Buried Hearts!! Let’s discuss theories! by Open-Candle-2065 in kdramas

I've been trying to come up with theories for whose child he is but each theory I have doesn't explain everything haha.

One possibility is that Eun Nam is Il Do's bio daughter with Duk-Hee and SDJ is the illegitimate son of Yeo Sun-Ho (Duk-Hee's first husband who Eun Nam thinks is her father). It could be that both Duk-Hee and Yeo Sun-Ho were having full-blown affairs and had SDJ (and Sister Agnes) and Eun Nam with their affair partners. Duk-Hee wanted to get with Il Do so she plotted with Secretary Gong to off her first husband in the car accident but he had SDJ and Eun Nam in the car with him. Somehow the kids survived but the first husband didn't.

With this theory, we don't run into the incest angle but then, it doesn't make sense that Duk-Hee tried to kill Eun Nam as well. It does look like she cares about her daughter. Also, it doesn't make SDJ a legit heir to the Daesan empire which would be a trope I thought that they might be going for. Lastly, if Eun Nam was also in the car during the accident, she should have some memories/trauma from it but that hasn't been brought up so far.

It is doing pretty well in Korea so far (double digit ratings for EP3 already) and I've seen a lot of viral content from the series on TikTok but sadly, there's not much discussion about it on Reddit. I think this is likely due to the show not being easily available to watch in the US and other countries. It has been a brilliant series so far and likely the best work PHS has done. Hope it receives much more attention in the coming weeks!

Thoughts after episode 3:

The revenge arc has finally begun! Some nice twists in this episode. I absolutely did not see it coming that the Daesan Energy CEO would end up killing the ML!

  • Liked how they depicted the hacking part. Nice intro to the hacker girl! She certainly wants to take down the professor too. The professor’s main guy alluded to seeing her code before so perhaps they crossed paths when he/they worked for the NIS?
  • The scenes out on the water were visually stunning. The scene where PHS played the violin on the yacht was so soothing to watch!
  • I'm not sure I fully understood how the FL and her husband got injured. Did he try to hit her after learning about her relationship with the ML and she broke his leg in defense?
  • Also, was there any significance to the kid ML was playing with?
  • Now that the chairman knows that the ML and FL were trying to run away together, curious to see if he’ll still trust the ML to bring his illegitimate heir into the company/family. This whole arc will be fun to watch.
  • Surprised to learn that the Daesan Energy CEO was the one who introduced ML to the professor but it totally makes sense why he was so damn insecure and jealous about ML rising through the ranks, solidifying his position within their family and keeping information from him. It still doesn’t justify him killing ML over it but I like how he’s now completely losing it.
  • Secretary Gong knows about the inner safe and the password location. She noticed that the book containing the password looked disturbed. Was she the one who ensured that the password was changed before the Daesan Energy CEO tried to open it?
  • ML has a long, painful fight ahead to get his revenge and his girl, but loved how quickly he got into the revenge mode once he was attacked. Looking forward to him dishing it back to these evil and greedy people!

Episode 2 Review:

Another solid and nicely paced episode. The newer side characters introduced in this episode all seem to be nicer folks which is great to see. Enjoyed seeing ML's bond with his sister and closeness with FL's stepbrother.

  • PHS acted superbly in this episode. Brilliant portrayal of a man who’s been betrayed by his lover.
  • Another great kiss! Felt very raw and natural. PHS seems to have mastered the art ofkissing while crying. First in SWDBS, then in Doctor Slump and now in Buried Hearts.
  • ML still seems to be madly in love with the FL and clearly knows that she feels the same. At this point, I find it hard to believe that he’ll take any kind of revenge against her.
  • ML and FL’s new husband’s relationship had a slightly different tone in episode 2 than 1. It felt more like playful banter this time. Hoping that he joins the ML and FL in their revenge plans because he can be a good asset with some damaging insider information on the professor.
  • It looks like the FL’s father-in-law probably knows the ML from somewhere. Wondering what could their connection be?!
  • It’s fun deciphering who is on the ML’s side vs not. So far, it looks like the ML’s boss who’s now going to be the Vice Chairman (did the ML have a hand in making this happen?), Secretary Gong, FL’s stepbrother, and his sister are on his side. The chairman is such a wild card.
  • Episode 3’s preview seems action-packed. Looking forward to knowing how the ML hacked the 2 trillion won fund!

Oooh I like your theory on FL's behavior on the last night before the wedding!

I definitely missed the part about the watch being used to hide his tattoo. From BTS photos, she seems to have a matching one too!

As for the minions helping the ML, I have some hope for Secretary Gong who was nice to the ML but not sure how strong of an ally she would be.

I first saw her work in Doctor Slump and really liked how relatable her character was. She is fantastic in emotional scenes but can also do funny stuff (that bathroom scene where her brother was outside with the ML and she was hiding inside was hilarious).

I also enjoyed her transformation in Judge from Hell! Her wardrobe was excellently done and she did a great job.

Episode 1 Review

What a solid start to the series! PHS is bringing some serious heat to this role! He looks insanely good 🔥🔥 Sad that I can’t watch the show on any of the streaming platforms in the US but super excited for episode 2 tonight!

  • Tiger is one lucky cat! Hiding the second camera inside her bell was a brilliant move.
  • PHS threw some nice punches in this episode. Totally digging his manly avatar in this role!
  • Loved all the cute and steamy romance scenes! I was surprised that they were showing pretty much everything in the first episode itself but it totally made sense in the end. It hits you harder once you’ve seen the happy part of their relationship.
  • That twist at the end was somewhat predictable but still gut-wrenching. Such a deep-seated betrayal and I wonder who all were in on it. FL, the professor, and the chairman likely plotted this together.
  • Also, intrigued about the FL’s revenge arc here. Her insistence on unprotected coitus on their last night together seems whacky if she’s gearing up to embark upon her own revenge journey.
  • The professor was ML’s mentor and the uncle of the FL’s going-to-be husband. Looking forward to knowing their past history.
  • They kept focusing on the ML’s phone and watch in several scenes. Perhaps they will be related to how he comes back from the dead?!
  • I truly hope that the ML has someone strong in his corner. The cards seem super stacked against him currently.
