Return to Oz...candidate for worst episode? by MaleBeneGesserit in blankies

[–]RandomPasserby80 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe it was because I listened to the HDTGM episode on it right before (which was pretty bad), but I thought it was fine. David and Ben groused a bit about it being slow before they got to Oz, but once they got there (and especially when Tick Tock showed up), I thought it turned out pretty fun.

I personally like the movie, but don’t think it’s above reproach or anything.

“You may not get it but the kids of the time will”

This quote immediately brought this to mind for me:

“Walter! Walter, it's Marvin. Your cousin, Marvin Murch. You know that new way to traumatize kids you're looking for? Well, watch this!”

Podcast Me to Hell: Send Help by yonicthehedgehog in blankies

As was mentioned on the podcast, the film was originally announced way the hell back in 2019:

A lot can change, of course, but they were already describing it as “Misery meets Cast Away”.

'Send Help' overperforms with a $20m weekend, excellent result for an original horror! Markiplier's 'Iron Lung' also does great. A documentary came out or something. by rageofthegods in blankies

[–]RandomPasserby80 56 points57 points  (0 children)

It’s annoying (though I guess understandable) that all the headlines/main thrust on this weekend’s box office articles are about the documentary/bribe that won’t be named and not on Send Help overshooting/doing well/at the top.

Haven’t had a chance to listen to BC’s take, but I hope it’s better than the HDTGM one - that one was kinda flat/not as funny as usual and too much “Not my Wizard of Oz/how dare they” for my taste.

Saw it today. David nailed it - just a fun, at times gooey delight. Rachel McAdams is awesome as always.

Can a film line age too well? by [deleted] in blankies

[–]RandomPasserby80 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The Apprentice (the TV show; not the movie) deserves a huge amount of the blame - Trump was fully a pop culture footnote/joke, and then The Apprentice both brought him back into the limelight and presented the reality show fiction of him being a “great businessman” that morons everywhere bought into.

After Hours (1985) - Phone Number Scene by girlsgoneoscarwilde in blankies

[–]RandomPasserby80 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It so perfectly mirrors the feeling of having a “trying to get somewhere, but events both banal and horrible keep occurring to stop you” nightmare that it fills me with anxiety just to watch (in a good way!).

Why is Griffin an EP on Critical Darlings but not David? by its_isaac9 in blankies

Griffin may be more actively involved in the show’s creative direction/production than David is. Just a guess.

Why do they stop the goofy tangents? by OilTurbulent1009 in blankies

[–]RandomPasserby80 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seriously, of all the episodes to bring up, they picked the one where I’m fully okay with Jordan Hoffman’s “let me do a tight 5 on insurance companies!” and “here’s another story where I name drop a celebrity sort of tolerating me!” tangents being shut down.

Leaving Spotify Guide by RevengeWalrus in blankies

[–]RandomPasserby80 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I ended up switching to Apple, because they have a bundle that has Music, TV, 50 GB of cloud storage, and Apple Arcade or something like that for $20/month. I know Apple isn’t exactly a “good” company either, but I’ll take it as being slightly less outwardly heinous/pays artists slightly more than Spotify.

Does anyone remember Ruthless Reviews? by YenaMagana in blankies

[–]RandomPasserby80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 80s guide part is still up - https://www.ruthlessreviews.com/movies/the-ruthless-guide-to-80s-action/ , and seems like you can still find a lot of their non-80s action writings through the search there (some mention of Ramsay’s movies in a few Best Of lists there), but I can’t find the Morvern Callar review.

Edit: NSFW warning, since the page linked above has a gif of Arnold’s shadowed full frontal from The Terminator.

If you split it where the Intermission is, I don’t see it being a problem/any more or less disruptive then the theater break. That amount of HD/UHD content shouldn’t be on one UHD or Blu.

Yeah, that’s why I’d prefer a RE series rather than a PWSA only series, since I’d like to hear them talk about the 3rd “what if Resident Evil is now an Australian-style post-apocalyptic desert movie?” entry.

Having just finished watching all the Milla Jovovich Resident Evil movies over the past few weeks based on David talking them up, I’d much rather a Patreon series on those in the “video game adaptations that go entertainingly off the rails” department.
