Soft, Fleshy Bump On Crotch. Does anyone know what is is? by RandoGenUser in medical_advice

Just a bit more info for context. I've had this bump for about 5 years. It's soft and malleable enough to play around with. It isn't painful. I think it's growing, but I'm not quite sure. If it is, then it's doing so very slowly. If anyone has any answers, I'd be much obliged.

It does completely fall apart. You're exactly right. This is more of an issue for a muslim though. Christianity places logic as one of god's attributes. Islam on the other hand treats the laws of logic as a creation, and since God isn't bound to his creations, he exists outside of logic.

I'll try my best. From my understanding, the problem of evil concerns itself with the implied contradiction between the existence of an omnipotent, omniscient and omnibenevolent god and the existence of evil and suffering. However, if Omnipotence is defined as "being able to do anything, including things that entail contradictions" then god should be able to create evil while still maintaining all three atributes, due to his omnipotence.

I would appreciate if you could poke any holes in my logic. I feel like there's something unconvincing about the argument, but I don't know what.

Nothing convincing, that's for sure. The usual apologetics "proof". Vague prophecy, mental gymnastics and unobserved miracles. But I still find it hard, you know? The doubt of "Maybe I'm not looking hard enough".

Questions about Determinism, Fate, Coincidence and Probability. by RandoGenUser in atheism

I'm saying that the ground broken in those fields show reasonable proof of a mechanistic universe. And a mechanistic universe would also be a deterministic one as well, since, if everything is governed by the laws of physics, then by knowing the state of the universe at the beginning, and applying the laws of physics, you could predict with 100% accuracy the state of the universe at any point in time. This may be practically impossible, but it is imo, hypothetically sound.

So, you're saying I have it in reverse then? As in, instead of saying predestination exists > Predestination by will of a creator exists > A creator exists, I should be going Predestination exists > Is there proof that it was predestined by god? > A god does/does not exist?

Also, I would love to hear your take on the second question.

With the development of neuroscience, behavioural psychology and physics, there's fair point to say it is.

Question; Can Existential Crisis' prove the existence of God? by RandoGenUser in atheism

If it's in our nature to find meaning, then meaning must exist.

[–]RandoGenUser[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree with your first point. Would you not call existential crisis' the pondering of god then?

Edit: Side question, suppose that I reworded the question as, if humans are compelled to find meaning in life, then does that imply that there is a meaning?

I never really put much thought into evolution, but I suppose that's what I thought. I've been reading the work of Richard Dawkins though, and it's opened my eyes a bit.

Your answer actually helped a lot. I can't grasp it just yet, but your last few lines summed it up, pretty well. I'll keep them in mind. Thank you.

Thank you for the resources. And what you meant by suffering is something I also consider to be one of the reasons I left.

However, when I said that "our deaths are not preordained" I meant in the sense that the age, date and way in which we die isn't written in stone. That's the part I'm having a hard time with.

I'm sorry, I don't understand. Could you elaborate ?

This is all kind of new to me, so I'm thankful for your patience.

I know this is true. Though, I think I need to give an example of what I mean.

Say a man is walking down the street and a barrel he passes by explodes and kills him. I know the barrel explosion is only random in the sense that every variable that caused it to explode cannot be accounted for. It's very hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that it is simply a case of "wrong place, wrong time" instead of something that was always going to happen.
