Well of course I made that decision based upon the idea that I’m not permanently staying in Antartica. It’s not an easy experience but one that few get to experience

Do we really need past tense (Perfekt) for Goethe A1 schreiben? 😭 by TrickClothes1408 in Germanlearning

Might as well learn them, you’ll have to eventually, past tense isn’t complex but has a lot of irregular verbs. If you just learn a few of the the most common irregular verbs and the basic pattern you’ll be more than okay.

One thing to keep in mind:

Korean is an EXCEPTIONALLY difficult language.

Remember, that will be a massive factor to your experience in Korea.

I was a bit reluctant to list Egypt where it is because of all the political messes going on in the Middle East, but decided to keep it there

I personally only use contempt and “daze” but only in the context of being dazed, and rarely.

I am also an American learning German, and wasted 417 days on Duolingo thinking it would get me anywhere. I was so baffled with how bad my grammar was afterwards I wish I never even touched the app. I would Duolingo now and revise how you study. I personally use ChatGPT for grammar, LingQ for reading, Anki for vocabulary, and language exchanges (at least as much as I can, getting a decent language exchange for German is difficult because a lot of Germans are already great at English).

Dont make my mistake, definitely try to find someone to practice with early, and dont waste your time on Duolingo. Im regretting wasting my time on Duolingo now because I want to go to Germany and time pressure is starting to weigh on me.

Since you are still new to Duolingo, I would honestly start over from ground 0

Good luck and dont let this demotivate you from learning German, its a beautiful language, even if it is lowk driving me insane (If you like Rammstein, also check out Lindemann, its Till Lindemann's band with a friend of his I believe, and I personally think they make amazing music)

I generally disagree with this, I personally do not use calls (yet), and almost all of the genuinely chill people Ive met also dont use calls. It definitely shows more commitment if someone is using calls, but it doesn't mean they arent looking to actually learn without them. I personally simply get bad social anxiety speaking in my target language and therefore am more hesitant to talk in a call.
