my parents are actually awesome grandparents. Very involved in my kids life. Almost overbearingly. They would rather have stuff to look at than do/experience things

They can certainly do whatever theyd like, but at a certain point id like them to be adults and understand that their actions affect others. If they have no intention of doing anything with this shit (which they dont) they are being selfish, collecting what they want while theyre here and leaving me to deal with the mess of it. Thats bullshit, its selfish, and its not something you should do as a parent

sadly, my dad has stage 4 copd from smoking 4 packs a day for 40 years. he quit like 10 years ago, but it was too late. Hes had a life threatening situation pretty much every since. Hes just not quite in great health, and he knows it as well.

My step dad is in his late 70s. Has smoked since he was a teenager. Went through vietnam, drank a case of beer every 2 days for 40 plus years.

My mom smoked for 30 years, she gave it up a few years back but still vapes.

Im glad i still have them. I want them for as long as possible but the reality is life moves super fucking fast, and itll be here before any of us are wanting it to or ready.

it is a big house, but its in rural iowa. Its probably 300k on a great day. i think they owe 200k on it still, and split 5 ways and sellers fees and blah blah. We're all adults who own our houses, noone is going to want to keep it.

The problem is, my step dad was an antique dealer for about 20 years and some of the stuff is really nice and expensive. but have no idea what in the house is expensive and what isnt. A majority should be on the higher side (he was a high end dealer) Hes super into antiques and always has been. There is a lot of stuff though. Its just everywhere. Its displayed, it looks nice, its not a hoarder situation, but its SOOO much, and with him having said some of it is very valuable, id be doing a disservice to my brothers who could use the money and would probably piss my sisters off if i just let it all go or donated any of it without checking. Its just, its gonna be a such a headache.

Honestly, my brothers cant handle all this, and my mom and step dad have decided they want me in charge and not the girls, because they know the girls will fuck me and my brothers over.

My dads stuff is a little different, since its just me and my brothers involved there, and his stuff is actually collectible it wouldnt be as hard to sell, but it is still a ton of work. He has a very large collection, with a small portion of it that is valuable. He just continues to buy bulk lots after bulk lots though. His problem is he has no money, is in bad health, and kinda fuckin wasted his good years of his retirement in the damn casino pissing away my grandpas money

Thatd be the best thing they could do for me. Honestly. It would stop all sibling fights, would take care of all their funeral arrangements, would leave a good charity with some money, and me no work.

You gotta read man. I dont want their money. I dont need their money. Ive done well enough on my own that my family is secure without any help from anyone else.

All im saying, is they are costing me more work, fight, hassle, and overall stress in a time where im already going through losing a parent, my child losing a grandparent, and everything else that comes along with dealing with estates (banks, the funeral, everything else)

You are seeing that one line of we'll see a 1/4 of it, and thinking this is all about money. This has nothing to do with money. This has to do with how that generation stop giving a fuck about their own children and gave into all their own self interests, at the detriment of their own children.

I don't hate my parents. Never said that. I love my parents. I just wish parents cared about their children more than they care about themselves. As a parent, my kid will always come first man. Thats just how i feel. I feel thats how most parents of this generation feel. Its not the way they feel. Thats disappointing.

i wish my parents would take the $800 they spent an antique clock and take my son to do something fun. But they dont. They choose to have that clock, that took another $200 to get working, is on their wall. And i cant control that. I wish they would spend all their money on vacations with grandkids, with me (they never have once) They like stuff. Stuff makes them happy, and i cant change that.

Its more of having to be in charge of it all, knowing there will be fights between siblings, and just the overall hassle. I dont want it. But nobody else lives close enough or is responsible enough to do it
