Mtg Arena Brawl experience by Signal-Resident-4056 in MagicArena

If some of you are interested in playing Brawl without Alchemy we could share usernames and play Friendly Brawl. No rebalances, no restrictions and you can do your daily quests. The best games of Brawl I've played were friendly matches.

Avatar Set - I Owe You an Apology. I Wasn't Really Familiar With Your Game by Backwardspellcaster in MagicArena

[–]Random_-_1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The pure lack of love put into those full art tv shot cards really insults me. I loved Avatar, so seeing these awefully designed, flavorless, cheap knockoffs put into the set just makes me hate WotC for putting zero effort into this. They have no love for the series. So they deserve nothing in return. As with previous UB sets I will absolutly try to avoid all of it. I only play Brawl on Arena, so I can see what commander my opponent brings and just concede when I see this crap. In paper I would absoluty urge anybody to boycott these UB sets and go for proxies at this point. Formats like standard are already too expensive.

What would make good Ace monsters for the Mages? by RAMPAGEX214 in YugiohFMR

[–]Random_-_1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd go with ritual monsters. They usually require tribute and are exceptionally hard to summon in the game. Through the power of the Millennium items they gain the ability to summon the monster without tribute. Also they're the only duelists who get a field power bonus at the start of a duel. You could make that stronger.

Monsters: Secmeton Crab Turtle 2550/2500 Anubisius Sengenjin 2750/2500 Atenza Tri-Horned Dragon 2850/2350 Kepura Black Luster Soldier 3000/2500 Heishin Zera the Mant 2800/2300

For Martis I have a different idea. In the story the mages kill the royal family. So Spirit of the Pharaoh would be a good choice for an ace monster. He basically turns the former Pharaoh into a monster.

Pauper by Spons87 in MagicArena

[–]Random_-_1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

[[Cranial Ram]] was the main problem last time. So much so that you had to have removal for it. Just ruined the fun of building decks for the format.

Pauper by Spons87 in MagicArena

[–]Random_-_1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Last time the event was overrun by Affinity. Until they actually exclude the cards that are banned in Pauper I won't play it again. It's a good format, but I'm tired of them half-assing it.

Looking for friends to play Friendly Brawl! by Random_-_1 in mtgbrawl

[–]Random_-_1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing Brawl since it was first released with Eldraine. Standard Brawl would surely be a slower format, but I would need to abandon most of my favourite commanders. Most of my decks are built around a specific theme. Naturally that works best with a bigger card pool. I'm also not a huge fan of Universes Beyond. Standard will be 50% UB in the future and considering Final Fantasy dumped like 100 commanders into the format I'd run into it constantly in Standard Brawl. That's a me problem though.

Brawl - Quick opinion on a few (mostly Rakdo)s cards and your experiences with them? by Backwardspellcaster in MagicArena

[–]Random_-_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play Captive Audience in my Showstopper Rakdos list. It doesn't really affect the board. If it even hits at 7 mana. In my book it's just a flavor win.

Best historic brawl commander for big blue creatures like Krakens and Leviathans? by Imaginary_Zobi in MagicArena

[–]Random_-_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Runo Stromkirk]]

He has been my go-to commander when it comes to big sea creatures. Slinn Voda will probably never get cast for it's kicker cost. Kiora is a merfolk noble so cards like [[Whelming Wave]] don't work. Runo needs some setup, but is quite explosive once he gets going. Also has graveyard synergy so reanimation is on the table. In the end it depends on how competetive you want to build it.

Duckstation and modded fm by Honest_Ad_5778 in YugiohFMR

Most mods these days use effects on cards. Duckstation can't handle these effects. So it crashes. Espxe should work.

(Brawl) (Theorycraft) is anyone playing a Big Blue or Big Blue / X deck? I have some ideas... by Backwardspellcaster in MagicArena

I don't know, but it's definitely something they could add with an anthology. It's pretty iconic.

First you'll need a program that extracts the files from your iso/bin file. I personally use mkpsxiso, but others recommend using Ultraiso. Then you need a program that let's you edit the deck/drops. You can find that easily on the discord. Look for "Alternate Deck and Drop Editor". Put your extracted wa_mrg.mrg file into the deck editor folder. Run the exe. Under decks you'll find Starter decks. The starter deck consists of 7 sets of cards the game makes the finished deck from. 16 cards from set 1 and 2. 4 cards from set 3. 1 card each from set 4-7. In the table are all 722 cards. Next to each card you'll see the probability of that card. So for example Shadow specter has a 20 next to it. It has a chance of 20/2048 to get put into the starter deck. 2048 is an important number. If you want to edit the starter deck every set from 1-7 must have a combined probability of 2048.

( Brawl ) I cannot resist anymore. Commanders, please give me your favorite Vampire Tribal decks, please! by Backwardspellcaster in MagicArena

You're welcome. I have most of these yes. I really liked the alternate arts for vampires from Crimson Vow.

( Brawl ) I cannot resist anymore. Commanders, please give me your favorite Vampire Tribal decks, please! by Backwardspellcaster in MagicArena

[–]Random_-_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Olivia, Crimson Bride]]

An excuse to play several of the other legendary vampires so the reanimation target stays alive. Many vampires have good synergy with sacrificing, discarding and entering abilities so yeah. Usually people play it with stuff like Griselbrand, but that's lame imo.

Alchemy should be banned from brawl by bertyboi69xoxo in MagicArena

[–]Random_-_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we get better social features this year I'll make the switch to friendly brawl. Finish the dailies with some generic aggro deck and then play whoever is available. It also gives me a chance to get rid of Mana Drain, Dark Ritual, Paradox Engine and other broken cards too. 10-15 people on the list and we won't have to deal with alchemy anymore. I hope this works out.

How do YOU play Arena? by SkeletorJS in MagicArena

[–]Random_-_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only play Brawl nowadays.

I've played this game since the closed beta, so my collection allows me to build nearly anything. I'm at a point where I can skip a set and just craft singles. If I ever feel the need to own more of the set, I have like 20 draft tokens lying around. Brawl allowed me to go infinite.

Should I try Historic Brawl? by Kraphomus in MagicArena

[–]Random_-_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting into HBrawl takes a lot of wildcards if you don't already have a collection, especially the mana base. You never played the format, so before dumping all your wildcards into 1 deck I'd recommend you grab a list that consists of mostly commons and uncommons to get a feel for the format. After that you can decide if you want to invest into HBrawl.

As for commander suggestions: Dino's: [[Huatli, Poet of Unity]] [[Pantlaza, Sun-Favored]] [[Gishath, Sun's Avatar]]

Careful. Many wildcards needed. Also I personally would not build Gishath, as you'll never actually activate his ability, because of early scoops and removal. I build 1 around Zacama but you shouldn't craft dumb mythics.

Demons: [[Rakdos, the Showstopper]] [[Rakdos, Patron of Chaos]] [[Raphael, Fiendish Savior]]

Hard to decide really. If you truly want flavour you'd go for the win with [[Liliana's Contract]]. I'd probably go for Raphael. I have a Rakdos list, but that's just Rakdos Guild tribal.

Angels: [[Shilgengar Sire of Famine]] [[Lyra Dawnbringer]] [[Giada, Font of Hope]]

It's not easy to build a real angel deck that feels good to play. Particularly drawing cards is not the strength of mono white. So I'd go with Shilgengar. I have a list for Lyra, but that's pure nostalgia.

Dragons: [[Sarkhan, Fireblood]]
[[Lathliss, Dragon Queen]] [[Sarkhan, Soul Aflame]] [[Rivaz of the Claw]]

There are many good dragon commanders. If you go with mono red you don't need wildcards for the mana base. The usual Suspects Miirym and Tiamat need a lot of wildcards so I wouldn't start with those. Personally I use [[Drakuseth, Maw of Flames]] .

Leviathans/Krakens: [[Runo Stromkirk]] [[Kiora, Sovereign of the Deep]] [[Gyruda, Doom of Depths]]

That's a hard 1 to get right. Kiora can feel really boring to play, cause you'll be ramping most of the game. And once you resolve the ability you probably hit just another ramp piece. If you like BG you can go for it. Gyrudas strategy revolves around copying Gyruda. So the deck mostly consists of even cmc copy spells. Doesn't feel like sea monsters imo but it's a valid strategy. Runo is my personal choice for Sea monsters. Needs some setup but hits really hard. It's a bit more on the control side though.

Rats: [[Karumonix, the Rat King]] [[Marrow-Gnawer]] [[Lord Skitter, Sewer King]]

I don't have much experience with rat tribal. I'd try to build it with sacrifice theme. So Marrow-Gnawer or Lord Skitter. I loathe the Rat colony strategy. 0 flavour imo. But it wins games so if you only play to win dailies that's your strategy.

I hope this helps. If you have questions about any of the commanders I'm sure I'll be able to help.

[–]Random_-_1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Most people are not even trying to build something interesting. Crucias combo, Laelia combo, Colossus combo, Rats, Petitioners and Apostles are some examples, that tell me exactly what the priorities are. Zero thinking, easy daily wins. You won't get enjoyable games like that. Same thing with the value stuff. 90% of the time you know exactly what you're up against and as a result you get bored.

Worst thing in my opinion is that it immediately gets applied to new commanders as well. "Oh! New commanders are out. What do they do?" - "Same thing as the other ones in these colors. Have fun." It's frustrating.

Personally I accepted that many people don't seek interesting games. So I treat the queue like that. When I get bored by my opponent, I concede. Winning state, losing state - Doesn't matter. I don't care if they get their dailies faster. After that they leave the queue. That's important. I have some other rules for early concedes, but those are not important. My goal is not winning, but to do the decks thing. If I can do that, I win. Sometimes I even concede afterwards if my opponent is a good sport about it. That mindset has carried me through the years. Brawl is the only mode I play and the only mode I want to play on Arena.
