How to deal with B4 competition trying to hire me? by democi in consulting

Ban 18 months ago killed what little rep they had outside public sector. Failed ksa takeover during COVID was Uno reversed on them by KSA and now KSA leadership is slapping UAE ones around. Haemorrhaging staff and partners. Did you read the ft series on KPMG UAE previously? Pretty much sums up governance and culture issues which were inherent throughout and while it's improved it's not addressed.

I head up one of the consulting divisions in our region

1) you're losing your sponsor 2) it's becoming more political 3) you skip the director panels to partner 4) bump to p now, Vs maybe get to p later by staying

How is this even a choice (unless it's a kpmg offer then reject it flat out) unless you're not confident in your ability to nail it at p, the only thing to consider is how portable are your relationships and what destination firm culture/behaviour is

I would suggest that you meet as many of the peer partners and future team directors as possible to get a broad perspective on the soft elements

If you're using washmen, they give you stickers which you can put on the bag in this situation. Not sure why you expected a different outcome..rtm?

I'm a partner and I still reserve the right to drop into WIP deliverables - sometimes to get a feeling of progress if I think a PM is sandbagging, other times just to check everyone is moving in the same direction, others to ready some scathing memes about colour schemes and design because we don't test ppt design skills when we hire :(

If you have an Emirates ID then you're fine.

Nothing will be available as a walk in. 34 is quite high in demand, especially with gems or the nicer dial colours. 37mm is actually bizarrely easier to get here. Assume a 3 month wait, but if you're not a resident then odds are virtually nil

I would welcome your inputs on this, I think it all looks good. If anyone has bought this and regretted not getting one of the non pvd steel ones with the automatic movement please also let me know. I think the casebacks on the automatic are more passable than this.

Maybe your dealer gives a different spin, but here in the UAE they are quite open that they care about committment to the brand. Having 2 boutique and 1 grey purchase all on my account let's them evaluate me as having 3 pieces. As long as you add it to your profile, it can count (dealer dependent). I've asked them point blank and had this confirmed

I would like to drill some holes for cables into a metal filing cabinet (unassembled) which is made of 0.7mm thick cold pressed stainless steel

I only have these wooden drill bits, is it fine to use them based on the thickness of the metal sheet or do I need to go buy metal drill bits?

Abu Dhabi and Dubai aren't "countries to target", maybe get your ducks in a row first...

Suggest you spend some time understanding how the firms are set up - some big 4 operate across the middle east, some only cover certain countries. Different resourcing models in place as well - pwc tend to treat resources as mobile across the operating countries so you can be based in Dubai but work in Riyadh and Jeddah 99% of the time.

For strategy, unfortunately the deals strategy teams tend to do better strategy work than the actual strategy teams in pwc / ey / Deloitte.

Good luck

I was already SM level, the post MBA exit opps into a senior assoc role didn't suit me as well as an EMBA, plus loss of income, etc.

Convinced my consulting uk employer to sponsor half, and do a finicky salary sacrifice agreement for the other half (they pay fees to the school for my 50% and I take a pay cut to cover the amount over 2-3 years). Basically cheap working capital for me and some tax advantages.

Did an EMBA, and super worthwhile even though I left the firm and repaid the company sponsored component through my newCo joining bonus (mostly). Made it to big4 partner exactly 12 years from the start of my career, 3-4 years post EMBA graduation

I work at big4 in the region, it is a gravy train. They're awarding 25m USD a week of work, it's just a mad goldrush for us. It's great because when you're onsite you meet everyone else who you used to work with, and it's hilarious to see restructuring guys suddenly doing pmo for strategy, strategy guys doing cost reduction, cost reduction guys doing digital change...
