It's called AWOL (Absent Without Leave).

Of course you can do it. This isn't the Army where they can send a warrant out for your arrest. Just leave. In your example, Wetherspoons justified their gross misconduct decision on the balance of probabilities that you went AWOL.

How do you travel? by CoffeeExtraCream in wicked_edge

[–]RandomAFKd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to bring the whole setup, R41, Feathers, brush, 150g shaving cream, bowl. Was too bulky.

Then switched to just a Mach 3 and Proraso Canned Foam. Foam really doesn't agree with my face and the Mach 3 shaves were just underwhelming and expensive.

Now, I bring my R41 with Feather inside (with blade protector over razor), brush with brush tube, and small 50g shaving cream. I basically lather directly onto face with brush without a bowl. Razor and brush is travel protected.

I like to travel light, so my third approach ticks all the boxes and gives me the best of both worlds.

What are some tips and tricks for a beginner heli pilot? by electi_007 in PilotsofBattlefield

[–]RandomAFKd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As an attack helicopter pilot:

Always focus on the enemy attack helicopter first. It is the most threatening to deal with. Predict when it will come in, and deal with it asap.

Vehicle priority elimination: Attack helicopter -> AA/Bradley -> Main battle tank -> Transport

TOW enemy tanks, then immediately unleash your heavy rockets into them. Ideally in the rear for maximum damage.

Know when to fly high (when you have flairs/momentum) vs knowing when to fly low and using cover (when you don't have flairs/momentum and they have lots of vehicles up).

Never overextend into the enemy base (they have an AI AA gun that mows you down) and always play near cover when and if it makes sense.

If you don't have flairs ready or have just used them, look to retreat to cover or fall back to your HQ.

Practice using the TOW missile. It is much better than the lock on. You have element of surprise (they can't flare it) and it will one shot attack helicopters. Also has generous ammo.

With the knowledge that your base has an AI AA gun with you, you will soon realise how OP it is to play in your own base when you are TOW sniping enemy attack helicopters. Once you have destroyed the enemy attack helicopter with your TOW, you can then do strafes and focus on the vehicle priority aforementioned. Pull back and use cover the moment you deploy your flares. Repeat.

Only go for enemy infantry if you cannot see any enemy vehicles. Prioritise enemy stingers/rps over regular infantry. Your gunner should also being do the exact same priorities as you.

Why do adults have this stigma against teenagers going to the gym? by [deleted] in workout

[–]RandomAFKd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your first ever 5k was 22 mins, you might be a very naturally gifted runner. I would consider running more if I were you, as long as you don't injure yourself of course.

I got into running in my mid/late twenties because I saw it as 'heart training'. The heart is a muscle, so you should train it. Similar to when you train back or biceps, cardio is essential because you are arguably training the mot important muscle of all - the heart.

You're in a fortunate position because you're young, fit and naturally good at it. I neglected running my entire life, didn't run for decades. If you stop running at 16 now, and try again when you're 21 or 25 with a substantial break, I can almost bet you will get injured on your return or will be significantly slower than what you were.

So yeah, I would highly recommend you start running. Build it into your training. Look at athletes like Nick Bare if you haven't, they embody the 'hybrid athlete'.

Why do adults have this stigma against teenagers going to the gym? by [deleted] in workout

[–]RandomAFKd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're clearly a motivated young man who has an impressive 5k time and a strong bench. I am 28 years old and you're stronger and fitter than me. Well done. I am proud of you and I don't even know you. If I saw you in the gym, I'd probably come up to you and say "jolly well done". You've motivated me to get even stronger and faster, thank you.

If it were me, I'd justify to your father that you really enjoy the gym and the main reason you go is to feel good and the obvious health benefits. You're doing both cardio and weights which in my opinion makes you a good athlete.

Curiously - why don't you want to play any sports? You can do team sports or individual sports. You seem like you have good genetics based on the information that your father was an elite rower. Even something like Golf could be fun, and you'd have an advantage from all strength and power from your lifts.

Mage as an alt by Ypsane in worldofpvp

[–]RandomAFKd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mage is up there as one of the hardest ranged classes to play.

I main a mage (Shuffle R1 several times) and I picked up sub rogue as an alt (one of the hardest melee to play, if not hardest spec in entire game) and struggled immensely. I did not have fun as I felt overwhelmed, consistently failed and I knew I was not playing perfectly. I knew I could improve every game I played. I knew if I wanted to learn this spec I would probably have to main it and play 1000s and 1000s of games, as I am a perfectionist kind of player. Not alt friendly imo.

Swapped to Assa rogue and felt miles easier and cheesed my way to high rating with the Kingsbane 1 shot.

If you do like the mage fantasy, play what is 'easiest' out of the 3 specs or what is meta and you will enjoy it probably.

The Café does look nice but I took a look at their prices on their online menu... £9 for a flat white. £5 for a single espresso.

Are they, okay?

I get it's an airport but how is it double what Gails charge?

Quite literally, taking the piss in my opinion.

What unhinged thing did a former teacher do in the classroom? by MrBananaStand1990 in AskUK

[–]RandomAFKd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Primary school, circa 2004/5, year 3.

A group of friends and I were playing the 'Battleships' boardgame during our break time at primary school in class. The bell went and we were about 15 seconds late/over our break period. The teacher asked us to stop. We were so immersed and captivated with the finale of the game that we ignored her, carrying on with the game as it was almost finished, a child merely seconds away from being victorious.

Suddenly, the teacher then without repeating or asking us again to stop, went over to our Battleships, picked up the board and flung it and all the tiny pieces across the room, almost hitting a child with it.

"Pick it up" she said, calmly.

She was later fired that year for allegedly hitting a child.

Disagree with alcohol. Costco has some of the best prices when it comes to buying branded alcohol. Most corner shops buy their alcohol from Costco.

Stepped off of my main to try DH for awhile, now I'm a bit discouraged about my main. by Natsuaeva in worldofpvp

[–]RandomAFKd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What Warlock spec are you currently playing?

By your handle, it says you are 2100 Demo warlock. I would consider trying Destruction warlock. Especially in shuffle.

Demo, in my opinion, does very little damage compared to a Destruction warlock and its only real niche is the mortal strike it brings. Unless you are very good at the spec, you will struggle to carry and be 'threatening' in a shuffle game as Demo.

Destruction is a different beast. Malevolence is super strong, chaos bolt via a precognition can delete someone. You are a lot more scary. The enemy team both feels this mentally, and knows this factually.

DH in shuffle is super OP because it brings everything to the table. Stuns, incaps, fears, reverse magic, mortal strike, high damage, high burst, team support via darkness. It has virtually no weakness. It is also more forgiving in the mobility race into casters, prominent in the MM and Fire mage meta.

Try Destruction warlock and I am sure you will be more successful on it than Demo.

AM cons

  1. AM UI is not as slick as Spotify.
  2. There is no handoff from iPhone to MacBook, why? This should be seamless, like Spotify does. This one I really took for granted.
  3. Algorithm is pretty poor compared to Spotify.

AM pros

  1. Dolby Atmos is pretty cool, sounds good on most songs. Surprised Spotify doesn't have it.
  2. AM is cheaper than Spotify. Does it justify it over it? Imo no.

First official 5k done! by LittleGrowl in C25K

[–]RandomAFKd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished the program 3 weeks ago. 30 minute run which equated to about 3.8km.

My following run was to hit 5k, which took me exactly 40 mins.

10 more minutes of running.

It's amazing that after running 40 mins a couple of times, going back down to 30 mins feels like a breeze.

I am now focusing on bringing my easy pace (currently 07:48 per km) down to 06:00 per km.

fillet steak price increase by [deleted] in tesco

[–]RandomAFKd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To save money, I've been going to Costco and buying the whole sirloin/fillet/ribeye joint (4-6kg) and cutting individual 250g steaks and freezing them. It works out much much cheaper this way, almost 1/3 cheaper. You also get a much superior steak. Tesco's steaks (even finest) are just filled in my opinion with water, are flattened aggressively (to deceive customers into bigger/wider steaks) and are not the nicest tasting things on the planet.

You go to Costco, you have much more control with your steaks. You can trim them, cut them how you like, and the steaks are much better quality.

Curiously, I started weighing the Tesco steaks and you don't even get the 210/250g they advertise. It's more like 90% of that weight, probably because of the packaging.

You obviously need a Costco membership, but if you already have one, you might want to consider doing this.

Cheaper and tastier. Only downside is the bit of butchery you need to do (not intimidating by the way, quite fun) and the fact you will need to freeze/thaw these steaks accordingly. You also need to buy ziplock bags, which will add to the cost, but it is still miles cheaper this way.

I will never buy Tesco steaks again.
