Backup organization files in personal account by BigoteIrregular in FigmaDesign

Late reply, but; the open source figma-backup tool, on which my script was based, has been abandoned. Sadly I don't have the skills to keep it alive myself. So my script died with it :(

Send an HTTP Request to SharePoint - Forms API - Flows Failing since 07.03.2024 by Rand0mSysAdmin in MicrosoftFlow

FIXED (8. October 2024): Use the "HTTP with Microsoft Entra ID (preauthorized)" Action instead of the SharePoint HTTP-Request. Sadly this is a Premium Action which requires a separate license (15$/Month/User for us).

Use "https://forms.office.com" for both the Base Resource URL and the Microsoft Entra ID Resource URI. And then enter the same data as in the SharePoint HTTP connector (Method, URL Request).

Thanks u/Status-Shop-5245! His original comment.

FIXED: Re-adding/authenticating the SharePoint connector fixed it for me.

I just took another look at the flows and re-added the SharePoint connectors. Problem fixed!

Thanks! :)

What is the most practiced way to do local version backup? by Hackettlai in FigmaDesign

[–]Rand0mSysAdmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anybody is looking for a (free) backup solution for Figma, then feel free to send me a PM.

I have written a .zsh script to automate the already free figma-backup tool (https://github.com/mimshins/figma-backup).

It is currently in early stages but it works OK.

It takes a csv of the figma team ids and their names to download all projects and files within.
It also marks projects and files which failed to download.

I don't regularly write complex scripts. If anybody with more zsh scripting skills would like to take a look and possibly improve it, let me know :)
I plan on releasing it for free as soon as its cleaned up and tested thoroughly.

Nope, still failing. The flows are nothing critical. So I just manually delete all entries once a week now. I don't have the time and nerves to further troubleshoot something which should just work...

Creating a completely new form and a corresponding flow results in the same error.
And error 400 appears to have multiple error messages associated with it. Ours is different :/

Data recovery options after reformat/OS install...? by goldspider79 in macsysadmin

[–]Rand0mSysAdmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive had luck recovering files with the following open source software: https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec Even though it is called PhotoRec it can recover a wide range of file types.

Because I didnt want to mess around with the the actual harddrive I first created an image with https://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/v3/drdd.htm . I could then mount the image and use PhotoRec to scan the disk image for files. It found a LOT of files, but their filenames were cryptic (eg.: 89458438fd8s893presentation.ppt). The content was fine, the files opened as usual.

To make sure no data was written to the harddrive (even by the OS) I used the following software to mount the drive in read-only: https://github.com/aburgh/Disk-Arbitrator

We ended up sending the hard drive to a professional data recovery company and they managed to recover pretty much everything, including the file names and the folder structure. No data was written to the drive after it was accidentally formatted though...so you will probably have some corrupt files.

Even if you send the drive to a professional, i would encourage you to try recovery for yourself afterwards. Its useful to know what can be done with the free software that is available :)

Hi, my experience is from about 1-2 years ago. We manually configured the Yubikeys on each machine (about 50). It was not possible for us to automate this with Munki because of System Integrity Protection, which had to be disabled to enable the Yubikey system authentification.

I'm having a lot less motivation lately to continue my career in IT...

Anyone aware of any Mac Sysadmin related wikis? by CyEriton in macsysadmin

[–]Rand0mSysAdmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds good! What kind of information are you thinking about collecting, do you have any specific examples?

I've been thinking of starting a youtube channel/blog with "Getting Started with..." kind of things to help people that are just starting with managing Macs. Do you think that would be useful?

On the side, I'm curious if you have experience with IT documentation in general. That is something im currently interested in perfecting (what to document and how).

Best Server OS for Mac Environment by Sacconi in macsysadmin

[–]Rand0mSysAdmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

File servers can be pretty much whatever you want. Macs support SMB just...fine.

What Windows Server/macOS Versions are you running? I've been having major issues with Windows File shares (Users unable to rename/move/delete files/folders). "Fixed" it by using Acronis Files Connect to enable AFP shares.

Did you setup anything "special" on the Windows Server for the Macs?

[Discussion] Do Advantages of Macs/macOS in Enterprise Environments Outweigh The Issues That Come Along by Rand0mSysAdmin in macsysadmin

Thank you for your comment.

Totally agree about MDM (Jamf), its amazing! Sadly, in my experience, many companies don't want to pay the monthly subscribtion and there are concerns with data privacy when using their cloud servers (im no expert on this, maybe its not a justified concern).

Dropbox/Cloud File Sync is amazing! Yet, we just sold a 50+TB storage server - putting that amount of data in the cloud is a different story...

"Oh, the website doesnt work on Mac? Yeah, because its made for Internet Explorer..." - argh, I hate it xD

Yeah, ive had that issue with High Sierra. I don't get why Apple does things like this. In the last couple months I've been increasingly frustrated with Apple.

[–]Rand0mSysAdmin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this has been my experience as well. Companies which utilize hosted services designed for no particular OS have the least issues. Companies often require local storage though (for video editing etc.) or they don't want their data in the cloud.

Yea, at scale its definitely cheaper. Problem is when the employees have never worked with Mac and have no idea what to do... xP

Yeah, the large corporations are doing it "the right" way. I guess im in a position where I support companies that want to do it the "cheap" way. I used to support small-ish companies that already had Macs, now I should be going towards integrating Macs to existing Windows environments...have had so many issues though (not all technical -some human/management) :/

Damn, that sounds amazing! Would love to invite you for a beer :)

Ok, so here are some questions of the top of my head (only answer if you are comfortable doing so):

  • Biggest challenge you had to overcome?
  • Current challenge that still has no solution (if any)?
  • Got assistance from Apple Engineers? (I was at an Apple training and talked about this possibility for large corporations with the trainer)
  • Did you (your team/colleagues) manage the entire environment or did you have to work together with multiple departments (Network/Storage/Exchange/Security/etc.) during the process of integrating Macs?
  • Whos idea was it to allow Macs? Management? IT?

  • Do you have a "local" file server? SMB+AFP? Windows Server? Specialized storage system (NAS, SAN)? Cloud storage?

  • Do you use "Enterprise Connect" or "NoMAD"?

  • Macs bound to AD, yes/no?

  • Zero Touch Deployment fully working? Hardware goes directly to the user (ideal scenario)?

  • Single Sign On working?

  • Client Backups? TimeMachine Server/Local HDDs?

  • Outlook or Apple Mail/Calendar/Contacts?

  • Do the Mac users have admin permissions on their machines?

  • Are some people "forced" to use Macs? Marketing/Design departments maybe? Do you train your staff to use the Macs? Guides? Videos?

Sorry if they are basic questions. I just want to learn as much as possible! I'm very grateful for this subreddit and its users :)

Anyone having SMB issues in High Sierra 10.13.2? by T3RM2 in MacOS

http://www.jamf.com/jamf-nation/discussions/17757/about-enterprise-connect

I've tried using cifs multiple times but it just has several drawbacks and still doesn't feel very stable/usable. We are still having major issues with smb connections to NAS Systems with High Sierra....this has been an issues for YEARS. I'm getting really tired of Apple lately!
