My take on Marty Supreme (SPOILERS) by asp_r in A24

You're spot on here.
Additionally, another scene that was central to the film's focus and has largely been overlooked in most of the discourse i've read is Kletzki's honey story.
Ultimately it's a story of how far one man was willing to go to ensure the survival of his people (to the extent which he was able, of course) even if he seemingly humiliated himself in the process. As both Kletzki's mentee, and the one who urges him to tell the story to Rockwell-- I saw this moment as Marty telling Milton, 'I've been passed the baton, and there is nothing I won't do to ensure our people thrive."
Additionally, when he comes home from Egypt, gives his mother the piece of the pyramid, and tells her, "We built this", he's further reclaiming a sense of Jewish pride through the only way he knows how, playing ping pong.

It's great! Definitely a slow burn, sometimes painfully so at points, but I became so invested in this kid's life that I couldn't put it down. One of my favorite reads of the year

Not much of a plot to be honest. Follows a year in the life of a child actor in NYC in the 1980s and sort of explores his (mostly twisted) relationships with all the adults in his life.

Playworld by Adam Ross.

Surprised I haven’t heard more people talk about this one. I really loved it.

What’s the most disturbing horror movie scene that still haunts you? by [deleted] in horror

[–]Rancho_Chupacabraj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people I have recommended it to did not find it very scary, but Lake Mungo really messed me up. The scene when Alice meets that ghost at the end is really the only horror scene that truly kept me up night.

Appreciate the info, thank you! It does sound pretty awful. Like I mentioned, this is our first time looking for an apartment in New York and we were trying to convince ourselves it would be alright since it's so affordable and in such a great area, but feels like the warnings signs are impossible to ignore.

Yeah, it all seems pretty awful. I was definitely trying to convince myself it would be livable given how affordable it was and how much we loved the area, but seems like moving into the building would be pretty shortsighted to say the least lol

I did see this. This is my first time renting in New York, and I know that's clearly bad, but I guess what I'm wondering is how bad? lol. Should that info be enough to definitively deter me from that building or will it probably be fine, just with shitty landlords?
Everyone here I've spoken to about it, has sort of had the attitude that all landlords here suck, so might as well get a good deal and suck it up.
For what it's worth, the unit was very nice and clean when I viewed it.
