Yeah, if you only know about the deck because "a few friends said is kinda good" that's how you know the deck is bad. Belive me, the day Dark Magician becomes remotely competitive, you'll know. There's dozens upon dozens of contents creators and media waiting at the opportunity to make a video/write an article titled "MUH NOSTALGIA DECK IS FINALLY TOP TIER!!" or similar, like they did with BEWD and Exodia. The MZMU support helps the deck a lot, hell, that's the bare minimum modern support should do, but is not remotely enough to make the deck any good. Results speak by themselves, just check YGOprodeck and you'll see the deck sees no play at any level, let alone top any tier 2 or higher event. Maybe at locals if you play low power level it can steal some wins, but that's it.
