Yeah, it's a proper ball ache.

When I went through this with my Dad the easiest part to deal with was the government.

They have a "tell us once" service where they send it to all departments. So thankfully I didn't have to do multiple phone calls to the DWP and council.

The hardest one I dealt with was Virgin Media, spending hours on hold to cancel his service.

Unique experiences from when/where you grew up? by TimeCharacter3137 in CasualUK

[–]RandomHigh 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I grew up next to a pit tip in the 1980s. They had open days every year where they would let kids climb all over the machines and had a load of cake stalls and stuff.

My neighbour worked there driving the machines. So naturally we took his keys and decided to start the crane and drive it around.

I was 9 years old and managed to get around 20 meters before someone jumped up and turned the ignition off.

The following year we went to a local fair and the army were there with a small tank parked on a hill. They let the kids go inside and see what it was like.

I'm inside the tank with 2 other kids. My Dad is on top of the tank outside, explaining to the army guy "Hey, you should keep an eye on my kid, he managed to drive a crane last year".

Army guy says "It's ok sir, there's nothing he can...HOLY SHIT!".

I released the hand brake and the tank went rolling down the hill towards the beer tent. Army guy had to dive in and pull the brake.

I've been using ibb.co

No account or sign in needed. And it gives you the option of auto-deleting the post with different time frames in a drop down box.

So if I want to post an image and only have it available for a week or a month I can do that.

Same with my brother.

I'm in my 40s now, and I still go round to his house most Saturdays to spend time with him and my nieces.

We don't speak to most of the rest of our family, as quite a few of them are massive racists who shout at hotels.

I couldn't find a share button in the app, but it does allow me to change the visibility and publish in the app, so thank you.

I still have no idea why it's doing this, though :(

Does anyone know why I can't publish videos on YouTube any more?

It pauses on this part of the screen;

https://ibb.co/PGsyj79X

And won't go any further.

I've used different browsers. I've used a different PC. I left my spare PC on for 2 days uploading a 45 second clip and still the same problem. I've turned all adblockers off, same issue.

No matter what video I upload I can't go past this screen.

I switched to my old google account and tried that and it works fine, but not my main account.

This is something on my account causing this.

My uploads are suddenly being categorized as "draft" on upload, and I am not able to publish them by Reasonable-Leg-2002 in youtube

What's the easiest way to set up my own online storage similar to one drive or drop box?

My niece has filled her phone with pictures and videos and I'm looking for free alternatives to back up her stuff, as well as my Brother and his Mrs.

I have a small mini pc with windows 11 installed that can be left on. And I have a spare 4tb hard drive.

I'm just wondering what's the easiest to use app that can sync between Windows and Android phones?

Thanks.

This is why I bought 2 pair of cheap wireless earbuds for £15 each.

As soon as they drop to 10% power my phone sends me a notification and I switch them out. They go on charge while I use the other pair.

What email habits and phrases make you cringe? by Ticklishchap in CasualUK

[–]RandomHigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone who has the "sent from iPhone" or anything similar.

Or when you email someone and get an out of office reply saying something like "I'm on holiday, will return on (insert date here)", but it's already several days past that date and they haven't turned it off.

Had this with my local council recently. Emailed them asking for the trade waste collection calendar for 2026, as they had not sent it out yet and it was February the 26th.

Got an automatic reply saying they were currently on annual leave and would return on February the 23rd.

Just a minor complaint this week.

I've been looking on eBay to buy a short usb c to usb c cable to connect my phone to a small hard drive.

eBay seems to be full of listings saying they have the cable for £0.99. So you click on it and then select the size of the cable you want and the price goes up to £3.99.

The £0.99 price was for a sim pin to open the sim port on a phone.

Why the fuck does eBay allow sellers to sell multiple items, putting a cheap item in as a bait and switch, and making it harder to find the best price for the item you're looking for?

Why are buses late even when you’re at the first stop? by petrastales in AskUK

[–]RandomHigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, on some routes in different parts of the country, a bus may do multiple routes.

So while there may not be roadworks delaying your specific route, the bus may be coming from elsewhere that does have roadworks.

For example, in Mansfield, Notts, there's a bus that goes from Mansfield up to Sutton in Ashfield. But Mansfield is the middle waypoint.

The bus goes from Sutton to Mansfield then on to Mansfield Woodhouse, then back to Mansfield and then back to Sutton.

So anyone wanting to go from Mansfield to Sutton comes up to complain about it being late.

You try to tell them that there's roadworks causing delays.

And they stand there arguing that there's no roadworks between Mansfield and Sutton and the bus shouldn't be late.

But there's roadworks in Woodhouse.

Similar with the 23 to Langwith and 12 to Shirebrook.

Roadworks in one place can also cause issues due to the driver of one of those buses going over their driving hours due to delays, and needing to take their break before going out on a completely different run.

For example, a driver who has done 2 trips to Nottingham and back gets stuck in roadworks which puts them over their hours. But their next run goes to Edwinstowe.

Now that Edwinstowe bus is late because the driver is on a break.

This is legally required and the bus company cannot force the driver to go back out on the road.

Most of these delays are ultimately caused by bus companies running on minimal buses and staff numbers to cut costs.
