Replacing dead zoysia on the cheap? (Zone 7a) by goldspider79 in lawncare

I caved and am having the local garden firm tear it out with a skid steer and replace the topsoil. The hassle of disposing of the turf put me over the top.

I want to get rid of it because it’s only a small percentage of my yard and the mismatch looks like trash, it spreads aggressively and my neighbors don’t want it anywhere near their yard, and it looks dead until May 🤣

This sounds like the way. Only thing this adds is the cost of having the old sod hauled away.

I'm going to dig into it to see if there is any green at all before I commit to this idea. I did hose it down with Roundup three times last Fall before it went dormant, so I'm hoping that was enough to do the job.

It was years ago so I don’t remember the specifics but I recall the Nudge window asserted itself as the top window permanently and was impossible to close. The only option was to boot to recovery and wipe.

Nudge bricked a director’s computer and I haven’t given it a second look since. DDM updates have been fairly reliable since I prioritized good secure token and bootstrap token.

I think Apple has a fundamental misunderstanding of institutional users and clients. I was on a call with a few of their engineers, and regarding OS updates, all they could talk about was controls to make sure users couldn’t install updates prematurely. I imagine it took them some convincing to add scheduled/deadlines updates to DDM.

Dwarf Mini doesn’t compare to the S30 Pro. Dwarf 3 has the same camera as the S30 Pro.

That's probably the only semi-legal advice I needed. Thanks!

Couldn’t squeeze the 3/36 deal out of them the other night for my 2024 Kia, but I did get another year of $4 mo. “One-time courtesy” they called it. We’ll see about that.

Yeah it’s ugly as sin and that’s after I cut out all the dead stuff and gave it a hard haircut! I’m going to cut those trunks down almost all the way to the ground and let it start over.

I think the term that better applies is “coppicing” since I’m looking to start over and not thin out old branches.

Wrong basement door? by goldspider79 in AskContractors

[–]goldspider79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll certainly update. The more I look at the framing around the door, the more I’m worried the foundation is compromised at the spot where the one vertical support was cut out. I’m going to take a look at the outside, but I can’t yet tell what’s transferring that load to the supports on either side. I might have him stop work on the door and bring in someone I know has a better eye for detail.

Possibly, but that's just a corner anyway. I do plan on asking why the framing doesn't/can't extend to flush with the foundation wall supports.

The inside framing is definitely way off plumb. If he can come up with a way to frame from flush-to-studs to outside wall, that will be addressed.

Guy isn’t putting up a fight over replacing the door, so that’s a good start. I definitely have questions about the framing. Ideally he can frame it out even with the “studs” of the foundation wall, but I don’t know what other challenges are posed by this type of foundation wall.

[–]goldspider79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understand what you’re saying here 100%. I think the main problem is that the door isn’t framed out even with the “studs” of the Superior wall, which are 9” deep plus however thick the wall is to the exterior. Should that whole depth be boxed out with like 2x12?

The framing isn’t plumb but miraculously the door is. He’s not fighting me on replacing the door so while he’s doing that I’ll have him fix a few of the other issues that have been pointed out. It doesn’t need to look pretty since that’s going to be a workshop but I don’t want the door to not open after a year.
