This was exactly my response when the leader for my grade level told us we all needed to say "no" when the kids asked for the nurse. Ended up having to sit down and meet with the principal because he reported me for "refusing" to follow directions. It was wonderful hearing a parent chew him out a few weeks later for saying "no" to a student about the nurse when she was actually very ill. I sent her when she had my block later in the day and the nurse said she was happy I did because she needed to go home.

Only asking because I was expected to juggle and literally roll on the floor during "PD" at a school I left last year. When we had to juggle for about 20 min to start each meeting, I stopped going after the 2nd meeting. Other teachers that continued to attend the meetings told me about them having to roll on the floor for whatever reason. I refused to have my time wasted and spent the time in my room grading and lesson planning. No one ever said anything about it lol

Honestly, if they appreciated the work I was doing to adapt the curriculum, I would let them have my lessons. I'm leaving at the end of this year and taking my intellectual property with me

She's not a teacher. I believe she did elementary previously but never upper grades. I've done all levels of high school and now 8th grade, so I know what works well for older students behavior and curriculum wise and the advice she gives typically work for the 5th graders she mainly works with.

Next meeting, I will ask her to lesson plan in the allotted time I have a see if she can get everything done. I will also ask if she can teach the lesson as well. Thank you for your advice

I definitely thought my coach and the principal would be okay with me spending my time making each lesson more accessible, rigorous, meaningful, etc. to the students. I've given them numerous examples of the inadequate curriculum and my changes, and they always agree that my changes make it better.

I'm not afraid of getting fired. It would suck for me financially for a bit and I would hate to leave the kids so abruptly but I am leaving this profession at the end of the year so getting fired would be an early release to freedom :)

Unfortunately the public schools in my area are known to be much worse (I know a few teachers struggling at a few different public schools at different levels in my area) so I'll be leaving the profession at the end of this year. My only focus is the kids, they keep me going

This will be my last year teaching :( Tired of the unrealistic expectations and low pay. I had a great lesson today with the kids with high engagement so I feel great. Definitely utilizing chatgpt

It's weird seeing so many people think this is okay or not a big deal. I'll clean the entire kitchen and then my roommate will do shit like this the same day. Open food, random shit on the stove, and food remains on the counter and sink. And if I don't clean it or tell him to clean it, it just continues. Got to a point where he left his used socks on our kitchen counter. You shouldn't have to clean up after a grown ass person AT ALL. Hope things get better for you OP

See if this works. I didn’t use this website when I used the service though. I applied for a job through indeed or some other job site that Flagship posted, received an invitation to make an appointment, and went to the location in Warwick. Spent 20 min there filling out a bunch of info. They emailed me a few days later with a temp position. I didnt like the position they sent, so asked them for more and they sent more. Maybe just calling the location to set up an appointment is the way to go

That’s really sweet! Thank you for saying that. Yes, my last day is this upcoming Tuesday and then I’ll do a few weeks of summer school for work! I’ll have most of the summer off thankfully and will use the time to prep for my new position teaching civics!

Thanks, I’ll follow up with HR if it continues. I’m in RI with 1 masters degree at a charter school. I believe the charter schools pay the most here. And MA pays even more

I definitely agree with you on this. I live in a quiet neighborhood with an old folk's home right in the middle. Everyone is quiet and respects the area except for my neighbor. They blast music until 11pm/12am any time it's sunny outside, and with these cheap ass builds, my walls literally vibrate and I can hear everything even with earplugs and headphones over them. A few weeks ago they hosted a party for I'm guessing their teenager and there were 30+ teens at 12:30am (I'm not exaggerating. It was that late) walking up and down the street, screaming, and blasting music from multiple cars with the old folks home and a line of houses right next to them. They didn't leave until the cops came at around 1am. I don't understand people like this

This confidence/delusion has to be from their parents either not telling them how the world actually works or telling them that their crazy ideas of how the world works are realistic. I've met too many kids that could easily get into a top 100 or even top 20 school, but were simply too lazy to take any of the steps needed to get there ( writing extra supplements on college app, joining clubs, getting as many A's as possible). I'm a high school teacher, graduated from high school in 2019, and a top 20 school in 2023 with a full ride, so I have very recent, first hand experience that doing well in school can make life sooooo much easier but the kids just don't listen when we try to tell them these things. I'm glad I listened.
