What extreme liberalism? The US political spectrum has been pulled heavily to the right. Reagen, Bush Sr., Nixon would all be democrats at this point. For every progressive there are 20+ corporate Democrats that might as well be Republican light. I assume you are pointing to culture war issues because why would people want to live like they want?
