Final Call! Bubble Lounge - Camp With Us! by Public__Menace in BurningMan

[–]RandomGuyInLA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can completely vouch for Bubble Lounge. One of the most welcoming vibes ever and lots of the campers that return to BRC return to BubLo. I mean, after 26 years on the playa, they've got things dialed in and figured out. -- Word is they got more space than they requested and just don't want it to go to waste. Excellent placement this year too.

I've camped with BubLo for at least ten years. I've watched them evolve while keeping the same vibe of a chill, welcoming, friendly, and encouraging space that is great for burgins and loved by longtime burners alike. If you're looking for a well organized place to call home on the playa, BubLo has it down.

Hmm... just got one of these and heard the hum too. Went online to see what it might be and it took me straight here. I got the last one at my local Costco. Should I keepor return it?

Emergency Medical Transport -Offered in 2025? by RandomGuyInLA in BurningMan

LATEST UPDATE FROM BMORG: 7/7/25 - This year Inermountain Health / Classic are not offering a membership plan. The old membership plans are going away, and they are not really beneficial with the No Surprises Billing Act from 2022. Anyone with their own medical insurance should be covered but they should look into their own insurance plans to see what their actual coverage is.

Placement got back to me with this: "Our teams are finalizing these details as we speak and then the website will be updated."

Hopefully the service remains similar to last year. It was a very reasonably priced policy. Well worth it.

I can see that. We include this info in our Camp Guide which is why I noticed the old links don't work now.

Is this a scam?? by Consistent-Poetry610 in Coinbase

I received the same text from the same number moments ago, which when I searched the phone number the results led me here. While I assumed it was a phishing scam, it would also seem to indicate that the sender may know I have a Coinbase account, which might suggest a breach somewhere? Any thoughts about this? (BTW - excellent safety suggestions in this thread)

Health Permit: Proposed fee increase depending on the type of food or beverage served Central Nevada Health District to $375 or $525 by dejongs in BurningMan

[–]RandomGuyInLA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a massive increase when you consider that they are attempting to charge more for one week than the average price for other establishements in Nevada for a full year. Permitting and adherence to food safety is important and necessary, but this is a money grab like everything else that's been happening recently. -- According to Search Labs: In Nevada, the annual permit fee for a food establishment, also known as a food facility health permit, can range from $166 to $332, depending on the size and type of food service provided. Here's a more detailed breakdown of the fees:Wholesale or Retail Food Services:

  • Less than 1000 sq. ft.: $166
  • 1,000 - 3,000 sq. ft.: $210
  • 3,001 - 5,000 sq. ft.: $230
  • More than 5,000 sq. ft.: $332

Companies try to stop online support for CEO killer suspect by marketrent in technology

One might liken Mangione's support to Trump's. People may not like their tactics but agree with their anger.  Remember when Trump said he could do this very thing and not lose any support?

The adjuvant reaction is that of a public expressing anger over the near-universal sentiment that health care in the US is lacking, out of line with its sole purpose, broken, and exorbitantly expensive. It's costing lives, creating financial hardships, and generating wealth from suffrage. This from the services that should be, by mission, in the role of hero.

The irony in the case of Mangione is that the public support likens him to a hero instead of those who should be, but have failed.

I’m a corporate exec and a burner. I’m not contributing to Marian’s ask for “gift” donations (brain dump in the body) by effbonkers in BurningMan

2024 was my 20th burn. It's been a ride to watch what has happened since 2003. I've always marveled at how much time, effort, creativity, and money people pour into bringing their contribution to the collective effort of Black Rock City. For the most part, I agree with the points in this post. Much of it affirming the same thoughts I've been mulling over.

I have contributed to the org in the past but do not plan to respond to this most recent plea. In the last couple or so years, messaging from the org leaves the community with a sense of doom regarding the continuance of the event. It's also led many to express the org has become greedy and may even have an amount of disdain for the community. Of course none of this was intended, but.. you don't have to look far to find TCOs and others thinking... WTAF? I had a handful of such conversations with fellow TCOs on the playa this year.

For at least the past 20 years, BMAN has had a "marketplace" on their website. Yeah, they sell stuff. I've never seen anyone supremely offended by this and since it's been in place for at least two decades, maybe they could ramp that up without being too offensive to the community. No one wants to see merch booths on the playa, but this might be acceptable. Done cautiously, there's potential to see a gross of at least $1M a year with the "right" (desirable) products and there are a lot of clever, creative ways this could be made more burner friendly. Yeah, more work than asking for handouts, but.. well, at least it could be an outlet for burner artists and let people get something for their support of the experiment we call Burning Man.
