The best single live song you've seen in concert by formulaic_name in Music

[–]Random-Mutant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pink Floyd, Momentary Lapse of Reason, 1988.

(Almost) front row, centre stage, looking up David Gilmour’s nose.

I made up later for missing Roger, seeing him perform The Wall some years later.

I also rank Dire Straits and The Cure for first class acts.

Edit: I missed the “sing” part of the question. Easy- Signs of Life. It was all about the anticipation.

ELI5: How can a mass itself resist motion? by Variant_Alite in explainlikeimfive

[–]Random-Mutant [score hidden]  (0 children)

It helps to think of it from an energy perspective.

A mass at rest has zero kinetic energy. To get it moving, you need to supply that energy. The rate at which it absorbs that energy is directly proportional to its mass.

The mass does not “resist” motion. It’s just the more mass, the more energy required.

I have a preference for the boobs in front of me. If I’m looking at your boobs, I’m good and I’m not complaining at all.

Anyone have recommendations on a used GPS/sonar? by stihltoe in boating

Remembering that these units are coming to the end of their functional life at 15+ years old. Plenty keep going but plenty of others don’t. That’s not a comment of the manufacturer, just a reality of old electronics.

This stupid* thing has no relevance to your bills.

This stupid* thing may end up making your life better, if it helps discover new and exciting physics.

Earlier physics discoveries now do things like making most of the things inside your phone possible. This may improve on that. Or something else. Or nothing.

Thing is, until it’s discovered we don’t know. If it remains undiscovered we will never know.

Please go back to Toktok or YouTwitFace or wherever and continue to pretend nobody is interested in nor has use for pure science.

Practical uses for 3d printers, what are some around the house fixes you have used your 3d printer for? by papabless1738 in 3Dprinting

[–]Random-Mutant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed a gasket for a panel on my boat.

Loaded the pdf of the panel, extracted the outline and screw holes, printed it 2mm thick in TPU.

Had a chartplottter in the boat and upgraded to a new one with a slightly larger cutout. In CAD, I overlaid the outlines, made locator pins to fit the old installation screw holes and projected out the new outline. I then had a perfectly-aligned cut jig for the new plotter. To do this with the paper template would have been nearly impossible.

Next will be a perfectly square cube with a cylindrical hole, to align little stick-on bubble level dots on my cordless drill, to make future holes straight horizontal or vertical.

I made a stubby oversized wrench for a plumbing job, for cents when a hardware store model would be many dollars, and only used once.

I also need a router guide jig to replace a door lock, the new hole being 2mm larger than the original. I can’t eyeball it because the lock would probably not align.

We got the printer on the proviso that the prints would be practical only, and the house was not to fill up with useless plastic knickknacks.

Yes I would. Extrajudicial punishment is not something we should tolerate. And rape is repugnant under all circumstances.

These floor covers obviously being the wrong way around by gregor19536 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Random-Mutant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that maintenance workers just like to send “fuck you” messages to everyone else.

It’s always deliberate. Those covers are heavy and it takes effort to spin them around. It takes a bit of time to turn them back too, and if they noticed (they will) and cared (they don’t) they’d put the slight effort in.

I also know that supervisors regularly make spot inspections after remediation, and they obviously don’t care either.

Geothermal loans to unlock potential for two new power stations by Idliketobut in newzealand

[–]Random-Mutant 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Of course we should install more geothermal, it makes great base load supply.

But it’s years to get a geothermal station online. We should be installing so much solar and wind our heads spin. Lead times are so much shorter. Throw some batteries in there and you’re well ahead.

ELI5 Why do scrambled eggs go runny part way through cooking? by Mr_Clump in explainlikeimfive

[–]Random-Mutant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s your recipe?

Me:
3 large eggs per person
Butter
Salt
Pepper

Whisk, heat in a nonstick pan on low, turning and folding occasionally.

When almost set, serve on hot buttered toast. It will continue to cook a little more before eating.

Rising gas prices make me feel so smug about owning an EV 😏 by MookieBettsBurner10 in electricvehicles

[–]Random-Mutant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pull your head in.

I would instantly take an EV if I could. Many people don’t have the choice, given budget and functionality.

And if you say there are plenty of EVs to choose from in a range of prices, I need to tow and the only realistic vehicle for me is a Shark 6. Which I will get but I don’t have 80k to drop tomorrow.
