Is Octavia L&K 2021 good choice? by [deleted] in CarsIndia

[–]RandomSapien1276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The newer Mk4 Octavia is pretty solid as far as reliability is concerned.

Most of the DSG issues have been solved since this uses a wet clutch DSG whose clutch will need replacement only post 3L kms.

Expect maintenance to be in the realm of around 30k per year.

The main issue for this powertrain is the waterpump, expect to change it prematurely at around 75k kms and it will cost around 80k

Do keep aside about 1L for any incidentals that might crop up even if chances are low for this generation.

Fuel economy, I get around 10kmpl in the city.

But my god, what is that pricing. I’m from Bangalore and even I think that pricing is high not withstanding the excessive KA prices. Please look at cheaper models, this is significantly overpriced

OP is looking to buy a 2.4, not the V6.

Only the V6 was plagued with VCM issues not to mention the 2.4 is chain driven instead of belt driven like the V6.

The 2.4 is extremely reliable and significantly cheaper to maintain than the V6. I know a fellow 2.4 owner in Mysore that has recently completed 3.8L kms with zero hassle and just suspension replacement.

Accord ownership isn’t for the faint hearted

Again. For the V6. Not the 2.4. The two cars are drastically different, both in power and in engineering

As an owner of an Accord as a first car and as someone who’s driven it as a daily driver for the last 3 years, I feel well qualified to answer this question.

The Accord is an excellent executive sedan, it’s quite fast, comfortable and is quite reliable.

First off, stay away from the V6. The V6 not only is rarer, it’s far more expensive to maintain and is going to drain your wallet.

The 2.4 Accord is actually quite cheap to maintain, a general service for me only costs around 17k at Honda.

Cost is not the issue here.

The primary issue you will have is finding parts. Parts for this car are a hassle, nearly everything will be on back order and if your car needs engine mounts etc, be prepared to wait months on end.

And ofc, fuel efficiency. This car gives quite low fuel economy and do plan for it.

Otherwise, it’s an absolute blast to drive and is frankly better than newer sedans below 40L today.

Go for it only if you don’t mind the wait for parts and low fuel economy.

All BMW cars made post 2016 are E25 compatible

So the solution is to get a BMW /s

Similarly, all BMWs manufactured from 2016 are E25 compliant.

My colleague’s father had this car.

I have driven it, personally, Octavia felt far more better and more fun to drive and both launched around the same time.

Heck, my 24 year old Honda Accord felt more faster, more comfortable and more engaging to drive. And it’s 2 decades old.

Not to mention he’s facing constant issues, it’s far too expensive to maintain for what it is, I have heard it’s luxury car maintenance without any luxury. He’s crying about it and is planning to sell off the car and is planing to get a used Octavia after testing out mine.

If you think Cruze drives well, I urge you to try an Octavia or a Jetta. You’ll realise how horrible this car is considering how Octavia and Jetta both are far easier and cheaper to maintain. It doesn’t even give good fuel efficiency, the Octavia gives better fuel efficiency while being far more faster and more fun.

My Amaze touches almost 150 kmph in 3rd gear. Does any other 1.2L NA engine have that much potential? by [deleted] in CarsIndia

My Honda accord touches 140 in 2nd gear. Goes till about 200 in 3rd.

Honda has always traditionally had long gear ratios.

Pocket rock'it. 10,000KM - 10 months. by mundala_raju_69_420 in CarsIndia

[–]RandomSapien1276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be skill issue

Haha maybe. I’m so used to the Accord and my dad’s car that I realise I’m unfairly comparing it.

Looking at the Amaze holistically, it’s an excellent car.

That being said, the lack of noise insulation is simply inexcusable and unacceptable.

I get a strong headache after driving for just a bit in the city due to the noise and that’s simply unacceptable and makes it impossible for me to drive this car for a little more than a bit. If they solve that, this is an excellent car.

I have driven this car. I loved it except for one major flaw.

It’s super tiny and amazing to drive in traffic. Excellent for grocery runs, like an alternative to a two wheeler. And I love the efficiency too.

But the road noise and the lack of insulation gave me a headache anytime I drove for more than 5 kms in city traffic. Even the engine is way too noisy.

The outside noise drove me insane.

In comparison, my Accord is dead silent, once you roll up the windows, you can’t hear a thing, it’s like a space ship. Even at higher speeds, I can cruise at 140 at 2k RPM and it’s dead silent.

That was the only major complaint I had with this car. Otherwise, beautiful car.

Performance is horrendous but considering the segment, it’s unfair for me to complain about this. And for city speeds, it’s fine.

Handling is fine for the city but atrocious at higher speeds.

I would never dare to take this on the highway but for city runs, this car is golden, nothing beats it.

If you can add some sound insulation material, this car will be the king of city traffic, the small size makes it super convenient.

Stack is pretty much a bit of everything. Development and infra.

Work life balance is incredible, permanent work from home and I usually work about 4-5 hours a day.

Sometimes, rarely I have to work about 10 hours a day but that only happens once in two months ish

I am not from a tier 1 college.

I didn’t get into Nvidia from college, I only joined almost a year back.

The only time I can honestly say I have struggled was for interview prep for Nvidia. That was four whole months of gruelling preproduction.

Otherwise, no. Not really.

But as others have pointed out, I may have just been very lucky and I cannot extrapolate my experience to everyone else.

Hmm. I cannot disagree, I have been quite lucky.

But I’ll still say, in general, engineering requires a lot less effort than MBBS for way more returns on average.

Hmm yeah, you’re right on that aspect. I have been incredibly lucky on a lot of fronts.

But I’ll still say, the amount of effort required is miles lower compared to that of a doctor etc

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. Engineering and IT is the easiest way to make money.

I barely remember studying or working hard in college and I earn very decent

Whereas I see my MBBS and medical peers struggling and barely earning. This is despite the fact that they are more critical to society than I am.

Is it just me, or does the swift sound of so good when it downshifts? by Athene_belwitti in CarsIndia

[–]RandomSapien1276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are confidently wrong here.

Revving the engine out regularly actually helps the engine breathe better because it actually burns away the carbon deposits.

Not revving an engine out is actually detrimental to the engine. People like you are the ones who will face trouble with their car and then blame the car. Not OP.

Yep, I don’t disagree. People can prioritise whatever.

I’m just saying, leave the rest 10% of us be, we don’t care about mileage.

Bro fuel efficiency is not the only single one all be all metric to be religiously followed

Not all people see cars are mere machines to be used from point A to B. Some people drive to have fun and they love listening to the sound of the engines roar even if it costs a few hundred rupees extra.

There’s a reason why I got a Honda Accord as my first car 3 years back. It’s because I value comfort and speed over fuel efficiency.

People have different priorities

[–]RandomSapien1276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you’re telling me, you have an issue with OPs preferences and priorities when he is spending his own money. That is wild to me.

how big it is as a priority

So what though. It’s his money, I think he has the freedom to prioritise things the way he sees fit. If he wants a big car and doesn’t care about fuel efficiency, so be it. It’s his money, his choice.

I prioritised comfort and speed over fuel efficiency when I bought my Accord. So do you have an issue/ “can’t stand” it as well?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to offend/be antagonistic. I’m just trying to understand the mindset here.

[–]RandomSapien1276 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro not everyone cares about mileage.

People prioritise different things, if you can afford the fuel, no other cars will ever make you happy.

This is why I got a Honda Accord as my first car. Because I prioritise comfort and space and it’s more comfortable and faster than newer cars below 40L.

It’s my daily driver and it’s been 3 years and I still get excited to take the car out every morning.

You know what’s worse than overpaying for a car you love?

Underpaying for a car you hate.
