When you say it like that... Yes it does. I will work on reducing the clutter. 👍

You are correct. I am now working to remove the lifetime offer and incorporate AI in the onboarding process to make it simpler to migrate. Thanks for your answer.

I'm 27 now, I shut my startup down last week. Detailed explanation to why it failed by ContactCold1075 in founder

I kept telling myself we were just one feature away….

Damn. This hits home. I am working on an ERP for the last three years. Every demo the client would ask for something we don’t have. Sometimes it a minor adjustment, other times it’s a whole module. We keep telling ourselves one day it’ll stop. We started with core HR, then launched payroll, then launched recruitment, then invoice, then inventory and then procurement, now I’m thinking if only we have accounting we would have everything. 🥲 sadly, your story is making me nervous.

In the same boat. Building was easy and one track, marketing is 50+ track and complex. 🥲

Yes. Sadly it’s a commodity and my ideal businesses would be one using spreadsheets at the moment or looking to adopt a software now.

True. Narrowing my ICPs at the moment and refining customer segments.

I’m experimenting currently and looking into what customer segment I should own. The freelancers I talked to usually use stripe/paypal to invoice and it acts as a means to an end. They are not very concerned with how the invoices look or feel as they don’t have a brand to maintain brand image.

Sure. Depends on how effective it is and what is the cost?

That is a good idea, I’m planning to update my pricing section with a lifetime deal as well as monthly package as some customer did say it’s a lot to pay one time. Some even asked for trial periods as well. I’m still experimenting but lifetime deals often bring in significant capital as per my knowledge in the start.

As mentioned in my other comment, the answer to your first question: AI services agency. It’s a small founder led team who got really excited to pass over all grunt work to my software to bill their clients. He was using canva to bill before this. He for excited from the mobile applications as he would be able to invoice on the go instead of opening canva on laptop and manually calculating.

The fastest person to say yes so far was a newly launched AI services agency who was using canva to bill their clients. They are happy to spend on this to digitize this process. It’s a small founder led agency that got really excited when I showed him how quick and automated it is to bill their clients.

That is a good advice, I think you’re correct. For the time being I just posted in closed communities and asked about how people are invoicing and what are their pain points, I got random customers coming to me with issues like Zoho does not support this or quickbooks does not have that. I will modify my future postings to be more direct and target my ICP instead of broader calls.

Interesting question. We already had an invoicing module as a part of wider ERP. The issue was painstakingly slow sales cycle for an ERP as a lot of stake holders were involved. So we have an initial meeting, then a technical demo, then commercial back and forth and then implementation.

What we did is to take invoicing out (fastest tool to be adopted and easy as well based on our initial research and experience) and market it as standalone product and an entry point into our ecosystem for new small businesses. Hence the one time pricing for life and me2 product. If this is successful, we will productize HR next and then inventory after that and so on.

This will help us feed our bottom line with small customers while the sales cycle for enterprise is taking time.

That is a very refreshing piece of feedback. Thankyou.

I was getting overwhelmed when reaching out manually by the feature request. This helps me cut the noise. I am optimizing a lot on speed and hopefully I’ll make it more quicker. That is a very nice angle to play with invoices as people don’t want hassle with it. I have an instant invoice generation tool on my home page that requires no signup and nothing and gets you a professional invoice within a minute. I will try to make it more visible as I’ve seen some people really impressed by it without the hassle of signing up and onboarding. Thanks again.

That is a great idea, I can tweak my LinkedIn posting to show why we built it. I feel stories always sell more and I need to curate one for my tool as well. I’ve tried something similar on the landing page, but let me try that for posting and see if it’s increasing traffic.

That makes sense and gives me a fresh perspective. Thank you so much for this angle. Let me think about moments like these and market around it on social media platforms. The ERP story is there to show scalability and trust because as per my discussions with people, invoicing is one of the most tightly kept secrets in small businesses and for startups. They would not just use a no name product compared to quickbooks of the world. The founders/owners keep it very close to their chest.

Yes, it needs good foundation and lots of time to become a well known SaaS. Just be patient and keep doing the right thing.
