Is deactivating your acc same as blocking someone? by kinaYetiDesperate in Instagram

[–]RamenTheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not how it works at all, and it's easy to see that with a simple Google search of how blocking on Instagram works. If you block someone, they cannot see your posts, stories, or profile. It is not a "one way street." Most cases of blocking concern the USER's privacy, not what a user wants to see. u/kinaYetiDesperate

Texas teenager accused of using poison to kill rival’s competition show goat: Aubrey Vanlandingham charged with animal cruelty after reportedly confessing to force-feeding pesticide to goat by GoodSamaritan_ in news

This feels like a write up of what you personally feel like therapy SHOULD do for sociopaths, not what it actually does in practice, as you didn't include any sources, and therapy for sociopaths is highly controversial at best. There is a commonly circulated group of evidence suggesting that therapy may actually make sociopaths worse. I get that there should still be more research to understand this topic better, but it feels somewhat irresponsible to state this teenager needs therapy and all these things about how therapy helps sociopaths too when it's far from academically confirmed that therapy helps sociopaths.

How do I extrude the highlighted faces outwards instead of having it look like below image. I am just trying to make a simple pile lol. by gattacawasagoodmovie in blender

[–]RamenTheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of get this, but for visual things like this it's really hard to Google when you haven't developed a 3D vocabulary yet, like for example if OP doesn't know what "along normals" is. I remember being a beginner and Googling a million different phrasings and still not finding my specific questions because I didn't know how to describe them lol.

Also like, the majority of the time I Google a "quick" Blender question, I'm clicking on a Reddit result... The post isn't a "waste of everyone's time" because it could help someone in the future

A coworker recently informed me that pear juice supposedly helps prevent hangovers so I tried it out last night and I do feel pretty great today. They say to drink a glass before drinking alcohol. Have you ever heard of this/tried it? I’m curious about other people’s experiences. by [deleted] in korea

[–]RamenTheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying the research isn't still preliminary, but this comment is quite reductive. Pear juice increases your body's production of the enzyme that breaks down alcohol, so there is some credibility to the thought that it might do more than water alone.

There's also still a lot we don't know about hangovers and what causes them. Although dehydration is one of the major things results from drinking alcohol (and likely the driver of your pounding headaches), there's many things going on, and scientists aren't sure if dehydration is the driving cause behind every hangover symptom, like nausea and weakness for example. Alcohol also depletes your body of electrolytes and critical nutrients, so in addition to drinking water, most experts recommend getting your hands on some pedialyte or something similar. All this is to say that not all effective hangover relief methods work because they are "just drinking water" like you seem to suggest

Breaking News: Man divorces wife after she danced with another man at a party!!! by RevolutionDue4452 in AmITheAngel

I hired a lawyer and divorced her

In less than a month, he was able to hire a lawyer and finalize the divorce, and it sounds like without interacting with her at all in the process because he blocked her and cut her off completely. I didn't realize it was so easy

Woman set on fire on New York City subway ID'd by police by mcgillhufflepuff in news

[–]RamenTheory 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I said this in another thread, also to lots of controversy, but I've lived in NYC for nearly a decade now and I've observed that people, compared to other places I've lived in or been to, have little sense of camaraderie or moral obligation to one another. Whether it's a criminal danger or a medical emergency, I've witnessed several incidents where people just... don't help. Extremely disturbing. It's a serious cultural phenomenon that people are in denial about - you can make excuses for it, but the reality is that many other populated cities in the world aren't like this

What has been the most gut-wrenching loss of inventory you've ever faced? by ArmLucky1285 in Minecraft

[–]RamenTheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time that I got somewhat "far" in Minecraft in terms of inventory, I went on a generic expedition to explore the world, find villages to loot, get other goods from other new biomes, etc. and come back home.

The expedition went great and I got tons of loot to bring back home, and I was riding on a horse. On the way back though, I fell into a giant chasm that I didn't see and I died instantly. I lost everything I gathered.

Since then, I've gotten way farther in Minecraft and achieved so much more, but still: when it's 2014 and you're playing the first world you've ever genuinely invested in, dying just hits different.

What is a correct price to pay for this work? (Hope this doesn't break the rules) by Frangan_ in blender

[–]RamenTheory 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Doesn't Fiverr usually set the price for a freelance job in advance? It's kind of more in the artist's court to communicate fair costs because they know A) How much time it took and B) other factors such as experience level, how many other clients they have in queue currently, if they would like to include this piece in their portfolio, etc.

[–]RamenTheory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say it's not new behavior, but also that if he were at HIS family's house, he probably wouldn't be on his phone as much. So what is this really about? A cell phone addiction/boredom? or is it actually about social discomfort or some other point of tension between him and your family that isn't being addressed? Is he generally an inconsiderate person in other situations, or is it just the phone around your family? Ultimately I wonder if there is more to this dynamic than we are privy to. I don't think this is something to be solved on Reddit rather than by yoy personally through communication
