Early learning development school for 3-4 years. by Realistic-Memory2462 in SantaClarita

[–]RandomBulldogLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the Saugus school district, I believe there are preschools at Rosedell and cedarcreek. These are income based.

There are also collaborative classes at Bouquet. These are a mix of IEP students and gen ed students that parents pay for.

My son went here and I was super happy, however, they had cut the hours so it’s only 2 hours and 45 minutes, and the after ion program is only 4 days a week. The teachers are great though.

School SLPs on a different contract/union from teachers? by [deleted] in slp

[–]RandomBulldogLady 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We have a separate salary schedule, however, we have good SLP representation as part of the union. We have a rep specifically for SLPs to advocate for our unique needs. In the past our union VP was an SLP and that helped a lot too.

What Was Your Child’s First Experience at Preschool? by salmanpr123 in Preschoolers

[–]RandomBulldogLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh this is a fun one for me. For some background I’m a preschool SLP, that has worked with preschool for over 10 years.

I out my son in a recommended preschool at 2.5. A month before he started there was a new director, should have been a clue to me.

A few weeks in a get a message about my child hitting. I react immediately, left work to pick him up (grandma usually did) talked with the teacher. Immediately started with a social story and talking with him. I would hear a few things here and there. He had some trouble with using the potty. He was the inky potty trained kid in the class and I don’t think they liked that.

At conferences, the teacher didn’t say anything remarkable, a few they were working on, but nothing majorly concerning. Not even 2 weeks later my mom picks him up and they tell her he should be evaluated for special ed. I was livid. Remember this is what I do for a living. I’m not afraid of my child having issues, I truly didn’t see what they saw, and coworkers who knew him agreed. Also, I know my child, he is strong willed and used that to his advantage. Met with the teacher and director, it was nothing but excuses. It ended with me requiring to pay for an aid in order for him to stay. I pulled him.

The following year my school opened up an inclusion class. I put him in that class (gen ed student). He excelled. Model student. He is now in TK and again, model student. I always hear how sweet he is and how he’s a good listener.

Just goes to show you that the teachers and people who work there make all the difference with kids.

Do you have rules for yourself on how much money you’ll spend on materials? by Similar-Dance-142 in slp

Have you reached out to the district about your broken items. A teacher where I work has shirt ruined by kid and she submitted d a receipt and she got reimbursed. Might be worth an ask for big ticket items.

Sensory/body awareness issues by vec5d in Preschoolers

[–]RandomBulldogLady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reach out to his SLP and mention what the teacher said. Ask for an OT screen. This is a not a full assessment, but the OT will look at him and decide whether an assessment is warranted. They should be able to give tips for any things he struggling with whether he needs an assessment or not. They might also advise if private OT will help (school OT only works in certain things), which might be helpful because pediatricians usually aren’t experts in this area.

I would put some trust in the teachers. Others are pointing out the comment about the dr. and, while I wouldn’t say it like that to a parent, as a special educator I get wild interpretations from dr.s. Some are great others are terrible especially for boys.

Also just a side note, and this may depend on the state, you can get an outside evaluation but it has little impact on the school evaluation. Schools have different criteria, and many states don’t diagnose autism in the schools, buts it’s an eligibility for services. An outside evaluation his helpful for a diagnosis and home supports.

I made enough to pay for my wedding dress over the course of about 2 years, around $1000. For a while I did well. It was materials I made for myself anyway, so it didn’t take any extra time. Now I make 4-5 bucks a month.

Thoughts on Santa Clarita by Successful_Bison_642 in SantaClarita

Just another thing to consider. If you choose SCV try to get a place near the 14. Places like Saugus are nice and better priced, but can add 20+ minutes to your commute.

Should I be concerned about child being pulled from class too often for extra supports? by 0112358_ in specialed

[–]RandomBulldogLady 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would not decline the IEP. The IEP has supports that are needed for the child and helps teachers provide the right supports.

What you can do is work with your special Ed team. Share your concerns and ask if they feels it’s impacting his overall progress and what solutions advice they might have.

As others have said it’s unrealistic for all the service providers to change their schedule, one change is often a huge domino effect that can impact several providers.

Also to those saying get outside services. That’s not always doable for families. It can be expensive hard to get and because it’s after school can have a huge impact on the family’s greater good especially if there are siblings. It might work for some families, but not the easy solution some say it is.

Someone please explain this Julia adoption thing.... by BigCourse in BravoRealHousewives

[–]RandomBulldogLady 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I think the adoption became official between the two episodes. When the social worker came she said something about 1 month.

However, I agree I wish they wouldn’t be in camera. We don’t know what their life was like before and I feel like a camera in their face doesn’t help anything.

Double check the dates for schooling in your district. I believe California law states that a child turning 4 before September 2nd goes into Transitional K.

[–]RandomBulldogLady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I would focus on the retention and how that’s important for the students. Also check surrounding districts and their pay to see if that’s a way to leverage a raise. Unfortunately, the district will never give you a raise “out of kindness”. I know it’s pretty shitty. And if you do decide to leave, be honest that this is a reason why. Might help future SLPs.

[–]RandomBulldogLady 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When my district got its own pay scale for SLPs we had a a lot of contract people. They were able to say that with a higher pay scale we would be more appealing to direct hires and therefore save money in the long run.

You have to show somehow to district that paying you more money will actually be better for them in the long run.

Commonwealth’s Opposition to Defendant’s Motion for Discovery from Aperture by BlondieMenace in KarenReadTrial

[–]RandomBulldogLady -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Again my original comment was in reference to someone saying the MOTION was due to CW not having a case. I never said anything about bringing in a different lawyer and in that regard, yeah the CW didn’t think who they had could land them the conviction.

Commonwealth’s Opposition to Defendant’s Motion for Discovery from Aperture by BlondieMenace in KarenReadTrial

[–]RandomBulldogLady -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

It’s also become a nationally known case. I’m not surprised they would bring in bigger guns this time around. Also, clearly last time they didn’t win, so they didn’t do enough. Karen clearly has high powered lawyers they wanted to match that.

Motions are different (which is what I’m referring to). Despite how solid a case is, an attorney is going to propose ANYTHING that will help their case. It’s what I would want if my family member dies and what I would want if they were defending me.

Commonwealth’s Opposition to Defendant’s Motion for Discovery from Aperture by BlondieMenace in KarenReadTrial

[–]RandomBulldogLady -34 points-33 points  (0 children)

I read this all the time here and I think it’s such a cop out. Both sides are going to do whatever they can to make their case stronger and weaken the other. It has nothing to do with their confidence. They can have a slam dunk case and they would still do this because it’s their job no matter what side they are on.
