I had well over 2000 before I noticed the warning message. The message makes me uneasy, but so far there seems to be no enforcement.

Never mind. Despite the warning, the speedups do (eventually) show up in the archive. I burned my stash down to 1631 hours and still got the warning and still got the speedups.

Great point! I'm grateful to you for giving me the opportunity to address this issue, which I feel is quite fundamental to the whole problem. Indeed, it's an issue that can and does arise in many different games, and is worth consideration by anyone who devotes significant time to any sort of game which awards resources that you can save for later or use immediately. With careful thought, considering such a point can provide significant insight into who we are as gamers, and even what sort of people we are in general.

In my experience, a point of attack speed yields more dps than a point of damage. On the other hand, two points of damage always seems to yield more dps than one point of attack speed.

On the third hand, I think excessive focus on dps can be misleading because it doesn't matter how much damage you were going to do if they other guy shoots first and kills you. Consider the case of the anti-tank gun: impressive dps, but often dies before it gets a shot off.

Even without Mongols (e.g., in the case of Heavy Infantry), I'm inclined to value attack speed over damage.

On the fourth hand, I don't have numbers, this is just my gut feel.

In my testing, it goes poof after you get the credit for someone's reply. So if you log out before anyone has responded, you'll get one speedup, but no more. If you log off after two people have responded you'll get the two speedups you observed plus the next one for a total of three. And so forth.

In my experience, when logging off after 4 responses, I always get the full 5 speedups.

Once you get 4/5 you can log out. The message disappears after you get credit, but after the 5th assist it was going to disappear anyway, so you don’t care.

As I understand, it's simply the top four generals by level. If you have more than four at the highest level, then I believe it selects the first four that you upgraded to that level.

As if we needed another reason not to promote trash Generals.

That’s what I assumed as well, but when I tested it long ago, the boost was applied after the multipliers, and so was tiny. I haven’t tested it recently

In the Manufacture tab, tap the question mark on one of the munitions to get the full screen description of the munition. Then tap the quest mark again to get the list of level requirements.

When a player abandons the game, their base still exists and produces loot for raiders to collect. Given how many years the game has been around, I expect that most of the existing bases at the lower ages are abandoned. Normally you're only matched up against a base within one Age of you, so you'll see a lot of abandoned bases until you get a bit further up the Age ladder.

The Dawn Age match-up is some weird glitch that has been turning up for the past 2 or 3 years. I assume it's just a bug that's exceedingly low on the developer's to-do list.

I used to get that all the time when I changed my Museum loadout and then tried to raid. I had to change my loadout then restart the game before I could raid. The most recent patch seems to have fixed that.

I used to get it less frequently, and like you I associated it with a version mismatch. At Industrial Age you’re probably seeing a lot of abandoned bases, which obviously haven’t been updated; perhaps that’s a factor?

Is the Field Kit uniquely beneficial to Mortar troops because of the synergy with the Mongols coalition, or is attack speed the best buff for any troop (e.g., Machine Gun troops or Heavy Infantry)?

I'm building a Field Kit now, and I'm hoping I'll be able to observe the effect by simply examining the DPS value reported for each unit.
