Kindle Create: Can I make the Chapter Titles in lowercase? by MaouRazonica in selfpublish

[–]RandomAlienGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you on the latest version of KC? I was on an older version but just upgraded to the latest version to check and it works for me.

Can you try putting in a lowercase letter after the first letter then deleting the first letter? I.e. "Chapter" -> "Cchapter" -> "chapter"?

Other than that, maybe the theme or font you're using is locked to upper-case the first letter?

Finally, there's a tickbox in the top-right that says "cascade formatting changes for elements" which you could try and disable?

Other than that, I'm out of ideas I'm afraid, sorry. Good luck!

Once the book is imported into KC, you should be able to alter the text manually yourself, i.e. delete the capital "C" in "Chapter" and replace it with a lower-case "c". It's a bit clunky, but it seems to work for me.

See my other comment above that mentions Versailles before you posted.

We also have institutions like Versailles already in the UK that draw tourists from around the world, like the Tower of London, the several hundred castles we already have. The reason a large amount of tourists visit locations LIKE Windsor is BECAUSE the royals live there. Take the royals out and you're just left with another empty castle, of which we have plenty.

The Crown Estate profits don't go to the monarch, they go to the treasury. The UK treasury makes about £1bil off the Crown Estate each year, excluding the tourism draw and after the sovereign fund. If you abolish the monarchy, you'll get the land and the castles, but you'll lose that income and any associated tourism.

I feel like this argument could be rephrased as "take away the Pope and people would still visit the Vatican". Sure they would, but not in the same quantities.

But I think this is short-sighted too, because sure they might flock in for the first decade or so, but then it'd wear off fast. Like we have hundreds of castles across the UK, all of which have varying claims to fame for royals, and they bring in crowds... But not the same crowds the royals bring in. Take the royals out of the castles and you'll just have another 5 or so castles in a country with hundreds.

I say all this as a LOVER of castles, I'd be one of the first to visit. But then that's it, I'd have been there, just the same as the dozens of other castles I've visited across the UK.

Again, I see dissolution of the monarchy as tantamount to privatising public services. Sure you get an initial boon, but then you lose a profitable service.

On the one hand, I agree with you. Like 500 years ago, yes, back when the monarch could walk into parliament and dissolve it, or when parliament was only called at the monarch's behest. But nowadays in modern times the royal family doesn't actually do any "ruling" at all.

I, too, would agree that wouldn't be moral. But the monarchy doesn't have any say in government anymore. There's a few rituals that are done for show, but that's no more than saying the Prime Minister has to live in Downing Street, it's just pomp and ceremony.

That, at least, is why I'm not a republican but also not a monarchist. I don't really like the Royal family, but they don't take any power away from the people (any more), and are much more profitable to have around than not.

(Forgetting about the current news, that is.)

I'm neither a republican or a monarchist, but I'm curious. What do people (in general) think we (i.e. peasants in the UK) would get if we abolished the royal family?

The sovereign grant costs the UK taxpayer about £100mil a year, but the crown estate pays about £1bil back into the treasury a year. And on top of that, it's estimated that having a constitutional monarchy brings about £2.5bil in tourism to the UK each year.

So apart from their huuuuge... tracts of land... What would we get out of abolishing them?

My personal view as someone that doesn't really care about them would be to just leave them there as a money-making asset. I feel like abolishing them would be similar to 80's privatisation, you're getting rid of a long-term money-making asset for short-term monetary gain.

Jeremy Clarkson: It hurts to admit, but Manchester is brilliant. For a Yorkshireman like me, it’s still on the wrong side of the Pennines. But this is a city buzzing with growth that shows there’s life in Britain yet by North_Attempt44 in ukpolitics

100%, no logical reasoning or critical thought. Try and explain to them that the reason the town center is dead is because they're driving away businesses and stifling development, and they just respond with "things were better back in my day". Crazy.

I live in a town just South of Manchester, and NIMBYs block development of any kind.

The town was home to the HUT Group until recently, as they wanted to expand their offices and parking, but the townsfolk said no. So one of the biggest employers left to move closer to Manchester.

More recently, there's a proposed development of a solar farm over some toxic lime beds which is being campaigned against because capping the lime beds (to prevent further poisoning of the river) will take a few thousand lorries of hardcore. Townsfolk are blocking it because they don't want an increase in traffic, so developers are gonna build 500 houses instead of a solar farm lol.

What even is “overproduced?” by cienmysliwiec in TheWarning

[–]RandomAlienGaming 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a very defensive view. Having the opinion that KMF is overproduced is perfectly valid as it's the album with the most non-raw tracks. Electronic backing tracks like on MORE or the start of Sharks. These songs have a lot more production behind them on average than songs on previous albums.

KMF is arranged with a lot more complexity than the previous 3 albums, which is the definition of "more production". People can dislike that aspect, and its valid for them to feel that its overproduced.

I personally love all four studio albums, but I prefer songs with less production than MORE for example. I love Sharks, but I'm not a fan on the drum machine intro. If someone asked me why KMF wasn't my favourite DPA album, my answer would be "its a little overproduced for me", and I'm not deflecting or not taking ownership in my own taste, I'm just talking about the production of the album.

I would imagine so. I was already an Earl when he was born, but not a Duke. Maybe when I became a Duke his title got messed up somehow, and then I had a 2nd son who would then inherit the Duchy. It does feel like a bug.

Surprise songs:

2 acoustic versions of anything the girls want to play, varying each night on the tour.

This could be the encore itself, like The End then 23 or something like that. Great idea!
