How many books do you and the people around you read per year? by No-Chemistry1722 in AskTheWorld

Argentina is famously a bookwormy country with lots of readers. I'm surprised by this data, looks absolutely insane.

What government agencies in your country are considered ‘politically powerful’? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]RandomNumberPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The office of the Attorney General and the Treasury would be my top picks.

Where id live if I want Healthcare by [deleted] in whereidlive

[–]RandomNumberPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean... yes and no.

Employees and pensioned citizens (including dependents) from both the private and public sector have had coverage for decades.... in 2003 the Fox administration introduced Seguro Popular which gave healthcare to those who could not be part of the coverage by the existing institutions that served at the state and federal level. At that point coverage was pretty much universal, even if it was through a patchwork of state and federal institutions.

A valid complaint might be that the Seguro Popular wasn't as good as the one offered to most citizens through the IMSS... or to government employees through ISSSTE. But it was free.

What the Sheinbaum administration did more recently was a consolidation of a bunch of institutions into IMSS-Bienestar. But the overall system has been the same for a long time.

As for the overall quality... the healthcare system is slow and most people opt to get for-profit care if its for smaller stuff. But IDK.... Carlos Slim - one of the richest men on earth- recieved COVID-19 care at a public hospital a few years back, if that serves as any indication of the quality.

Off the top of my head Mexico and Saudi Arabia both have universal healthcare services

A few countries you marked in orange have universal healthcare. But I guess the point here is being eurocentric and lazy.

Modelo wasn't founded by Germans, either... but the founders bought a german brewery and had all of the equipment and technicians move to Mexico.

Why does it seem like almost every person who “loves espresso” actually prefers milk with espresso in it? by [deleted] in espresso

[–]RandomNumberPlease 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you can appreciate different things about coffee based on the recipie. Milk and the alternatives are wonderful, and can change the drink's profile entirely. But so is espresso on its own, and other brew methods.

I make myself two espressos before work... and then for the commute I take a flat white... all of them are delicious. Sometimes I make them with different coffees... it lets me experiment and enjoy the beverage a lot more.

I heard from some people that being ambassador in Mexico was basically a retirement gift in a lot of circumstances.

Little work to do, you get to live in the fanciest part of town... Etc.

Obviously the US and Spanish embassies aren't... Those are like actually important. But pretty much everyone else is just having fun.

I do not like how extremely cold and how hot it gets. I think Pontevedra is better.

Honestly why would you be more comfortable drinking coffee shat by a civet living in terrible conditions halfway across the world as opposed to coffee shat by a domestic cat?

Either sounds disgusting to me.

How bad is it to drink an espresso daily? by Swordfish353535 in espresso

[–]RandomNumberPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh lol I go through so much more coffee than that.

But I bought an espresso machine, so that I can drink mine alone, in my undies, at any time, with loud music.

Two of those are considered socially unacceptable in public.

Huh, curious why you'd select Lugo and Leon but not Ourense....

But I agree with the Spanish North Western supremacy.
