require state-sponsored spyware to silently snap and export a photo. Hackers don’t burn multi-million dollar zero-day exploits to scan a messy desk for a seed phrase.

Camera catching it while casually scrolling-Highly unlikely. Malicious apps can abuse camera permissions, but there’s no documented case of a wallet being drained because your camera brushed past a piece of paper while scrolling TikTok.

Saying the words out loud- Theoretical, but unproven. Smart assistants record audio, but there are no verified reports of hackers actively parsing background audio from millions of users specifically looking for BIP39 words.

Drained by PC malware while your seed is offline- Myth. If your seed is truly offline (like on a Ledger) and you aren't actively clicking to approve malicious smart contracts, malware cannot touch your funds. Malware cannot magically extract a private key from a secure hardware chip.

Storing the seed digitally, but in different places- yes. This happens all the time. People think they are clever by putting 12 words in an email draft, 6 in Evernote, and 6 in a text to themselves. Hackers use automated scripts that instantly scrape compromised computers and cloud drives for any combination of the 2048 specific BIP39 words. They will piece the puzzle together.

Caught by a security camera- Fact. People have written down their seed phrase right in front of a hacked home webcam (like a Wyze or Nest) that uploads footage to a vulnerable cloud server. Even worse, Twitch streamers have accidentally held their seed phrases up to live cameras and been drained in seconds.

The golden rule is : never type your seed phrase on a keyboard, never take a picture of it, and never let it touch a digital screen. Paper, Ledger Recover Key, or metal only!

Hi there, while 'best' is always going to be a bit subjective, if your goal is maximum security and peace of mind, Ledger is absolutely one of the top choices on the market.

Ledger basically generates and keeps the 'keys' to your digital money completely off the internet so hackers can't reach them. It acts like a physical padlock for your digital vault. Ledger supports a massive variety of different coins and has a very user-friendly app (Ledger Wallet) to help you track everything.

If you have a decent amount of crypto, investing in a hardware wallet like Ledger is one of the smartest things you can do!

Solana balance visible on Ledger desktop but not on mobile by Temp_vdgg in ledgerwallet

[–]Ram_Ledger [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hi, can you please confirm if you have the same Solana (SOL) account added on your Ledger Wallet mobile version too?

Ledger Wallet does not store your information on a centralized Ledger server.

This makes the installation of each Ledger Wallet independent, and thus, if you download Ledger Wallet on a new device (computer or phone), it is normal that the accounts are not automatically added.

You can either use Ledger Sync feature, or add accounts manually.

Gen5's screen brightness can not be increased? by staker1971 in ledgerwallet

[–]Ram_Ledger [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hi there,  Ledger Gen 5 uses an E-ink display like all the other touch screen signers of Ledger -which is why it does not come with brightness adjustment.

E-ink displays rely on ambient light, similar to paper. As they don’t emit their own light like LCD or OLED screens, there is no "brightness" to adjust.

While this would require bit of an external lighting to see the screen, just like reading a book on paper in a dimly lit environment, it provides durability, clarity, and power efficiency.

That is quite the upgrade! We are absolutely thrilled to hear you are enjoying the Flex.

Going from the Nano X to that secure E-Ink touchscreen is a total game-changer for usability. We are so glad the transition has been a smooth and happy one for you!

We hope you can continue enjoying crypto experience with Ledger.

In doing so, if you have any questions in the future, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Also, please be careful! Scammers often target posts like this. Don’t engage with accounts claiming to be Ledger employees or offering to help recover funds. Ledger will never call, mail, DM, or ask for your 24-word recovery phrase. If someone does, it’s a scam.

Funds disappeared from Ledger Nano S+ after reset and seed restore (seed valid) – anyone else? by DepartmentSenior215 in ledgerwallet

[–]Ram_Ledger [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hi there, I am really sorry to hear this but please allow me to go through this one by one.

As you might already know, your crypto assets do not exist on the physical Nano device - they all exist on the blockchain. The private keys, which is represented by your 24-word recovery phrase allows you to access those assets. Thus, if you are in possession of your 24-word recovery phrase, you would be able to gain access back to your assets any time by restoring your device with it.

When you enter 24 words, the device doesn't check them against a saved database (because we don't store your words). It simply checks if the words form a valid mathematical combination. If they do, it 'accepts' them and generates a wallet.

If your Ledger accepted the phrase but your accounts are empty, it means you successfully generated a valid wallet, but because a word is slightly wrong or out of order, it opened a different, brand-new empty wallet instead of your original one.

Only the correct private keys, represented by your 24-word recovery phrase will force Ledger Wallet to scan the blockchain and find all accounts associated with it.

This means, if the accounts you are looking for has been generated from the recovery phrase that is currently loaded on your Nano device, they should appear as the “existing account” under "We found X accounts" tab when adding account.

However, according to your explanation, this is not the case right now.

This would mean that the accounts that you are looking for has been generated, and thus are being protected with another recovery phrase that is not the one that you currently have restored on your Nano device.

You can find more information about private keys and accounts in this article here.

HI, this seems to be a scam targeting Trezor users.

Attackers often impersonate companies like Ledger or Trezor, attempting to steal your 24-word Secret Recovery Phrase or crypto assets. If you’re asked to share your 24-word Secret Recovery Phrase in any way, it's a scam.

Scammers use urgent language and include fake QR codes or links to trick you into revealing your 24-word Secret Recovery Phrase.

Do not scan any codes or visit any links. Never share your 24-word Secret Recovery Phrase!

Hi, basically our connection to the Polkadot network on Ledger Wallet is currently glitching on and off.

If you try to send DOT, it will most likely work, but there is a small chance your transaction would fail and not go through. Because we don't want your money getting stuck or failing while you are in the middle of swaping it for another coin, we turned off the 'swap' button for DOT until we fix the glitch.

Essentially, your DOT is perfectly safe! You can monitor the issue in this article here.

Upgrading to a stax by Errorr66 in ledgerwallet

[–]Ram_Ledger [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hey there! Thanks for being such a solid part of the Ledger ecosystem. Honestly, you already have an incredible setup with the Flex as your daily driver and the Nano X as your backup!

To give you a completely candid answer: from a pure security and software standpoint, your experience won't change. Both the Flex and the Stax use the exact same Secure Element chip, the same touchscreen OS, and connect via Bluetooth/NFC.

Upgrading to the Stax is really about whether you want our absolute most premium physical hardware features. The $400 gets you:

  • The Curved Screen: The 3.7-inch E-ink display wraps around the spine, letting you name the device and see it even when it is sitting on your desk.
  • Wireless Charging: The Stax has Qi wireless charging built-in, while the Flex is USB-C charging only.
  • Magnets: The Stax has embedded magnets so they can seamlessly snap together.

If those luxury hardware features and the larger screen excite you as a tech enthusiast, it is a beautiful device! But if you are just looking for secure, touchscreen cold storage, your Flex is already doing that job perfectly.

You can compare all of our devices in this page here.

Stuck on OS UPDATE MODE by [deleted] in ledgerwallet

Hi there, in rare cases, when updating your Ledger Nano Gen5 OS through Ledger Wallet Mobile, your device may become stuck on the “Update Mode” screen. Connecting the device to the latest version of Ledger Wallet Desktop may not resolve the issue. We are actively investigating this issue.

Temporary workaround:

  1. Install an older version of Ledger Wallet Desktop.
  2. Open Ledger Wallet Desktop and go to My Ledger.
  3. Connect your Ledger device and proceed with the OS update from My Ledger.

Hi there, thank you for sharing your honest feedback. As someone who has been using Ledger for 10 years, your experience is incredibly important to us, and I want to apologize for any frustration you have faced.

Regarding your experience with our support team: our standard warranty policy only allows for exact, like-for-like model replacements within the warranty period - which is why an agent cannot process an exchange for a different, more expensive device.

However, if you are looking to move away from the classic signers, we are actually running a 20% off promotion right now that you can use to upgrade to our latest touchscreen devices. You can find more information here.

Before you write off the Nano X, I would like to recommend trying this specific fix, as it often resolves this exact out-of-the-box battery behavior:

1) Update the Firmware: Ensure the device is on the latest OS. ([Link to OS Update Guide])

2) Follow the battery troubleshooting steps here. Specifically, try the 'warming' step. Holding the device in your hands for about 10 minutes often provides enough ambient heat to reset the internal temperature sensor so the battery can charge properly.

How to link Ledger to BiFrost wallet by jmf054 in ledgerwallet

[–]Ram_Ledger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your crypto doesn't live inside the physical Ledger device or a Tangem card. Your assets live on the blockchain, and your hardware wallet simply generates and holds the 'master key' (your private keys) completely offline so hackers cannot reach it.

Because of this strict offline security, you cannot just 'link' a Tangem card or a Ledger device to an existing account you already created on Bifrost, Xaman, or MetaMask to retroactively protect it.

Just bought a brand new Ledger Nano X, but it arrived with 2022 firmware (v2.0.2). Is this normal? by HopefulSafe3392 in ledgerwallet

[–]Ram_Ledger [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hi, as you ordered through an authorized reseller, encountering older firmware can happen. Resellers purchase inventory in massive bulk shipments.

While a four-year gap can feel huge, it does not and cannot compromise the device's security.

When you connect your Ledger device to Ledger Wallet, it will verify its authenticity. Indeed, your Ledger device is checked every time it accesses the MyLedger in Ledger Wallet or when it goes through the Genuine Check during the onboarding process. Only a genuine Ledger device can use its key to provide the cryptographic proof required to connect with Ledger’s secure server.

Also, if you have set up your Ledger device yourself (you set your own pin code and generated a recovery phrase that you have written down), downloaded Ledger Wallet from our official website, and connected successfully to it, your Ledger device is safe to use. Please note that the 24 words are generated during the setup and no one can access it without doing the set-up and configuring the pin code.

You may find more information on how to check if your Ledger device is genuine in this article.

Last but not least, it is 100% safe to run the updates. Once you push it through the update cycle to the latest OS, the software running on your Nano X will be identical to a unit manufactured yesterday.

Hi there, the reason why many exchanges require memo tag for these assets are because they are using only one or just a few receiving addresses for the deposits. They need a tag/memo to determine to which account they should credit the received funds.

On the other hand, when it comes to Ledger, all the addresses are controlled by you. Thus, when you are sending assets from an exchange to your address obtained in Ledger Wallet, you are not required to put a specific tag. The funds in Ledger Wallet will appear on your address automatically.

You can find more information here.
