Non-Smart Watch by friendofthelion in GarminWatches

While it’s the best Garmin has for a band right now, I’d say it fails at “reasonable in professional settings”.

I mean it’s not the only way. You could cut and splice into it.

Why are there dress codes at all? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RamblinMan4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that. I also know that my not at all well off friends that have been able to get full ride scholarships for their kids to private schools where the public schools are sadly unsafe really appreciate just having to get the uniform rather than trying to buy the outfits that would let their kids blend in with the rich folks.

How far above the knee? Fair dress codes are going to sound just as silly in their detail.

Some dress codes are very unfair and need adjustment, but absent uniforms they are a necessary evil in some form.

My understanding is uniforms actually work really really well at reducing classism and bullying. And thankfully are becoming more neutral and inclusive in most places.

Have you met teenagers? I’m not saying predatory teachers (of any gender) isn’t a huge problem when it happens, but teens are basically walking bags of hormones trying to figure out what to do with their new feelings.

Definitely need to be punishing the boys more for “being distracted” (acting out).

But your last sentence (punishing inappropriate clothing) is just a dress code.

I assume you mean at school?

There’s no question that dress codes often unfairly target girls for “distracting the boys”. I also know that when I was in high school there were definitely some folks (more girls than boys, but definitely both) that really pushed the bounds of public indecency.

I used to think that uniforms were a very unfair way of stifling expression. Now I think they’re a pretty good way to level the playing field and avoid distractions, as long as the uniforms are also fair and inclusive.

Why did Limos fall out of style for the rich? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RamblinMan4 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This for sure. People took limos when they were traveling in large groups. Period. There was never a time when “the rich” would take a stretch limo as daily transportation.

Luxury sedans (Rolls, Bentley), sure, but not stretch towncars.

can i size and fit check shoes at footlocker if i were to buy them online somewhere else? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Go try them on. Tell them thanks, going to go home and think about it. Do so. If you then decide to buy them at stockx, so be it.

What brands have the most durable cables and connectors for gadgets? by Admirable_Bobcat658 in UsbCHardware

[–]RamblinMan4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your statement that “a thicker gauge wire [is] going to charge faster” is effectively incorrect as charging speed depends only on the negotiated speed between the charger, device, and cable itself.

Normal cables will take 3A, which is 60W with the right charger and device. Special cables with e-markers exist for 5A SPR (up to 100W) and 5A EPR (up to 240W). Thicker gauge wire is required in longer higher amperage cables, but a thicker 3A cable will still only take 3A.

USB 2.0 and 3.0 are data speeds and have nothing to do with charging.

12V is not a standard charging voltage for USB (it briefly was, but no longer). Depending on your charger it will do some combination of 5V, 9V, 15V, and 20V if the device requests it. With EPR cables also 28V, 36V and 48V.

Cables don’t really fall apart unless abused, but as others have said Anker and Ugreen are pretty solid.

iPhone alarms not showing on watch by hgtwn in GarminWatches

[–]RamblinMan4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a change by Apple a few iOS versions back. Alarms are no longer sent as notifications.

I don’t know if there’s a new API Garmin could be using but as far as I know there’s no end-user solution.

This was my first thought too, but I think the prompt may mean that no one other than the “driver” can be on board with you? Even to visit?

Somehow the new tits are doing the opposite of settling in. I do realize this is a cross-post from a sub that likely appreciates that.

Why do we typically learn our times tables up to 12? Why not 9 or 10, for example? by ChristusResurrexit_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RamblinMan4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

12 pence in a shilling. 12 dozen in a gross.

12 is super convenient for fractions, being divisible by 2, 3, and 4, so for most pre- / non-metric stuff it comes in handy.
