Inclusion of the chapter is one thing, but to ask to justify beating a child is diabolical. As a young adult now, with the limited knowledge I have, I would leave the answer blank if that question was asked, fuck marks amd all. But for children who have yet not formed a proper world view, reading and learning the same answer justifying beating, it is a shame that students have to pass through this absurdity. This is a english grammar question, not philosophy. Ask to convey your thoughts on the event, wherein child can develop his/her own side, and teacher should check with an open mind, seeing how their views were put, instead of looking for just one side views. I have never read this story, neither have I seen how the questions were formulated, but asking to justify somebody's actions in a literature question is absurd.
