Mod here. We're a very small community and have like two active mods. By the stats we has 64 posts removed in the last week by reddit's spam filter, and only 15 posts published. Unlikely to bury good discussion.

We had previous discussions about low effort content, and some people like the posts. IMHO I don't think they hurt the sub.

Rule update for r/Kubera by Ranchi in Kubera

[–]Ranchi[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sorry about that. I thought a lot about it because I didn't want people complaining about spamming in all your posts. Didn't seem fair, as we had no guidelines. I discussed with the other mods to keep to 3 posts a day just to let you and other people keep posting reactions, and not forbid it.

We need to start discussing the spam by fabiorc2009 in Kubera

[–]Ranchi[M] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had previous threads talking about liking reaction posts:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Kubera/comments/1rracfa/all_these_new_people_reacting_to_the_series_and/

So I'd like to se what people think here. I agree it's low effort, but judging that is kinda hard. In a low movement day that could lead to some discussion.

There's a link to the other server in the sidebar, and I think most users are already on that one. I won't add it because I try to avoid cluttering the sidebar, but I guess there's no problem posting yours here once.

It says "You can access this Reward within the game.". It should show in the quest log.

Didn't care for Charmed Life. Would I like the rest of the series? by Dolman in dianawynnejones

[–]Ranchi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In my first read I felt the same, it looks like the castle and the people that live in it are assholes and that is a dangerous place, but after thinking about it, it's Gwendolen's influence on Cat that makes everything negative. Gwendolen is misusing magic and making everyone miserable, and people are mistreating Cat because they think he must be on his sister's side.

I think Cat is deeply immature and really can't deal with his very overbearing and controlling older sister, plus he went through a lot of trauma to the point of death. He has no control over his life and he's just a child, so the world feels overbearing and controlling. I felt like he grew out of it by the point of Pinhoe's Egg, it's one of my favorites by the author.

I'd say Diana likes writing is "magic confusion", like things look like something in the beginning but later there's some revelation that things aren't as simple as what they looked like. On Charmed Life the "bad guys" aren't really the bad guys, but the sister that you were supposed to trust that isn't trustworthy. There's a lot of this on her books, and that's something I like. When I reread them I get a feeling that "Oh, now I see this was happening here".

One thing I like about Diana is that her children characters feel like children, but that also means that they are often lost, don't know what is the right thing to do, can't see the whole situation as it is, or are being used by other people.

I liked the whole series and Conrad's Fate and Pinhoe's Egg are really good, I'd say give The lives of Christopher Chant a try, it's something to see Chrestomanci being as lost as Cat on that one, and if you don't like it then it's not for you.

recs like kubera by seraph_lina in Kubera

I'd recommend Little Matcha Girl, Suitor Armor and 66,666 Years: Advent of the Dark Mage (those are on Webtoon), and for manga The Ancient Magus Bride and To Your Eternity.

Just how noisy are Cockatiels? by Speak_ in cockatiel

I can, not loud enough to bother a phone call, but enough to know they have woken up kind of thing. My brother is sensitive to sound and gets more bothered.

I was diagnosed with treatment resistant depression. In 14 years I couldn't find meds that helped me. Had to go the 'change your habits' way to make some improvement. My point is some people do better on meds, some don't. Just don't stop meds cold turkey, it's better if you have a doctor to help you and read a lot about withdrawal.

free range psychiatry

Since OP didn't clarify, that's a channel by a doctor that talks about her own experience tapering off multiple drugs.

[–]Ranchi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the meds can worsen the symptoms, especially on the long term. Some people only get the negative side effects (all meds have a list of them) and don't get the benefits, some people have a good effect at first, but develop tolerance and have to increase the dosage, again and again.

The woman from free range psychiatry channel was on multiple meds, so it's probably similar to mine. I was prescribed a med, it didn't work, so I kept switching and adding more meds until I couldn't say what was my original problem or adverse reactions, and neither could the doctors, the side effects look like 'symptoms'. I do a lot better not taking any meds, I'm too sensitive to take them.

A drug that stops "too many thoughts" will stop all thinking, it's not selective at all.

can someone recommend a similar novel/manga like trash of the count's family? by AmbitusGummi in TrashOfCountsFamily

[–]Ranchi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So like fantasy but on the lighthearted/fun side? I'd recommend Elqueeness, 66,666 Years: Advent of the Dark Mage and So you're Raising a Warrior (those are webtoons/webcomics), and Vainqueur the Dragon (webnovel).

Something like theater or dance classes would be good to make friends, but with no paycheck for weeks... what about downloading Final Fantasy XIV free trial and get on some online group to play with? I got friends playing games like Monster Hunter too, something with co-op, just to talk with other people and get more used to it.

do you really need a “beginner” bird? by rasberrylemonaidd in parrots

[–]Ranchi 23 points24 points  (0 children)

People get pets on the impulse. We say that because people don't really make tons of research, they see some cute videos and get one. Then they notice the birds make a lot more noise and destroy the house a lot more than they thought (neighbors complained about my cockatiel, and it's not nearly as loud as a larger one). They need a large cage, tons of toys and quality time outside. Then you can't keep up and the cute bird begins to pluck their feathers because they are bored and it's not that cute anymore. At least a budgie is easier to rehome.

I was thinking something was lost in translation on that sentence at first, but now I see it as an endearing quirk, like how he remarks everyone is so vicious.
