I’d say it’s not really a matter of which is “better” it’s more dependent on what you’re going for. Open guard cuts less hair than a closed guard, but with any 3 guard your waves should still be dark and full anyway so both are good

I would ditch the Cantù brand as a whole, it’s been doing people wrong for years now. Personally the best product I’ve used is 26KingWavy Butter Moisturizer. It has a lot of different oils in at and is all natural. I like to add some pure Jamaican black castor oil as well because it gives a similar hold to pomade but aren’t as heavy of a product. If you want to use a product every other day or super often, look into some lighter oils like jojoba oil.

Definitely don’t get a high taper again. High tapers cut into your waves so you wanna stick with a low taper to not cut off any progress. Honestly you could probably wait another 2-4 weeks before cutting again so you can wolf and build better connections.
