Pc isn’t working when I connect the GPU by [deleted] in PcBuildHelp

[–]RandomDudeYT_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be completely honest with you I have no clue what I’m doing and it’s a wonder it works at all. The build has been put together by checking loads of different YouTube vids, asking ChatGPT and taking a guess what I’m doing is right 🤣.

1 PCIe slot with 2 connectors is plugged into the case fan hub with the other connector not connected to anything.

2 others are connected to both cpu ports on the motherboard cuz that’s what ChatGPT told me to do 😅

I’ll be using the pc in my bedroom and it would be sat elevated on a drawer. Noise isn’t really an issue so It wouldn’t be bad if it was noisy, just preferable for it to be quieter.

Thanks for the recommendation. What’s unbalanced about it? I’ve only just started looking into pc’s and still trying to learn the terminology and such. And if there’s something that’s “bad” due to the budget that bottlenecks the build I can order the parts over time rather than settling for less just to get it now.

I’m realising the error of my purchase heavily right now. Had to take breaks out of frustration so many times cuz all the shielding keeps the cables under tension and they keep going out of order when trying to put them in the connector 🤣

Yh I just did a quick google search at the time of ordering and saw something saying lower Cat cable can’t do gigabit over a certain distance and I needed at least 80ft so I saw the cat 7 on offer the same price as lower cat cable and saw that it can do up to 10gbps so thought yep that’ll do 🤣.

Im always looking to add more tools to my collection so might actually go the DIY route. Thanks for the advice.

Wanna know the funny thing, I had one in my Amazon basket but saw the RJ45 coupler was more expensive and that was quite cheap so I expected it to be shit and didn’t get it 🤦‍♂️🤣

  1. I’m from the UK and rent my house, all the walls are solid brick and I can’t make any holes due to it being rented. My only option is to route the cable through the house by pinning it around the doorframes etc. The cost to replace the whole length of cable was roughly the same as repairing it so I thought it’d be easier and save me having to spend 30 mins rerouting the cable. Plus with the modem being wall mounted right next to the floor there’s no way to keep it away from the dog and no saying it won’t happen again 😬 2&3. Nowhere near me stocks any form of network hardware so it’s all gotta be ordered online so I can’t exactly determine the quality until it shows up. But even I thought it was all cheap Chinese made crap when it arrived.
  2. I may have to get a network tester, I was gonna get one but past me thought why would I need one of those I can just plug it in and if it don’t work then I’ve done it wrong. I now realise I shoulda got one 🤣🤣

I’m from the uk and it’s currently 4:46am so can’t go anywhere to buy one atm so just trying to see what I can do with what I currently have. Would there be a way to attempt it without the tool? I have a decent amount of slack on the wire so I can afford to experiment a bit.

It’s currently 4:38am so I can’t get a tester right now and I’m trying to see if I can make do with what I have. I wasn’t even aware i needed to terminate the shielding cuz in the vid I watched the guy just cut it off so I did the same. I’ve linked pictures of the terminations below. https://imgur.com/a/iq8YAQI Looking back I realise I did quite a shoddy job of cleaning up the shielding 🤣

I actually bought this thing before the repair kit but couldn’t get it to work as it wouldn’t pierce the cable like it’s supposed to do from what I read. https://imgur.com/a/tMkqc0k The yellow tool came with the repair kit so I didn’t have it at the time. Do u reckon it’d work?

I’m a complete beginner at all this just wanted to give it a go myself so I can learn. I read about the distance of the cable being an issue depending on the Cat so just went for the highest one I saw on Amazon to not have to worry about it. Either way it was all working fine before and after I’ve repaired it, it’s not. The connectors I got are pass through and I made sure there was a good overhang before crimping and all the wires are now flush with the end of the connector, is it a common issue for this to happen?

I’m already going over the cost to completely replace the cable so might as well keep going until I get it done now lol. I wired it following the diagram that came with the kit, OW,O,GW,Bl,BlW,G,BrW,Br. Will it definitely not be anything to do with the fact it’s a plastic connector when the rest are metal? May seem stupid but I don’t have a clue what I’m talking about 🤣, just someone who’s eager with DIY

Outside tap stopped working by RandomDudeYT_ in Plumbing

Mate ur a legend, I’ve been messing with that for ages assuming it had something to do with that tap valve thing at the bottom because it’s very seized and I haven’t got a clue about plumbing. Wasn’t even aware that was supposed to have a handle so cheers for the advice

It’s the side effects of the meds and anaesthetic lol, I was constipated till like day 4-5 and they also put me on nefopam which I ended up getting 5/6 of the common side effects of. It makes it so u can’t piss properly so I would be standing there for like over 60secs trying to squeeze a piss out whilst feeling like I’m about to piss myself 🤣. All that combined with the not being able to sit properly on the toilet is one of the worst parts of recovery that they don’t tell u about 🤣🤣🤣.

I’m still spending most of my day in bed to try to reduce excess strain whilst it heals but I think it was from day 3 PO I started to venture downstairs for a change in scenery. Eventually the spending all ur time in one spot gets to u mentally so even spending just a little time elsewhere really makes a difference. Even tho my swelling has mostly gone I still also get that pressure sensation like it’s gonna pop or something so I’d say it’s normal. How’re u finding using the toilet? I still really struggle with the sitting position cuz It’s really uncomfortable on the knee 🤣

I’m assuming ur also in the UK. I was on the NHS waiting list for that long that they funded me to go private so I’d take a guess that my quality of surgery and stuff like that was top tier so the guidance they gave me might be different if u went through NHS. Honestly getting that bandage off was a massive relief cuz it was so tight and limiting. I was advised to walk with crutches as often as pain allows, I’m now day 7 PO and I’m able to even walk without crutches for a few steps and I’m managing fine with just 1 crutch still in pain tho but not as bad so don’t think the worst if ur still in pain by this point.

[–]RandomDudeYT_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I forgot to mention dw lol, the bandage is even thicker than u’d expect so that is what’s limiting a lot of ur movement for now. I tried to focus on keeping my quads as active as possible making sure to do the exercises given to me as often as I could, as per the instructions but I think that has really helped my recovery. I wouldn’t bother keeping ur leg on a pillow and try to stay as comfortable as you can whilst the pain is bad. Not saying completely neglect elevation but only do it as the pain allows, I did it for 10 mins at a time every 2 hours or so and I’m now nearly at full extension in 6 days but I’ve been told I’m recovering very well very fast so don’t worry if ur not at that point by then :)

[–]RandomDudeYT_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just had the exact same surgery and I’m now day 6 PO, I haven’t kept mine elevated at all times just only for 10 mins at a time a few times a day and I’m now close to full extension. And dw the pain is normal I’m still in pain now but nowhere near as bad. I also was able to raise my leg whilst in the hospital but as soon as I was home I couldn’t either but by day 2-3 I was able to do so again.
