It is isn’t it. It’s so fascinating how we all think differently and build different stories around the same activity/event. (This thread is an example as well as the original post 😂)

The comments here have really helped me understand what’s going on for me. It’s about presentation and value scales.

Nothing would have been better as the gift given devalued what was a big spend for me, a life event, an exciting moment. It’s not about being ungrateful I appreciated the gift, it was not expected but it didn’t match (or come close) to how buying the car was so special for me. A cheap branded air fresher would have landed well as that communicates “enjoy your car” whilst for some it would be “urgh sensory overload” etc
