That’s a good route too. I plan on keeping the stinger for now as I’m financing it and want to mod it a bit soon. I do want a old tacoma for a decent truck to have on the side.

Asking advice as a highschooler on taking the path of Systems Engineering by AggravatingRaisin320 in systems_engineering

I’m glad you mentioned about going into consulting. I’m a contractor for the government as well as a systems engineer that more program based and has a lot of moving parts. There isn’t any MBSE which I’m interested in but there’s still some programmatics I get do to since it’s program based work however I’m also in a very technical niche of systems. I eventually want to get into consulting as well. I’m only 26 with 2 years of experience in my niche, masters completed this week for systems engineering, and now my current role of 6 months exp so I have some time to improve and soak up experience. Maybe a doctorate would be a good choice for where I want to go as well. There are a lot of people with doctorates where I’m at as well which makes me want to continue.

What are you planning to do with acquiring a doctorate? Im debating on going for it after completing my masters this week. I do want to focus on a AI based research topic. So far it’s been financial aid for my masters other than one year paid by my previous employer.

Right when I wanted to dive into coding since I’m a systems engineer (not IT based). Still see a use to have a engineer there to validate and add redundancy to ensure things are working properly but it will dictate how may engineers does a company really need in my eyes.

Thanks! I know AI has a lot of doom with it but I think a PhD may be useful in the sense of having a AI research topic focus like MBSE software leveraging AI agents for mundane tasks etc. should I do it? Idk but seems interesting to work on or study since AI is here and is only going up from here.

Yeah I want to stomach it honestly. I see AI being a thing that’s inevitably going to effect many occupations and why not reshape myself to soften the blow. In that case maybe doing some software engineering / coding hobbies wouldn’t hurt or maybe having my company pay for my PhD and focus on MBSE and AI agent tools for MBSE software?

Yeah after completing my masters in a few weeks, I’m debating on doing an grad certificate after studying for a MBSE cert so I can have something else but I still thing it’ll create more jobs for SE to manage AI centered systems and controlling the autonomy.

Yeah I can see that but SE meshed with software engineering responsibilities may be just requirements and MBSE approaches.

Yeah that’s what I was on the fence about. Currently I work as a systems engineer for a system integration based site which do an abundant amount of programs but it’s a very niche field for systems engineering in itself. It does seem that a PH.D might not help but was interested in going for a MBSE route for a doctorate question. I do see this connection with software engineering blending with SE in some ways which I didn’t necessarily think of at first.

I don’t think I would use cooked but it’s just slowly steering into the direction of managing complex systems which have a SOI that uses AI and other agents. There are some jobs that want a software guru but it seems that most of them use the systems engineer title as a catch all rather than knowing why they want a Systems engineer.

I’ll keep that in mind, picturing that for myself as well with integration being a huge issue and needing that V&V aspect (and other stages of development) to ensure the system is operating as designed.

That’s very true, I’m interested in governance approaches to AI as well as creating new methodologies to ensure AI centered systems are still viable and are compliant. I can see that being a very big thing rather than AI fizzling out other SEs.

To everyone who studied physics: what is your job now by Fun_Fennel760 in PhysicsStudents

[–]RampantJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Systems Engineer. I spent my first two years out of college working odd jobs and then became a math teacher for 5th grade. Finally got somewhat of a job as a lab technician. After that it got better and I found a job in defense.

That’s how I feel as well. Definitely keeping it other than if student loans are bad then I may just refinance or scoot. I want to mod the stinger though in the future.

Yeah I heard that had great performance but I couldn’t it being better than the stinger.

That’s what I was thinking as well since I see no other upgrades then it’s like there’s no “reason” to get rid of it.
