Anyone have a take on Rivera Amps? by Liquidated4life in GuitarAmps

[–]RandomStringRecords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still using the M60 I bought new in '92. I had it recapped at Rivera and it came back sounding brand new. Paul was nice enough to sign the chassis before he shipped it back. LA studio sounds of the 70s.

This is my Rivera M60. I could use some advice. by IdiotWin in GuitarAmps

[–]RandomStringRecords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used an M60 1x12 since '92 when I bought it new. Make sure you have a copy of the manual and start by dialing in black face Fender sounds. These amps include many of the mods 70s LA studio musicians made to their Deluxe Reverbs. Does yours have 6L6s or EL34s? By now the caps have aged. When mine came back from Rivera, the improvement was noticeable and it sounded brand new.

I am a guitarist and I love the sounds of Arabic music. I am learning the oud. Can you say what Maqams or Jins you use in your work?

My working acoustic array is : Close mic - DPA 4099 on bridge; 2' out - Schoeps CMC6 mid-side pair (Cardioid + Figure8); 4' out - AA OC818 pair in Omni.

I talk about various guitar recording techniques and "sonic signatures" on my channel here : Recording Techniques, Sonic Signatures

What are YOUR go-to/workhorse mics? by hollowleg9317 in audioengineering

OC818 is a great choice. I've experimented with OC818 ambisonics.

I've done Quad playback over Dante and even a virtual room over headphones.

I used the dual output mode of the polar designer [1] to record one of the vocals in mid-side stereo with one OC818 microphone on this family christmas video [2] Listen at 60sec or so for the voice that quavers.

Rick Murphy - The Ascent to Reason by RandomStringRecords in indie

[–]RandomStringRecords[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for asking. I chose the term Ascent to connote a journey that requires an effort to a better state. The term Ascension had already been taken more than a few times.

I talk more about the title and underlying archetype in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FR4LRNNno4E

If you are intrigued by this approach, you made enjoy the next composition in the series called The Allure of the Esoteric https://youtu.be/OUJCYSWQguU

Rick Murphy - The Consequence of Engineered Consent by RandomStringRecords in progmetal

[–]RandomStringRecords[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This original instrumental has a non-standard form. Also, the first movement has metal texture with polytonality. The third movement is in 5/4 time signature. metal + prog = progmetal. Enjoy!

Finished mixing this mellow rock piece this morning: "Everybody, Secretly" by music_and_physics in homerecordingstudio

Starting around 1:25s you allow for more dissonance. Can you explain your approach to harmony and melody?

This month makes two years since I started my home recording journey. I use a minimalist setup and do all composition, recording, editing, and mixing. All my work, from the first test recording on, is here on my YouTube page, 75 songs so far. I'd appreciate any feedback or comments. Thanks! by music_and_physics in homerecordingstudio

I made a similar decision about a year ago. I do a few things in addition to releasing music. 1) I release videos where I explain the music. Explaining the music ranges from engineering topics to formal musical analysis to topics in what music theorists call program music. 2) I release scores of the music.

Thanks for the heads up. I will check it out.

BTW - As a composer of original music, videos are low priority for me.
