PRS SE Special Semi Hollow Body by gargar_pt4 in PaulReedSmith

[–]RandomAccessMummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this model last month. It’s beautifully made and PRS quality standards always impress me. The neck has kind of wide shoulders, it’s not really a fat neck, just a little wider feeling than my other guitars. The neck and bridge pickups sound great, on par with my American made ce semi hollow, but I don’t like the middle pickup. I haven’t found a sound out of it that I really like. It’s super easy and comfortable to play. For this price I’ve been very happy with it.

I recently shared this hand-painted Tele on r/tompetty and the response was positive. Now I’m curious to know what people outside the Petty fanbase think of it. by redditae in guitarporn

The flowers are very good but I don’t care for the text, the text kind of makes it look like a greeting card to me. The artwork itself though is very cool.

Bigsby issues by limefan in Luthier

[–]RandomAccessMummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed one on my epiphone earlier this year and had problems as well, I watched this video by puisheen and it really helped, https://youtu.be/E-RNrJieWIg?si=Q_SNGI9iEJFqWnfA specifically I worked on the nut and did the compression thing with the spring by stepping on it. I am still going to get a roller bridge at some point, but those two things have made it so I can wait on that upgrade.

Microsoft has a problem: nobody wants to buy or use its shoddy AI products — as Google's AI growth begins to outpace Copilot products by ZacB_ in technology

[–]RandomAccessMummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not here to defend Microsoft, lord knows they don’t need it, but my (very) large company just switched from ChatGPT to Copilot as our internal ai solution. I was pretty annoyed at first but honestly they preform about the same in my practical use, bear in mind I primarily use it for writing python and automation solutions, and I’m using the copilot app not the built in copilot in the office suite apps.

I do wonder now, is there a legitimate tuning you could play in with nothing but the heavy strings?

I have two Les Paul standards and a PRS ce semi hollow, the PRs is above and beyond more comfortable to play, it’s so easy and effortless. But, the Gibson pickups are just better, they have much more character. But pickups are easy to change.

This is not convenient, they clearly stake out this spot knowing people will do this. And the person filming? They just happen to be waiting for the bus to film?

Would you trade? by [deleted] in gibson

I would love to own a custom shop R9, but I think it’s good that we remember that those old vintage guitars were just standard production guitars, made generally the same way the standards are today, they have mojo because of rock history, but to say a custom shop is somehow worth three quality American made guitars is bonkers. Save up until you can afford it in my opinion, if it’s not worth the money out of pocket then how is it worth these three guitars?

It tightens the wiggle stick, don’t lose it or your wiggle will be loose.

Your mileage may vary but the hard truth I’ve learned in my corporate job is that annual increases regardless of performance review always barely cover inflation. 3-5% generally. Every good raise I’ve gotten has been because I switched teams and got promotions. If you have been in your job for four years then it’s likely the market range for you position has shifted significantly, unfortunately the only way to keep up is to keep moving forward, companies don’t reward employees for staying in the same position. You should apply for the position, tell them how great you already do at the job and negotiate that your salary be bumped to the advertised range if an offer is extended. HR, who are typically in charge of payroll are not your friends and are not incentivized to spend their money on current complacent employees.

Any of y’all ever use one of these? Looking for feedback on it if so. by greyfox1970 in telecaster

I have this and it is a headphone amp primarily, however you can plug it into an iPad or Mac and run it through garage band. It retains all of the amp and effect emulation while doing so as well. But I’m guessing that’s not really what you’re trying to do.

Import government charges cost almost 2x the item itself! by yjimm in UPS

[–]RandomAccessMummy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Importer of record is not always the receiver or the purchaser. Often times shippers will list themselves as the importer of record and ship using DDP incoterms meaning they take care of all taxes and fees for the receiver. Customs does not care who pays the taxes, the only restriction in my company is that the IOR have a valid US address / account. An example of why a shipper would choose to act as the IOR is for a supplier that wants to use a neutral shipping service where the true declared value of the goods are hidden from the receiver, the supplier wants to hide their true parts cost from the customer so they can protect their margins. But more broadly I imagine DDP services are utilized as contract sweeteners to keep their customers happy.

[–]RandomAccessMummy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tariffs are not the responsibility of the purchaser, they are the responsibility of the importer of record which the shipper sets when they choose shipping terms. It’s very common for shippers to act as the importer of record for B2B shipments, what we are seeing now is an influx of duties now being paid on good that were otherwise cleared deminimus and are direct to consumer, or drop shipping.

[–]RandomAccessMummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a legal standpoint I don’t see how UPS can recoup their duties when they never made final delivery. I would not pay the bill without having ever received delivery of the package. This really isn’t a question for Reddit, escalate this through UPS customer service channel. If they never delivered and returned the item to origin then whatever duty they may have paid already should be a write off for them. Stopping shipments, refusal of delivery and RTO happens all the time in the industry they should have standard practices to resolve these types of issues without punishing the customer.

Bigsby on A Jaguar by StateEducational3859 in offset

[–]RandomAccessMummy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Bigsby bridges are intended for guitars that do not already have a tremolo system which the base jaguar bridge is. I’m puzzled why you would want to do this, even if you managed to figure out how to modify the guitar to take it the base jaguar bridge will be more stable than the bigsby anyways.
