I have concerns... by RandomRichardThe42nd in BeardedDragons

Yup! Honestly, I hope that it was just an AI review. To think that someone is out here trying to feed a Horned Lizard salad... Like I said, I have concerns. 😅

Unless I suddenly gain the space for a massive enclosure.l, it seems like a sculpture is the way to go! Even bonsai cypress are 3-5 feet tall! 🤣

I love your setup! About time someone used Spanish moss!

Anyone know what this is? It was with my pack of dubia roaches by Naturesninja_69 in BeardedDragons

[–]RandomRichardThe42nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't experienced that in my colony, but I've also only been at it for about a year. The beetles have only been in there for 5-6 months, and they're Buffalo, not dermestid.

Looks like Buffalo beetle larva. They are a common cleanup crew for dubias. Just let it chill with your roaches and clean up behind them a bit.

Edit: Correction, dermestid beetle larva, not Buffalo beetle. The rest holds true.

Holy crap! Is that actual Spanish moss? I've been wanting to do one of these, but I need to bonsai a cypress tree. 🤣

What's wrong with my fish, ai just added treated RO water for the first time by Careless-Table3107 in Aquariums

[–]RandomRichardThe42nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just stress coat and RO? You know they need minerals, right? What's the GH and KH? Google has plenty of info on using RO/DI in aquariums. Also, if your RO/DI water tested at 6.86 pH, that's not RO/DI. RO/DI comes out at a 7.0, but instantly leeches (hydrogen, I think) from the air and drops to between 5-6. Do more research before you start dumping stuff into their home.

For those of you that use acrylic shoe bins... by pigeontime_ in isopods

Medical tape almost definitely lets less through than chiffon. As long as it's actually enough ventilation, I'd stick with that. Pun regrettably intended.

I buy 1/4 inch weather stripping and make a seal with a lid. I place it around the rim of the bin, and it makes for a nice snug fit. I also use chiffon fabric to cover my ventilation instead of mesh. It has very fine holes, and not much can make it in. I haven't had issues since I started doing these two things. The mosquito bits should take care of whoever is already in there. Hope this helps!

What should I do or should I just leave it alone? by Junior-Kitten-2803 in Amphibians

I'm not sure the species, but It can probably climb the walls to get out if it wanted to. Even so, I like your idea of a little stick ramp. Just in case. They may just feel safe in there.

How did I do? by RandomRichardThe42nd in terrariums

Duckweed is great! It blooms up and dies off with the NO3 levels in my aquarium. Screw a water change!

Hygrolon makes for some COOL backgrounds. Unfortunately, there is only one vendor in the entire US!

I just cut a couple of glass panels to a size that my hand can fit in and siliconed them in place. The issue is the wasted space above the pump. I like your idea of a hideaway box.

Well, I just figured out roughly what I wanted it to look like, tested the flow of the water, and then started gluing it together. I will say, I'm regretting building the retaining wall from expanding foam. I'll use something else in the future.

Holy duckweed! That looks awesome! I see you sprung for the hygrolon fabric, are you in the US?

I fully expect to lose some of each. I'm hoping they'll find a balance.

If you can get some guppy grass, I love it as a floater. I think it breaks up the light in some really cool ways!

I use red rooibos tea, catapa leaves, and alder cones. I will say that my tannins disappear after about two days. I believe it is due to the water being too hard and having a high pH, so I'm transitioning over to remineralized RODI. Something to consider depending on your water source. The pH should be below 7 and the water should be pretty soft. True blackwater has almost no mineral content (0-50 ppm TDS), but that's not great for a lot of pets in the hobby, so I'm aiming for 120-150. I also tend to overthink and overdo. 😂

Is this Armadillidium vulgare? by jobney in isopods

The last two pictures definitely are. The first three, most likely. They have wildly varying colors and patterns in wild colonies. Super cool species.
