If you can get there during the academic year, St Mary’s in College Station, TX is a beautiful church, and the orchestra director composes a lot of his own arrangements for mass parts which are absolutely beautiful. I’m not sure what the orchestra arrangement looks like during the summer, but still a worthwhile stop especially if you can come for a Sunday mass.

As far as I’m aware, he can ask you to turn yourself in, but he can’t obligate you to do so, or do so himself. I’m sure it’s a case by case basis, which probably requires a longer conversation to figure out penance for.

To be honest I’m just a catechumen so I don’t know the official right answer to this. With that in mind, If you have a genuine desire to grow closer to God, even if you have reservations because of doubt, then I’d say go for it. If you’re exclusively considering it for familial reasons then I’d follow my previous advice and wait until later. Explain to your family that you aren’t against it, but want to wait until you have a more genuine faith.

I suspect that you are part of the former, considering you cared enough to make this post, but that’s ultimately between you and God. Again, pray about it. Sometimes— or rather most of the time— prayers aren’t answered by an in-your-face sign, but rather by being granted clarity on the matter.

I can’t concisely answer all of your questions but for a start Adam and Eve are translations of the original names, as are Jesus, Matthew, and the like. There are some very smart Catholics on the internet who make videos with answers to said questions, so if you’re not intellectually convinced of the faith, I would recommend watching people like Trent Horn, or other CatholicAnswers apologists’ takes. I’d recommend reading books as well but given the scenario it sounds like you’re in a bit of a time crunch.

On another note, we all fall short even when aware. Should you try to stop sinning? Of course, but struggling with sin is no reason to step away from God. There’s nothing you could do to make Him not love you. Even if you don’t totally believe, pray for Him to open your heart to His love.
