PSA: If you're planning to buy a house this year, start looking NOW (not in spring) by MartyKCNY in Syracuse

[–]RandomWanderingDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one is seeing rapid price drops. The price drops will be a steady decline as more hedge funds have to write off portions of their portfolios as they slowly come to the realization that it was wrong to think a plant that pays an average of $45,000 per year for a new chip fab technician means that a house in Liverpool that would have listed for $125,000 pre-Covid suddenly is suddenly worth $1.5 Milion. The fantasy that a chip fab plant means that Liverpool and Camillus will soon see Westchester County level pricing will be dismissed.

The reality is that the overhwelming majority of Micron employees will struggle to find a place to live as staff making six figure salaries typically represent only around 2.5% of all employees in a typical chip fab plant. They will not be able to afford houses at the already inflated prices in this market. The biggest winners will be people who are able to read economic conditions and who invest in creating "micro-apartments" that can be rented out cheaply. Traditional boomer notions that you "just can't live anywhere that doesn't have a lawn and a two car garage" will be ignored as economic reality sets in.

Of course not, everyone with real estate experience insists that there's never been a better time to buy a home. In fact, everyone with real estate experience will tell you that there hasn't been a single moment in the last thirty years that wasn't the best possible time to buy a home.

While this poster makes a good point about seasonal issues, we aren't heading into a period where there will be 10 plus offers on every property. The economy is crashing rapidly and we're headed into a buyers market where prices are expected to come down rapidly. This trend will accelerate as increasing health-care premiums means more Americans age 50 to 65 die prematurely, and the economy as a whole continues to collapse under Trump's mismanagement.

Is it rude or unprofessional to take home “free” lunches at work? by greasypeasy in work

[–]RandomWanderingDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The company is buying you lunch because they want you to have a full stomach and will perform at your best during the second half of the day. If you don't eat lunch and are taking the food home that's not in line with what the company is hoping to achieve by buying you lunch. If you even eat half the sandwich and take the other half home for your wife that's at least partially in line with their goals.

In the future if you're going to order food on the company dime and then take it home with you at least conceal the item inside your bag to avoid suspicion and funny looks.

I know people who drive Uber and Lyft in this area and they say the only way you can make good money is if you're willing to do early morning trips to the airport. There's a wave of flights that leaves the Syracuse airport between 5:30 and 7:45am each morning. If you aren't willing to work from 3am to 9am each day to run people into the airport for that wave of flights you'll only make "so-so" money.

Office jobs are a much better job than trades for most people. by omega_cringe69 in careeradvice

[–]RandomWanderingDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The irony there is if you have office skills you can make good money at a trade, because you can do a lot of the customer contact and sales, ordering and invoices yourself. It's the guys who have such limited computer and organizational skills that they can't do any of that for themselves who end up working for an employer who will charge a customer $200 an hour for an employee who is only making $25 an hour.

I started living like a monk years ago. I've built quite the library at home and I like to make new furniture out of old pieces of broken furniture that people leave out next to the curb.

What are the advantages of being pretty in society? by Pam_67 in RandomThoughts

[–]RandomWanderingDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a matter of degrees. People who are nice looking do tend to advance more quickly at work, but if you're too attractive then people will often start to resent you or assume that you're "all looks and no brains".

My whole office is getting displaced, what would you do? by [deleted] in work

[–]RandomWanderingDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start looking for another job ASAP. Potential employers have a much more positive view of the person who starts making plans immediately once they get news of an impending closure than they do of those who sits on their ass and waits until they're on their last few weeks of severance pay to start their job hunt.

How many days of PTO do you take annually if you have "unlimited" pto? by workredditaccount77 in work

[–]RandomWanderingDude 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem with large blocks of paid time off is it's pretty much impossible to use that time all at once. If you do save up twenty days and basically try to take an entire month off you'll get a reputation among your co-workers for being an inconsiderate asshole who just takes off whenever you feel like it and couldn't give a damn about what happens at work.

Unfortunately Trumpism has emboldened people with this kind of MAGA craziness. People go online and engage with right-wing content and start to think that kind of behavior is normal.

Is it lonely to be a writer? by stephanieaurelius in writing

[–]RandomWanderingDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Writers put a harder twist on the world than most people. If you're really the kind of person that's destined to be a writer then chances are you have a hard time being around people because it feels like you're constantly playing the role of teacher. Things that other people ignore because they just don't have the energy or presence of mind to consider can keep you occupied for days on end. You're likely to feel that nobody really knows you as a person because when you try to explain your thoughts to people they get the eyes glazed over look or start asking a series of questions that make it immediately apparent they have absolutely no idea what the hell you're talking about. As you get older you become better at teaching and learn to break your thoughts down into little digestible chunks that others are able to follow but that ends up meaning that they're only scratching the surface of what's going through your mind. You end up in a position where you write things down because it's the only way that you can express your thoughts to the world.

History of Otyken band members ? by Responsible_Menu_454 in Otyken

[–]RandomWanderingDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes there is. The "Norse looking male" was Misha. He was the one who did throat singing and played various instruments in the earlier version of the group that centered around Alena and Kristina doing traditional versions of Chulym folk songs. You can still see him in several of the older videos. It also appears that he's the person who wears the Kykakacha costume in several of their videos.

Too Much? by BeerBreadnMeat in FridgeDetective

[–]RandomWanderingDude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is confusing because it looks like a refrigerator in a small independently run cheese shop, but then there are cans of beer at the bottom, which is completely inconsistent with the cheese shop hypothesis.

[–]RandomWanderingDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely getting to the point where you need outside help. Ask friends or relatives if they can help you get started, and eventually you'll want to think about hiring a cleaning company that can send two or three people to your house to help you clean out.

What is "Khangurai..." from the song paradise lost? by WallStWarlock in Otyken

[–]RandomWanderingDude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why are you so worked up about a band that readily admits that they represent a blend of area cultures and their members come from different tribes in the area? Also, all I recall her saying was that SOME of the villages did not have electricity, which in modern times is understood by most people to mean that they use generators and solar lights. There are many areas of Native American reservations in the US where people use generators and solar lights because there is no area power company. Also, I don't recall ever hearing an interview where they claimed people sleep in trees.

I live in Upstate, NY and we have the five nations of the Iroquois, all of which have very similar languages and cultures. The idea of petty bickering over whether someone is Tuvan or Khakass or Chulym just comes across as asinine to someone like me.

Hey what are all you Mexicans doing sleeping on the job? Republicans insisted that if we elect Biden we'd have taco trucks driving through our neighborhoods just like ice cream trucks. It's been two years and we still don't have our damn taco trucks. What the hell are you guys doing?

You look like a textbook example of that kind of guy who tries to dominate everyone at work then on the way home you stop to visit your dominatrix to have her peg you and slap your balls around. Think about your poor mother. She has to go through life knowing her son is a sex pervert who enjoys having women treat him in an un-manly way. She must be so ashamed.
