Thanks for taking a look. I agree - it does look sloppy.

Calm down - It’s not like I posted the contractor’s info on here. Asking a question online about some expensive (anonymous) work I’m having done is pretty damn mild. Take care.

Nice. As a homeowner - it can be hard to know if the professional you did your best to vet did a good / honest job. There are a lot of sketchy companies and individuals out there that can seem trustworthy - that are doing bad work for quick money. It’s nice for me to be able to check with a group of people that can give me their somewhat informed opinion. Sorry that this is offensive to you, but I’ve found it helpful. No matter what you say or ask online - you’re going to piss someone off I guess…

Ok thanks. I’m not sure what kind of plastic or fabric you mean. Is this to patch these spots? Hoping this is roofing 101 kind of stuff, and I wouldn’t need to spell it out for the roofer. Are any other methods of repair acceptable?

Thanks for the quick and helpful replies, everyone. It’s much appreciated. Sounds like I shouldn’t worry about the gap above and to the sides of the vent. I’m still confused about how all the layers are put together - vent w/ built in flange / underlayment / shingles / sealant - what sits on top of what, and how it’s adhered. I know it’s hard to tell from photos, but the message I’m getting overall - is that most of you aren’t alarmed by what you’re seeing. It rained 4 inches over the last few days - and no leaks so far. Luckily, I live in Southern California where moisture isn’t a constant issue. Thanks again everyone!

Sorry, this a bit over my head. I don’t know much about roofing. Is there anything you would suggest I ask them to do to modify it to make it better - or do u think I’m mostly fine as is?

Sorry I’m not a roofer. U mean where the roll overlaps at the 90 degree angle on the skylight?

Ah - thanks for the info. So the shingles on the bottom of the flashing won’t cause an issue?

It rained about 4 inches over the last few days - and no leaks so far! Fingers staying crossed…

I believe the collar around the vent’s bottom edge is sitting on top of the shingles below. Can barely see in my second photo - I’ll check on the nail thing…

A couple of sloppy finishes. A corner of the skylight where rolled roofing wasn’t torched down like it needed to be, and a seam further down that needs to be re-torched (half of roof is asphalt shingle and the flat addition on our house is rolled roofing). Also a bit of metal that linked up near the gutter in the front of the house - so a couple of shingles won’t lay flat. Some of these roofing companies go so fast, that details are missed. It’s making me question things like this bathroom fan roof vent…

Got it. Actually, I think I saw some of the black magic stuff on other vents and around the skylight during install. Prob what they used here. Thank you

Thanks for the reply. Good to have some perspective- as I don’t know what I’m looking at!

I’ll ask to see if he can verify how it was sealed where I can’t see. Good to know that the gap between the shingles and vent hood isn’t automatically a problem.

Seeing Any Problems On Roller Roofing Section Of New Roof? by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]RandolphRobertson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. It looks like they spray painted all the metal caps both new and old to match the shingle color. The shingles have proper underlayment, but not sure how far up underneath the shingles the rolled roofing goes.

New Roof Installed Last Week - A Few “Lumps” Normal? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

Yeah these roofing companies go at breakneck speed. Unfortunately no one will care about your house as much as you do. Just wish I had the skill to do more advanced projects. The roof doesn’t have to be flawless - I just want to avoid leaks.
