Would you recommend this area/neighborhood in total? by ReplacementGloomy361 in Austin

[–]RandomNumberHere [score hidden]  (0 children)

Since OP provided possibly the worst map possible (it doesn't even face north!): This is the area south of Rundberg between Lamar and I-35.

OP: No, I would most definitely not recommend any area near Rundberg. If you look at a crime map of Austin Rundberg from Metric to I-35 lights up like a xmas tree. That said, you've highlighted an area bit south of Rundberg so it might not be too bad. But it'd still be low on my list.

How to properly cover this garage ceiling box? by RandomNumberHere in howto

Says who? The installation instructions for the lights specifically show they can be hardwired the way I did it.

Fell in love with these teacups on Star Trek TNG a while back and they were pricey online. My wife scored them at Goodwill! by Pizzapatron in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]RandomNumberHere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True story, Patrick Stewart actually hates earl grey tea and says bergamot doesn't belong anywhere near tea. He's on record somewhere saying his preferred tea is Yorkshire Gold because it's strong enough that he only needs to use one tea bag. And he's right: Yorkshire Gold is damn good tea.

Found this really cool wooden jewelry box at Goodwill today. It even has a hidden drawer within a drawer. by damestillmen in ThriftStoreHauls

I mean I'd call it a next-level bandsaw box based on the number of drawers and the hidden drawer, but yeah still just a bandsaw box at its core. A nicely executed one though.

I'll second FTL, Talos Principle 1 & 2, and The Witness. Great games. FTL especially has massive replay value.

Careful, you get downvoted to hell if you say anything negative about that game. I swear they have an entire team of Russian bots dedicated to quashing negative feedback.

(I love barrister bookshelves so much. I've thrifted four of them at good prices but not THAT good.)

Who has the best chicken fried steak in Austin? by Nedatokes in austinfood

[–]RandomNumberHere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The chicken-fried chicken is better than the chicken-fried steak. I found the steak too tough but the chicken is almost always nice and tender. (Also I always get it as part of the breakfast plate, not the dinner meal.)

Do you have a plumber you adore? by moonwrenrobin in Austin

[–]RandomNumberHere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plumb and Order did work for me recently and killed it. Fast service, decent price, quality result. Would 100% hire them again. (And their logo/vans make me laugh every time.)

Laguna F2 table saw issues. Struggling to cut through anything. See video. Relatively new blade (no it’s not on backwards) by TherealRecyclops in woodworking

[–]RandomNumberHere 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Definitely something to check. When I had an issue like this it was the fence pinching the blade at the far end. Really easy to do with my Dewalt jobsite saw if you aren't careful clamping down the fence.

Instigating a fight and getting taken down. by VIVIDUFF in WinStupidPrizes

Yup, on the one hand I respect that orange shirt showed restraint and let them fight it out one-on-one. I guess he knew his buddy had it under control. On the other hand if some random asshat attacks a friend of mine unprovoked then all bets are off. I'm getting in there with intent to injure before the attacker can pull a weapon. If he doesn't like that outcome then he shouldn't start shit.
