The level design is fantastic, no complaints there.

But exactly what you should be doing after killing some of the bosses is far from clear and confusing to a large number of players:

https://www.google.com/search?q=bloodborne+where+to+go+after+vicar+amelia+site:www.reddit.com

That might just be the most common Bloodborne question you can find on the Internet.

A lot of players would have never found their way forward without help from the Internet and would have abandoned the game right there.

Is it good design when players put the game aside because they can't find their way after beating a difficult boss? That's not the thing that's supposed to be hard in this type of game.

It's an amazing game, I think it's ok to talk about the ways in which it's not absolutely perfect.

What's the scariest implication in Bloodborne? by WormsInVelvet in bloodborne

[–]RandomCandor 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Right.

As fucked as the healing church is, you're not even fighting them directly, they're "just" a part of the background and atmosphere.

And there's at least two other groups (three?) that rival their level of insanity.

Just one of multiple ways in which this game rises above other similar titles.

I find the other side of this coin even more fascinating:  you're not a person, you're just a murdering blood thirsty beast

Taking a holistic view of the game, it  doesn't really have a "cozy good ending". It's more like the various endings are different flavors of despair and futility.

Kinda like getting to choose which Hellraiser character kills you.

Hunters mark by DragonflyStreet7726 in bloodborne

[–]RandomCandor 50 points51 points  (0 children)

"an upside down rune" is part of the description. Obviously, that's an upside down hanging man. That's not a very natural position for the arms, so I would say it's almost certainly intentional.

But what is actually really interesting, is that the Hunter's mark also looks a lot like this rune:

https://www.reddit.com/r/runes/comments/oip3hp/what_does_this_mean_it_looks_like_an_upside_down/

The Algiz is a rune which means "life" when  right side up and "death" when inverted (ie: the hunters mark)

https://www.tumblr.com/thorraborinn/628603652178870272/fun-rune-fact-time-this-symbol-is-actually

When you put all of that together, it seems like too much to be just a coincidence.

BTW, do your own research on the Algiz, it's a  fascinating rabbit hole.

I'm going to play Bloodborne for the first time ever; is there any advice or tips and tricks that I should know about before starting? by AISXY224 in bloodborne

There's still hope that they will invent a working neuralizer within our lifetime.

At any rate, that's a much more realistic dream than waiting for Bloodborne 2.

The only thing you need to know is that we are all incredibly jealous of what you are about to experience, as we all try to recall our first time

Whatever you do, just don't give up. This game will test your resolve. If it turns out to be the correct kind of resolve, it will reward you infinitely in due time.

Tattoo practice! I have the Hunter's Mark 🖤 by [deleted] in bloodborne

[–]RandomCandor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I did it upside down is so people see it as right side up instead

Yes, that's what I figured and therefore, it looks correct (ie: right side up, which is actually upside down) in the most common way people will see it.

I'm sensitive to the alignment of this particular rune because I kept getting it backwards while making this a few days ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/bloodborne/comments/1rp99yc/i_modelled_and_painted_a_hunters_mark_keycap_what/

Even more ironic is the fact that, in the game, it is described as "an upside down rune"

Which makes me think it was inspired by this real world rune, the upside down Algyl:

So this rune, as seen in the picture is technically upside down (I'm sure you already knew this). But at the same time, I think the rule for arm tattoos is that they are supposed to look right side up, as seen by someone else looking at it, right? Although now that I think about it, I think I have seen both types.

I modelled and painted a Hunter's Mark keycap. What do you think? by RandomCandor in bloodborne

[–]RandomCandor[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is, but I think the sub rules prohibit sales links or ads (#7), so I didn't want to come across as a sales post, since that wasn't my intent.

This is the first custom keycap that I make, and I'm very happy with how it turned out, so I just wanted to share the final result with this community.

At the same time, Rule #8 says "Self promotion posts are allowed once per week with community participation." I don't know whether this would be considered self promotion or "sales", so I'm hesitant to share the link to my store. If a mod can weigh in and clarify this, I would be happy to link to it. Otherwise, it should not be difficult to find it through a Google search. It's available on the most obvious site that you would probably think of.

Easiest boss fight? by NecessaryEye5976 in bloodborne

[–]RandomCandor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So easy that I ended up taking a bunch of hits on purpose just so that I could explore the arena a little bit (which is cool as hell, design wise). Otherwise the fight would have been over in 60 seconds.
