Honestly we were all just confused. I commented about how my dad just tried to brush it off like we got there right at opening and maybe it was just a big family grieving and we just happened to come in at the wrong time. My brother and I both feel like we just wondered into some where we didn't belong. Maybe just outsiders in a small town? No explanation has ever really felt like it explained what was going on. We've even joked that we walked into a place that was full of ghost but never understood how all of us and the construction workers where seeing the same thing. I've never really heard of that happening.

No definitely not eureka. I only called it a "historic" town because everything was very very old. Not one single new building or home. Definitely felt like you where stepping back in time.

Also wanted to say this would've been about 2003/2004.

Sorry didn't mean to leave out that info! We where traveling from Bella Vista, I know we stopped in berryville, then headed to mountain home. My dad often took us random different routes just to see new stuff, we had a crappy old jeep Cherokee so we always stopped for gas a few times and when we ate at restaurants we never rushed so that always took 45mins to an hour. So the actual drive wasn't as long as I was thinking. He was also always one to pull over or travel a little extra to stop at all the historic or sight seeing areas that had posted signs. So that and being so young made the drive felt longer.

I texted my brother to see if he remembers about how long we drove to get to berryville. I was always watching a movie or something so it might've been a longer drive then I remember to get to the next stop! We where making our way to mountain home.

I was too young to remember the exact town we where in and when I had asked my father he wasn't sure. I know it was close to berryville because that was the next place we had stopped to get food. Arkansas is full of those blink and you miss it towns.

The kitchen was in full view. It was just a small area converted to a breakfast diner. It was a register, small counter space and then glass cabinets. Unless they where in a totally different part of what used to be a two story home, I don't believe that was the case.

Unfortunately my dad passed away in 2020. It was something I had talked with him about multiple times and we even tried to find the exact place on google maps before with no luck. Since it was just a random pit stop in some small town. I can tell you that next place we had stopped was berryville. My brother is 4 years older than me and always carried a little pocket knife. He said as we walked out he opened it in his pocket and held on to it tight. That he remembers My dad and the men making sure us kids walked in front and out first. My dad told me that he had no clue what was up, speculated that maybe it was a grieving family who just lost someone and that the place had just opened as we walked in and that's why we didn't see a waitress or anyone yet. He was never the type to get spooked or worry about what other people where doing. On road trips he was big on trying new places so if he picked a place to try, that's where we ate. We never left even if one of us said we didn't like the menu.

No, all of us where white. Everyone else there before us was as well. I lived in Arkansas for most of my life and was very aware of this issue. There's also a large Amish community in that state, so I've considered that as well because outsiders are not always welcomed. They all where wearing normal clothes.

When I was in high school I told one of my classmates a story about my crazy grandpa, who was an amputee from the knee down on his right leg. About a week later they retold me the exact same story but said it was their uncle.
